Diet Coke Plus Faces FDA Warning

The Coca-Cola Company has recently come under fire by the Food and Drug Administration for its reluctance to disclose exactly what the "Plus" in Diet Coke Plus really means.
For starters, the FDA isn't exactly thrilled with the concept of fortifying an unhealthy snack drink. Couple that with the fact that the amount of vitamins and minerals added to Diet Coke Plus remains somewhat vague, and it becomes clear why the FDA deemed it appropriate to step in.
Of course, the folks at Coke felt quite differently about the whole situation. In an interview with Reuters, company spokesman Scott Williamson stated, "This does not involve any health or safety issues, and we believe the label on Diet Coke Plus complies with FDA's policies and regulations." With respect to what the FDA considers to be somewhat ambiguous labeling, Williamson asserted that Coca-Cola has marketed Diet Coke Plus as "a good source of vitamins B3, B6, and B12, and the minerals zinc and magnesium."
The proverbial ball is now in Coca-Cola's court, and they face the possibility of fines and even product seizures if they do not comply.

I think this would prove out to be a negative point for the company. These should take out urgent step to clear out the guilt put on them.
ReplyThe FDA is a joke, what a waste of time.
ReplyAccording to me this would prove out to be a negative point for the company. These should take out urgent step to clear out the guilt put on them.
ReplyHAHA...
"Diet Coke Plus as "a good source of vitamins B3, B6, and B12, and the minerals zinc and magnesium."
...and a good source of DEATH. This is hilarious.

Well it's not just diet coke that's guilty here, what about all those energy drinks - the ones that give you wings and do all sorts of miraculous things?
Replya very good point!
ReplyHow is Diet Coke Plus any different than the myriad of sugar-free "vitamin-enriched" waters out there? Like Gatorade Propel and those diet green teas you can buy? Just because a beverage is labeled Diet Coke shouldn't make it automatically more unhealthy than any other diet, vitamin enhanced beverage.
ReplyI completely agree with you! I am constantly watching my fiance buy "healthy" low calorie "vitamin waters" and "sports drinks" and no matter what I say, he insists that they are good for him and provide health benefits... Those are generally just as bad as diet sodas!
ReplyActually you are correct that sports drinks have just as much sugar in them as a soda. However the vitamins added can be absorbed. In soda the added vitamins are depleted by the carbonation.
ReplyThat's pretty interesting. I've never been a fan of diet coke, but I know some people who practically live on it. I would probably try it, but I think the FDA is right, how can any kind of soft drink be considered healthy? (Even if it is healthier than a regular coke)
ReplyJust an added comment about diet cola's they are not diet. I disgusted this with my doctor.
ReplyApparently if you combine diet cola with your body chemistry it turns into embombing fluid. I stopped drinking diet cola (Diet Coke) and lost 40 lbs without changing eating habits. 'Amagine that'
When I asked a drink company Rep about it he didn't deny it. So just what is in these drinks?
Of course look how cigarette companies embelished cigarettes for years.
FDA is full of it.
ReplyThis is sick. Big Corporations have been deceiving the public for the past decade simply to protect or enhance their profits.
Check this out. To get the same amount of potassium in one banana you'd have to drink almost 2 gallons of gatorade.
I bet you'd have to drink about 3 gallons of Coke Plus-- plus you'll have all those calories and phosphoric acid and other chemicals to deal with.
Coke Plus is a deceptive marketing ploy and I hope they get exposed.
