Weight Loss Site That Abuses Dieters

When the touchy-feely, hand-holding approach to motivation doesn't work, maybe some e-berating will do the trick. At least, that's what weightnags.com is hoping. The site that:
Inspires its users through a mixture of personal abuse and insults.
Here's how it works:
Give us your info and we'll nag you once a week until you get off of your fat ass and lose some weight... enter your email address, Chubbles.
Once you sign up, they send you periodic insults, and other "motivating" rhetoric to inspire you towards your weight loss goals. Upon sign-up, you are greeted with the following;
Congrats, Cupcake. At least you've come this far. Get ready to be held to that crummy little commitment to yourself. Why Are You Still Sitting There? Go. Is your tummy jiggling a bit? I bet your pants feel a little tight. Did you work out today?
And, if you're looking for a little extra nagging (and really, who isn't?), you can subscribe for text-abuse at the rate of $4.95 per month.
Owner and creator of weightnags, Talmadge Boyd says:
If you haven't heard, people spend billions of dollars to look prettier, feel younger and lose weight... all people really need is to be nagged.
Could this actually work?
The site has a farcical nature to it, but perhaps this is right on the button for some?
Although I can see the humor in it, my guess is that many would not subject themselves to it. I really don't know if people would shell out monthly for it. If they would, then I have to re-think my business plan!
And, while the abuse aspect of it may not be appealing, there is something to be said for timely reminders to get up and move, or inspirational quotes.
Do you think this idea will take off? Do you think it would work for you?
Incidentally, if anybody out there wants to pay me $5 a month, I will gladly call you up and launch insults at you : ) Or, you could visit the Monty Python Abuse Clinic.

FJ, are you behind this??? :-)
ReplyHaha... no but I have no doubts that I'm their inspiration.
Too bad for their bleached out pink bordered site that I already do this. But hey... if it means less fatties in this world. All the power to em.
ReplySince when has abuse been a motivator? This is sad and the owner should be ashamed. All I can see this kind of nagging doing is making someone feel bad about themselves. People need encouragement, sometimes friendly, sometimes tougher, but positive all around.
ReplyWell, shows like Gillian McKeith are hugely popular, and she is not exactly kind. And she still gets plenty candidates...
Replynot all site that offering a diet food or pill is bad. Actually there is some factors that the product will might not effect if they do not follow the instruction.
ReplyIt might help some people. If you ask me, there are way too many weight-loss programs that are too easy on people that don't follow the program...stuff like, "Oh, that's ok, you didn't lose weight because you were stressed out, you'll do better next week" or "You ate a whole pizza because you were CRAVING it; it's ok to have a treat now and then". Please; you know you didn't follow the plan and that's why you didn't lose weight. Maybe it will motivate people that like to BS their way around other weight loss plans...I'd be interested in seeing how successful this plan is.
ReplyEverybody is motivated differently. Some people may find this effective and good luck to them. I agree Jody, this reminds me of FJ's style. :)
ReplyThere is a site that gives you free daily nags that are useful and not insulting. www.DietNag.com
ReplyPfft... what's the fun in that?!
ReplyHahaha this is awesome. I would love to work for this site... I can come up with some good "motivational quotes"
