Chelsea Clinton's Weight Loss Patch

by J. Foster

Investigators in China are looking the marketing tactics of a company making weight loss patches. This comes at a time when food safety scares are beginning to affect Chinese exports.

The sellers of the weight loss patch claim that Chelsea Clinton "lost 12 kg (26.5 lb) in under a month":

Customers are instructed to stick the patch to the area of the body where they want to lose weight and then just wait for the fat to flow out of them (China Daily)

The "Clinton" claim is a complete fallacy - much like all diet patches. The US FTC is constantly prosecuting distributors of patches.

The sad thing is, it doesn't stop people from buying them. The Chinese patch has had sales of US$26.32 million in the few months that it has been advertised in China.

I am 100 punds overweight - I've tried so many different diets, etc... and I too, am looking for the miracle - but there is no miracle. Weight less is going to come from self control, hard work and effort. There has to be more output in the energy department than input into the mouth. When will we ever learn? An external sticky pad to melt internal fat? How very sad.

Growing up in an old world Italian family, everything revolved around food. I was always eating, and as a result I always had a weight problem. Then two years ago I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. I was 27, 106 lbs overweight and scared. So I took classes to learn about diabetes and learned how to eat. I averaged 2.5 lbs weight loss per week for months. The last 10 lbs were stubborn, but a year later I was at my goal. I should add that even though I was advised to exercise, I never did. I lost all that weight without exercising. Not smart, I know, so last year I joined a gym. I haven't lost any more weight, but I have a well toned body now.

For what it's worth, I'd advise anyone who wants to lose weight, and keep it off, to check out how diabetics are advised to eat.

Thanks for posting your success story, Isabella! Tanti auguri! By going to a gym, you might find yourself gaining weight, but good weight.

If you have access to the New York Times web site, this is an insightful article on Chinese product safety. It's amazing how poorly developed consumer safety and consumer rights are there - there was a warning out to be careful in purchasing a particular kind of dumpling steamed in leaves, because some vendors were keeping the leaves green by soaking them in antifreeze x_x. It was making the press, and people were being careful, but there seemed to be no real sense of outrage.

Nicely done Isabella. I had the same experience although I never quite got as bad as having diabetes. Congratulations on your weight loss and on getting back in shape.

60 in 3, Type 1 diabetes has no relation to weight.

Ha, watch this get pulled for recall because it contains lye or something that just eats away your flesh where you put the patch. That'll sure make you lose some weight, lol.

As a mother of two I jog to keep the weight off but still enjoy snacking. I eat the Orval Reddenbacher popcorn (one cup w/spray butter) For my chocolate fix I buy SFree Chocolite bars at Roys Natural Foods in Dallas or their site healthsmartfoods.

This is so terrible how there is so much false advertising. This also ruins marketing potential for legitimate businesses with honest messages!
