Free Diet Pills: The Fine Print You Must Read
There are tens (if not hundreds) of free diet pill offers out there. Fat burners, metabolism boosters, appetite suppressants - pick your poison, and you can probably find a "free" trial out there somewhere. However each of these offers are using a sales principle that warrants closer inspection.

Easy to order...
but see the little link at the bottom?
Some suppliers are worse than others. Rip off report lists many complaints from angry consumers - with Leanlife PM and Utralife PM both coming up again and again. The reports are all the same. The customer orders "free" pills, but before they know it, the credit card charges are coming thick and fast.
Let's dig into the terms and conditions of a random diet pill offer. This one is for a hoodia pill (emphasis added).
After the 14 Day Free Trial you will be renewed automatically for the one bottle for a one months supply at a price of $46.90 per month until you cancel your auto-ship program. You may cancel your auto-ship program at any time. You can cancel the auto-ship program at anytime by sending a certified letter to the address listed above or callHere are the points to watch out for:. Customers must respond before the next monthly bottle is billed. Once a bottle has been billed no refund will be issued. Emails and/or voicemails do not constitute a cancellation.
- You will be billed forever - until you cancel your auto-ship. Yes forever.
- In order to cancel you need to send a certified letter OR call a phone number. Slight problem here - "voicemails do not constitute a cancellation" - so if no-one answers - you can't cancel. That's nasty.
- Once you have been billed - no refund. So all they have to do, is get that bill out, and that's it - you've been stung. If you cannot cancel - you have no ability to stop the charges.
So - it's dead easy to sign up - just a quick form to fill out. However it is VERY difficult to cancel your program. The bottom line? Read the terms and conditions very very carefully, or better still, avoid these deals completely.
I'm disturbed about all these allegations/complaints about merchants selling supplies on an "autoship" basis. I've never heard or seen anything like this with the exception of pharmaceuticals. I will keep an eye out!
ReplyThis sort of thing is not only limited to diet pills within the weight loss industry but also some health food suppliers.
They sign up their customers for a free trial and then put them on their autoship list. Some customers who have not read the offer properly don't even realize that they've agreed to such an arrangement.
I have a severe dislike of autoshipping, it might be convenient for the supplier, but is very unfair for the customer - even if the products are good.
ReplyI need to lose weight and will definitely buy more if this works. I do require to pay C.O.D
ReplyThe "autoship" deal is also used by many of the companies that sell on home shopping networks (QVC, etc.). For make-up, skin care, oral hygene, vitamins, some food products - watch out. Having something delivered every month is great if it's something you want and can afford. Otherwise it gets expensive!
ReplyI think we all need to remember that if something sounds to good to be true, it probably is. I made the mistake of not reading everything and it has cost me. These buisness practices are very unethical. The word needs to be spread, do not buy products such as these. I will do my part on getting the word out about these practices.
ReplyI sent for "free" Leanlife sample. Was billed the the shipping, but product never came. A "regualr shipment of 2 bottles DID come and $99 billed to my visa.
ReplyI returned the unopened product and have been fighting for 5 months to get a refund.
Folks-
ReplyIf you ask the company involved to stop shipping and/or you ask for a refund and do not get it, call your credit card company and file a dispute. Usually you only have six months from the date of the charge to do this. It is called a chargeback and costs the merchant a fee, usually $25-$40 if the chargeback sticks. Be sure to plead your case (be honest) when you call. This is the joy of using a credit card.
I am trying to stop a order of leanlifepm , that i don't want, they give you 14 days to cancel, but it takes 9 days to get the free sample that leaves,5 days to see if the pills works .no pill will work in 5 days give me a break////the phone don't take messages every number they give you it saids don't e-mail this adress it's a auto reply only .so you do we call.bad buisness
ReplyMetabofuel is a total rip off. Customer service reps can't even speak much less understand English. I understand I'm screwed with the initial four bottles but asked to stop any further shipment and all she kept saying was I agreed to their terms and conditions. I asked to speak to a supervisor and suprisingly, none was available.
DON'T EVER ORDER FROM METABOFUEL. IT DOESN'T WORK.
ReplyAll I want to do is try the product without having to pay anything including shipping and handling. Some of these companies should offer to give samples away free so people will lose weight and buy more but they must not really believe in there products because everyone of them have hidden strings. Examples are paying shipping and handling, buy 1 get 1 free or you need to order and you will get 1 bottle free.
