Would You Pay $160,000 for a Box of Chocolates?

Cocoa Mountain, a tiny, remote chocolate factory in Scotland, has just one box of chocolates left for Christmas. And, they're asking £100,000 ($160,000) for it.
They're offering free delivery, though, to anywhere in the world!
Boxes of chocolates made by the company normally cost a little less at just £20. But, Cocoa Mountain has handmade over 100,000 truffles this season, and have just enough ingredients left for one last box.
Paul Maden, co-owner of the company, said:
We have plenty of very rich customers who may just fancy the novelty of owning our last truffles of Christmas. ... But we will not be making any more for any less. We've had enough for this year.
It's a publicity stunt, yes, but also a reminder that in a world context of recession, food shortages and obesity, some foods (and alcohols) retail for a staggering amount of money, like the world's most expensive Easter Egg.
What's the most you've ever paid for a box of chocolates? How much would you pay for a really special collection?

On the plus side health-wise, I doubt that whoever buys that box of chocolates will actually eat them.

ReplyI am not a chocolate fan so I am not spending $ on that for myself. For chocolate lovers, I can find some good stuff that does not break the bank. If I had that much money to buy chocolate, I would be giving to the charities I want to give to AND I would be in Hawaii or somewhere less crazy than where I am in southern CA. :-)
I'd rather just donate money to charity since I don't think I'd appreciate the chocolate enough to pay that much for it. I wonder if anyone will actually buy it, but I wouldn't count on them actually selling it.
Reply...they better give me super powers for $16Grand
ReplyYou mean $160 grand ...
ReplyMy friend bought a box of chocolates for his mom that are handmade right in front of you. They cost a little more than he expected - $80 CDN. He was a bit shocked when it rang up. I don't think I'd ever pay that much for chocolate. I like salty things better :)
ReplyI loooove chocolate, but rarely eat actual chocolates (they don't fit my eating plan). Oh, but they can definitely mail this last box of truffles to me (no charge of course) if no one buys them, lol!
