My gawd. 10th grade, back in oohhh... 1976 or so, I belonged to some sort of a fitness for women establishment that had these type of "exercise equipment" along with roller doo-hicky's that you leaned against and I guess massaged the fat out of you.
If it were only that easy...
These days it's magic fat loss pills that do the trick!
The old "roller machines" with the rolling dowels worked to some degree by providing a vigorous massage to the skin (surface) and getting the circulation going to the top. The machine works to dramatically decrease cellulite. This is accomplished by getting the skin to tingle.
I have one and use it occasionally. I still think it's a hoot and it makes my butt and thighs non-cottage-cheesy. hah!
Purched about 1983 the SEARS old "roller machines" with the rolling hardwood dowels in looks good & in good working condition. If interested contact: "all4truth2003@yahoo.com"
I was also wondering where a person could get one of these old roller machines. I used to used one years ago at my apartment gym. Believe it or not, it really worked and got rid of most of my cellulite. I can not even find a picture of one on the web or the correct name of it.
My grandma had one of those! And I guess she passed being a sucker on to my mom, cause my mom used to go to one of those "passive exercise" centers (the machines move you against your will), and now she has one of those "as seen on tv" gadgets that will shock your muscles. She things that counts as exercise.
That is hilarious! I so remember those women being jiggled so! We still search for the perfect gadget. Now they take the form of knives and lasers and such.
I must have led a recluse life I don't remember those exercise outfits or really seeing the belts other than pictures, somewhere. I guess neither I nor other family members were into fitness at that time. I love the weight rooms, recumbent machines, and definitely "Curves" for women. I think any kind of exercise machine is always a better route than any kind of pills. As I get older, I can use all of the help I can get to keep this big old body moving and keep up the stamina. Thanks My-dietblog for all of your stimulating subjects and questions. This is the best, lots of fun.
Jim, you are weird and wacky and your diet-blog often jars the mind (That is a compliment). I remember them but was lean enough to not try one. BTW, can you give a purchase link or do you think someone reading you blog will offer one on e Bay?
I have a working "Walton" vibrating belt for weight loss. I think we'll sell it if there is interest. A co-worker and I were about to send it for scrap metal, but plugged it in first. Can you imagine a couple of rugged dudes in the shop shaking and giggling like school girls? I can't find links for more information, but it seems they are hard to find....on the internet anyway.
Hi there,
Do you have the belt for this machine? My mom has the machine by sears, my dad never could convince her to sell it, hehe. Anyway she wants the belt because her old one broke. Thanks, Cindy
I have one of those machines... I found it at an estate sale and bought it. Now it sits in my living room gathering dust. It runs great and I'm willing to let it go for a price to anyone interested. Contact me at theknights05@gmail.com
I can remember my aunt standing in that machine letting it jiggle her big fat bottom while she sucked down a chocolate shake! Now there's a video!
I also remember the "passive" gym. I actually joined one in 1977 hoping to lose the "baby" weight. I think they eventually got sued in a class action suit.
Pam, it is ridiculous. I drove my mom once and the lady tried to convince me to stop lifting weights and do the passive exercise instead, cause I'd look better since weights make you "manly".
Curves is great. If it weren't for them, I never would have begun this weight loss journey. I will always have a place in my heart for them because without them I'd still be clinically obese and weighing far more than the 206 I topped out at.
if you want to lose weight just don't eat alot of stuff. hunger most of the time is boredom, find something to do to keep yourself occupied so you won't reach for those munchies... eat more fiber, this low carb stuff is a load of shit, you need fiber to lose weight and clean the junk out of your body... low fat high fiber diets
yeah, i remember... i went to a gym 20 years ago and they had one in the ladies locker room. I asked my husband if they had one in the mens locker room and he said no. he seemed a bit disappointed like he was missing out on something fabulous.
My mom and I had a membership to a ladies only "health club" in the 70's called Elaine Powers - they had those belt machines and the other ones that move your arms and legs. I don't remember now what I thought I was doing standing there with that thing jiggling my bottom and making my skin burn!
Belt massagers are still around, there's even a few companies making them over in Asia. My ex-wife had a lot of those passive type machines from when she had a ladies figure salon (much like the ones described above). She had some really nice belts, the rollers that could raise or lower depending on where the user wanted to put them, the mechanical powered bikes, a few of the motorized split bed machines where your legs went around in circles, a couple of machines that rocked back and forth over the butt and hips with these plated rollers, and other machines. She looked forever for a machine she had seen before in a movie and photos where the user stood on a platform and a bunch of rollers went up and down the body really fast. She never found it. Unfortunately, we never did get much for these machines when we sold them. Someday they might be worth a buck.