Replyi too was scsrewed with metabofuel....if there is ephedra in this product i will eat someones shorts... i love ephedra because it does work curb the appetite and more eneregy... but there is none in this product i even took 3 at a time and never felt that rush feeling you get with the old ephedrai am trying at the moment to get my credit card company to charge back these charges for these 4 bottles i received.. when you answer the ad in your email you are taken to a fill out form ..www3.securepayments.com/offers/metabofuel.html?c=BPmetabo018
Replyno where on that form does it say you are obligated or signed up for anything other than a free bottle and just pay shipping.. i have called and spoke to this woman who doesnt speak good english... and i yelled and ranted etc.. about these charges.. 106.82 on the 17th of march and another 99.99 on the 27th...she kept saying that there terms are stated and since i refused shipment..all sales are final....so i am out the crappy pills...and still have to pay... i hope that she realized that i want off this program.i better call and make sure that i am cancelled..or it sounds like i continue to be billed for this....so anyway any one who is even thinking about ordereing that free bottle.. dont... dont dont...!!when i typed in metabofuel on google.. i got the rip off report...and knew right then i was screwed...hopefully my credit card company will get it taken care of...
I too was shafted by Metabofuel. In their small print of privacy terms and conditions they get yu to authorized getting screwed by them. I paid the original S&h on my debit card. When I saw the charge on my statement online, I contacted my bank for help. They were pretty much helpless. They contacted them and were told a "Supervisor" would call back shortly. Yeah right.
ReplyNever happened. I cancelled my debit account card, got a new card, but was also told it may still come out. I am now closing my checking acct, and opening another before they can take any more out. I had only enough for them to take out half at the time they did.
I get to join the list of people shafted by Metabofuel. I have been on the phone 4 times with them and get the same thing. No refund will not return money and definitely they don't return phone calls even if they say they will. Talk about making money by ripping people off. This product is worthless no ephedra. I hope no one else gets the shaft like I did.
ReplyI ordered metabofuel 1000 and as all the other people writing of their displeasure about this product, I am being billed improperly also and would like to know what to do about this? Who do I contact to have them stopped from billing me? Please advice me as to what these other people did to get them to stop the billing...
ReplyThanks
B Willwerth
I've been had as well by Metabofuel. I don't know what to do! I need help! My bank is not helping me either. Please someone tell me what to do. There should be lawyers out there who will jump at the chance to sue this company.
ReplyThanks
Jessica
I got screwed too. They don't even give you someone to talk to .. I have been billed twice and my credit card company also won't do anything because no one will contact them back. Does anyone have a number out there that isn't a customer rep number.. I knew I was going to eat the first 99.00 but they keep coming.
ReplyI also was screwed by Metabofuel and it does not stop. I've called and called and must have talked to same lady who does not speak English, what can be done to stop this biggest rip off in the world. How about the Better Bussiness Bureau? What's worst these pills really don't work
ReplyThank you for your help and comments. These have prevented me from also losing money. I wanted to try the metabolife 1000, just to see if it would work like the 356, but thanks to your help, I will not be a victim of this company. Thank you!!!
ReplyI figured I would just add to this. I work at eAcceleration, an antivirus software company. Apparently the only phone number Metabofuel gives out on there website does not belong to Metabofuel It is actually one of ours. I get calls constantly from unhappy Metabofuel customers who say they were ripped off. Customers cant even reach the company to complain. Yet another Metabofuel scam.
ReplyI too was screwed by Metabofuel. The number I have is 800-752-0196. I have and urge everyone to file a report at rip-off report.com. They also have suggestions on how to go about getting your money back. If enough people file a complaint, maybe we can file a suit against this company and their scam. I have also written letters to the Utah Attorney General, Consumer Rights, Utah State Bar Association. Utah BBB, Federal Trade Commission, and US Department of Justice.
ReplyI was also taken by metabofuel. In the future I will read the fine print more carefully. I was charged $207.83 for my initial auto-ship order. I was quite surprised when I saw this charge on my account today. I looked for metabofuel on google and found this site. I have called and asked a service rep to cancell my shipments and he assured me that no further charges would appear on my account, should I believe him our close out my checking account immediately???
ReplyGo after him people. All of this is public information. Just got to know where to look. I feel for all of you. Deceptive business practices are rampant in today’s society. Be careful with your online personal information sharing.

Come on people you can now be pro-active and force his hand. Stand up and be counted.
Like Jason, I discovered a billing for $207.85 on my charge card today for the 'free' bottle, and was told the same things by the English-challenged rep. That I signed up for four bottles that total $207.85. That I would not be billed further.
ReplyI am also a victim of metabofuel,my bank told me because I gave them my debit card # when I ordered the free bottle it authorized them to charge my card for 4 more bottles, funny i can't seem to find that part of terms and conditions. How can they just keep ripping people off and getting away with it? If we are reporting what has happened to us, why isn't anybody doing anything about investigating this fraudulent company???

