It is a 28 day program based on sachets of powdered shakes that are mixed with cold water. Shakes come in two flavors – chocolate or vanilla berry.
Nutrition and Ingredients
The biggest criticism facing Nutrisystem in recent years is the nutritional quality of their foods.
Each shake has the following values:
Carbohydrate 19g (incl 7g sugars)
Vegan Protein Blend (Pea Protein Isolate and Concentrate, Rice Protein), Superfoods and Greens Blend, Fat Blend (Sunflower oil, Coconut oil), Cane Sugar, Fiber Blend (Chicory Inulin, Oat Fiber), Natural Flavors, Beet Color, Gum Blend (Guar Gum, Cellulose Gum, Xanthan Gum, Carrageenan), Organic Steviol Glycosides, Citric Acid, Malic Acid, Bacillus coagulans and Monk Fruit.
The superfoods blend contains a considerable list of items including Kale and Goji berry.
As far as shakes go, there are a lot of good ingredients – such as probiotics, stevia extract (to aid sweetening).
However carrageenan is a thickener commonly found in many non-dairy milks (such as Almond Milk), and some companies are beginning to phase it out – there is some question over how well it is digested by some people.
As with other Nutrisystem products, it can be challenging to nail down the exact pricing.
Shake360 costs $79.99 for 28 individual packets.
Initial orders also come with a 3 day “fresh start” kit. This is a kit that includes 6 organic teas, 3 granola servings, a shaker bottle, and some recipe books.
Be aware of: Auto-delivery. This is a great feature – order once, and they will send you the next batch of product at the start of the next month. However – if (and when) you cancel there may be a cancellation fee. There is a money back guarantee (if cancelled within the first week) – but you will have to pay for your shipping costs.
Powdered shakes are great for mixing and blending, and the product does come with recipe booklets.
1 packet Vanilla Berry
1 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk
1 cup ice
1 medium banana
Blend until smooth.
Shake360 is not the only shake-based health product on the market. The most obvious competitor is Shakeology from Beachbody.
|Price||$80 per 28 serves||$130 per 24 Serves*|
|Extras||Fresh start kit||–|
*Shakeology also offer a 30-serve bulk bag for the same price (you will need to get your measurements exact when mixing).
**Shake360 has been tested as gluten-free.
NOTE: Shakeology do have a cheaper 3 Day refresh product which may suit some.
Shake360: The Verdict
Some customers do not like the “gritty” texture of the shakes. This would imply it’s better to mix the shakes as you would a protein powder – as an ingredient in a smoothie.
Shake360 is a shake-based health solution for the cost-conscious. It is significantly more affordable than Shakeology, and has far more natural ingredients than other diet shakes (such as Medifast).
Arguments about taste are very subjective. Go buy an expensive superior raw protein powder (without sweetener) – you will find it tastes like cardboard. Sometimes we can’t have it both ways – a product to satisfy our sweet-obsessed taste buds while ticking all the healthy boxes.