Can you provide me with the names of the Chinese makers of these machines. They help to get the lymph system moving in your body , thus removing toxic waste built up ( cellulite) to protect the vital organs. Plugged lymphs causes obesity and very poor health. This vibrating movement gets the 43 litres of lymph system fluid moving again to expel the toxins and as a result you get slimmer and toned as the so called fatty deposits ( really plugged toxins)begin to move and are diplaced via the lung system and, if you drink enough water, the urinary tract too. They are highly beneficial. Please send me any info you have on current manufactureres of this product. I am only interested in the ones with the belt that goes around the buttocks and thighs. Lorrie
Did you find out where they sold the oldtime vibrating belts? I want to purchase one. I used one years ago, and it was the only way I could knock inches and cellulite off my thighs.
Yes, I went to Elaine Powers Figure Salon in mid 70's at 19 yrs old. don't know what era the photo is in.They used the belts, a fat roller machine, the stretcher machine, a few resistance weights, butterfly machine and then you did so many floor exercises, and did no more than 25 reps of anything. I met a guy in TX that was married to Elaine Powers daughter. I would like to have one of the roller machines...anyone out there have one?
I really enjoyed the salon, nothing fancy, just do your own workout devised just for you. I miss it!
I was looking for one of those roller machines that you lean up against for massage. I used one at Jack La Lane's gym in the 70's. I guess they don't make them anymore, but I don't know what they were called.Seems like they would still be a great thing to have in the gym, like Ragene, I'd like to know if you can still get one?
Yes, I remember joining a weight loss "spa" with these machines, as well as the wooden roller machines. I never quite figured out where the fat was supposed to be shaken or rolled to.....
Hey guys...of course these things don't jiggle the fat off but I have been wanting one for years. I used to use one at the ladies gym along with those funny roller machines. The thing is...they are GREAT for losening tight muscles and circulation. After a long day of sitting in front of the computer at work, I would love to come home to a couple of minutes on the jiggler! ha. Jimmy! Do you still have yours for sale?
Did you ever find one of those old time wooden dowel rolling machines? Of course they don't take off weight, but they are great for massage, circulation, and cellulite. I've called exercise stores, but they have no idea what I'm talking about. Can anyone help me find one?
I found one of those barrel rollers that is about 18-24" off the floor. The wooden rollers spin around. How much is somehting like this worth? Why can't I find a picture or an accurate name on the internet? I am in Houston, Texas.
Carla: Could you please send me the sites for the belt vibrating machines. What most people don't understand is that the lymph system is the garbage removal system of the body. It has 43 literes of fluid( your blood system is something like 17 litres) and take out the toxins that accumulate in your body. Most overweight people have their lymph system plugged due to lack of movement. These machines loosen up the lymph fluid and allow the toxins to be expelled through the lungs and urinary tract( the reason drinking 8 glasses of water per day is promoted). The vibrationg movement assists in the unplugging of the lymphs on hips and thighs etc, the toughest place for women who regularly have sit down jobs. They are still being used because frankly they work. Once the lymph system gets unplugged and begins to work again effectively and flow throughout the body again rather than be plugged and stagnant, cellulite packets under the skin( formed to keep the toxins away from vital organs) disappear and you do get thinner as a result of the lymph system functioning properly.A local gym has one and people are lined up to use it. The results when coupled with a 30 minute tone routine are amazing. I really want to get one to avoid standing in a line-up. Send the websites you know of asap. Thanks Lorrie
I have been looking for one of these for a while also, what sites can you find them on, or does anyone have one of the wooden roller drum machines for sale?
Carla....You said you knew some sites that have those vibrating belts and/or roller machines for sale. Could you please post them? I definitely would like to find one of the vibrating belt machines. I swore I lost a few inches using one back in the day!
And abso....Do you happen to know which companies in Asia still make these?
I can send pics if any one wants, jdadamson at sympatico dot ca, email me and I will send off a shot of the goods. I believe the one I have is a Torcan. It is in Pretty good shape. Haven't had time to think about it so I still have it.

Ahhh, the good old days. By the way, they also had a really good powder milk shake....even better with french vanilla ice cream!

WHAT a great photo!

I'm sure if they are collector's items they're on EBay.