Metabofuel 1000
Yes the same thing happened to me on 5/1/06 they dunned my account $207.85 after I sent the shipping fee in and then I received 4 bottles of the Metabofuel 1000. Well I was furious when I found out that they had debited my account for $207.85, so I wrote a letter to the Consumer Credit in Utah, Attorney General's Office, City Attorney's Office and the BBB of Utah and then I also wrote letters to the shipping vendor where the pills were shipped from and also the address for Metabofuel 1000 and stipulated that they stop the AUTOSHIP and that it was their business was a Deceptive Trade Practice and that I was going to sue them. Well to say the least I got a call from them saying they will reverse the charges and that $207.85 will be credited to my account. They should be stopped from doing this and shut down.
ReplyHere is the email address that i have been corresponding with and her name is Lisa: lisa@metabofuel.com - let's see if i get a credit to my account within 5 business days is what the voice message yesterday said. Don't let this go people, take action, you can get your money back. I also told them that because of this unauthorized transaction that I had some insufficient charges to my account because that money was allocated for other charges, so let's see what happens. I also told them that I work for a law firm which I do, and I would not let this go. Follow the advice from Barre and get it done.
ReplyWell the division of Utal Consumer Protection called me yesterday and left me a voice mail saying that he contacted the Savoy 6 people and that they told him i was getting refunded my money and that if I don't receive the money to contact him. So people get your money back.
ReplyWell, I received the 4 bottles of Metabofuel yesterday, to my surprise of course. I have ordered things on the internet many times and this is the first scam I have fallen for..This is an outrage. I know I did not see anything about autoshipping or I would have never ordered the so called free product to try. I called the cell phone number for this Scott guy and left a message.
ReplyThis bogus company needs to be sued....$207.85 was charged to my credit card. I will do everything possible to get these people what they deserve. These people need to be arrested for theft in my opinion.
An update, on Metabofuel. I talked to Scott Moberly and he agreed that the ad was deceptive and said that my money would be refunded today on my credit card. He did give his apology.
ReplyI just did make the mistake to fall for the "Free" bottle scam, from Metabofuel 1000. Lucky for me, I order it two days ago, and then decided to do a background check on the company. to my surprice I found out the TRUE about this company, and the way they are ripping people off.
ReplyI contacted my bank and told them my situation, there are going to make
my credit card lost and I will be getting a new card with a new number.
This way no unwanted charges from this company will be made to my account.
I am glad I got to stop them before they got me.
Thanks to all of you who had the courage to speak up. I Thank you all.
Word of advice "Buyer Beware", I will be more aware no to fall for spam emails
from now on.
I want to let people know in my situation I did receive product and a refund without any hassles. I know that the phone number 8009067150 will get results.

ReplyCongratulations to all of you for standing up for yourselves. Never give up on what is right. Failure is not an option. I am glad my friends at the Consumer Affairs Division were able to get the Utah Attorney Generals Office on board to persuade Scott Moberly the errors of his way. Always be proactive. Being a victim sucks, yes?
ReplyI just wanted to thank Barre for all the help and information. THANKS so very much!
ReplyI received my four bottles of Metabofuel last week around Thursday, and today(Sunday), I did a Google search for Savoy7. Thank you so much for the information on how to reach Scott! His cellphone worked so well although he did not answer and I had to leave a message. He got back to me within an hour. He was very friendly and apoligetic and promised to refund all my money right away!! He does want me to return any unopened product which is his right. I hope he honors his agreement to refund the charges. He seemed like a real nice guy!
ReplyDianne you're very welcome. Furthermore if that is you on Rip-off Report.com congratulations for stepping out on sharing what you know with anyone else that may be looking for help. I did not, because I wasn't a victim of this particular scam. Just a concerned consumer with time and resources as it were. Salute!
ReplyI received a credit on my account for $207.05 on 5/12/06, so yes it is worth the trouble get with it people. Thank you Barre for being a concerned consumer.
ReplyI am in the same boat as the rest on this scam. All I have recieved is one bottle and charged the 207.85
I am glad to find this site for help. Card company said I agreed to terms and had to pay. I will get in contact with Utah Consumer Affairs.
ReplyI was also a victim of this scam with Metabofuel, but luckily for me I caught on to it early enough. For one thing, I never order from these types of places with my debit card. One thing credit cards are good for is protecting you from situations like this. As soon as I realized that I had been charged for $99, I called the number listed beside the charge to find out why if the bottle was supposed to be free. They did initially charge me $4.96 for the shipping of the free bottle. When I got in contact with the customer service office, the person with the limited english speaking ability, gave me the same crap that you all have reported. I contacted my credit card company after that, and filed a dispute report. I was told to send back any additional pills that they were to ship and let them know that I was canceling my membership, although I had never agreed to join one. I guess just to have my request on record. I received my money back about a week and a half later. I wish you all luck with your complaints.
