Never in my life i thought i would become overweight. All the late night snacks and bad eating habit are now coming back to haunt me.
Here I am, a 24 year old girl who hasn't accomplish anything in my life. No degree, no job, no confidence and no friends. Actually all of this would have never become a problem until my father suddenly collapsed on the floor with his hand held tight to his chest last month.
He's doing better now, thank god, but his collapse made me realized one thing. If my father's gone, my family would have no one to rely on. No one would take care of them and watch over for them. It is time for me to grow up and be responsible for my life because if I can take care of myself then I can take care of my family.
This project is one of the first steps that I'm gonna take to improve myself and to build up my confidence. Hopefully this is one step closer to breaking out of that social bubble.
Body make over project
- Length: 16 weeks or 112 days
- Start date: 11/13/2009
- Goal: 110 lbs
- Average weight lost a week: 3 lbs
- Starting weight: 156.5 lbs
Any encouragement or tips would be appreciated.

You can do this! I was wondering if you want to be weight loss buddies? I am about 152-154 lbs and want to get to 127 lbs. It would be really helpful for the both of us to have support!
ReplyUnrealistic goals.
A safe, healthy rate of weight loss is generally reckoned at 0.5-2 pounds a week.
If you don't care about being healthy, a faster way to lose weight would be to cut off a limb or 2.
ReplyIt's awesome that you've decided to pull yourself out of a rut. But it's a common mistake to think of weight loss as a fix for what's really bugging you about your life. I know you said weight loss is just one step, but make sure you aren't using it as an excuse: "I'll make new friends/apply to schools/etc after I lose weight." What else are you doing *now* to pull yourself out of the rut? What are you doing to get a job, or to start being more social?
I ask because what you're proposing (45 lbs in 4 months) is a crash diet, which will probably just make you too tired and miserable to do anything in the social/professional realm. Turning your life 180 isn't easy even with all your energy stores, why make it harder? But taking *real* care of your body can give you more energy to achieve your other goals. Try to start with small healthful goals: biking instead of driving when possible, trying to get 4-5 servings of fruits/vegetables, planning a weekly walk/jog with a buddy or taking up a sport you've been curious about. If you practice real maintainable habits that actually make you feel good, without even concentrating on the weight loss, your weight will return to its normal range in good time. And you'll have enough physical and mental energy to concentrate on the real challenges.
ReplyWhile I think your reasons for wanting to lose weight are good, I think you're setting yourself up for failure with unrealistic goals.
3lbs a week for someone who only weighs 156 lbs is totally unrealistic unless you're planning to starve yourself and shed a whole bunch of lean mass along with fat. A healthy and safe rate of loss is about 1% of your bodyweight per week - so for you about 1.5lbs per week would be reasonable.
You should work on eating healthy foods in healthy amounts and getting at least 30 mins of exercise every day.
ReplyWow! Congrats on that decision. It is a monumental one.
MY TIP: make a daily plan for your activity and eating. I wake up at 5 a.m. to exercise (I've been sick for the last 10 days so no 5 a.m. workouts) and know that morning whether I will be getting on the treadmill or doing a DVD. As far as eating, I pack my lunch. Daily! It is important to pack my breakfast, snacks and lunch, which reduces the excess calorie consumption from eating out.
Making exercise and eating right a part of your day makes you change your mindset from "diet" to "life choice".
ReplyGood luck getting healthier and gaining confidence! It's great that you're going to eat healthfully and exercise. Just keep doing those things and don't worry too much about pounds lost per week or time limits. :)
