Berry Juice May Stop Artery Hardening
Running around on those wheels all day can't be easy for a hamster. I bet some have heart attacks and drop dead right on the spot.
Luckily, pumping tiny hamsters full of raspberries keeps their little tickers healthy.
A new study suggests antioxidants in berry juices and teas may prevent artery hardening, a major precursor to heart disease.
For the research, published in the journal Food Chemistry, scientists fed hamsters a high-fat diet and raspberry, bilberry, or strawberry juices from a popular drink company, or green and black teas.
Results showed berry juices and teas halted fatty deposits in the heart, leading experts to say consuming polyphenol-rich (an antioxidant) berry juices and tea may have implications for public health.
I think it's simpler than that. Berries are good for your health. But, you don't need to a special juice to get them, just eat some--what do you think?

ReplyI just eat a variety of berries & enjoy them fresh or frozen/defrosted. Sometimes these studies drive me crazy although I know many of them are important for long term health finds.
I'm not a big juice person, actually. I prefer whole berries. I eat a lot of berries...lately it's been blackberries from my in-laws' farm that I froze about a month ago. They're so good, I'd eat them even if they didn't help my arteries.
ReplyNot sure about the study, but love the berries!
ReplyBerries are considered to be one of the super food because of its richness in antioxidants that can be very beneficial to one's health. I read that it would be best to eat them raw in order to fully optimize the health benefits. They're not only delicious, they're also packed w/ lots of nutrients.
ReplyYes, raspberries contain polyphenols. Polyphenols are the things that give fruits and vegetables their varied colors. They're also powerful antioxidants that play an important part in lowering inflammation. To date thousands of polyphenols have been discovered. Silent inflammation hides in the body, sort of flying under the radar for many years before it shows itself in ways such as cancer, arthritis, Alzheimer’s and other inflammatory based diseases. Eating foods that contain a wide variety polyphenols is an important part of the Zone, a diet and lifestyle the lowers silent inflammation.
