Fast Food: Fake Nutritional Information?
Most
people know that fast food tends to be high in fat and salt - but exactly how high? Can the nutritional data sheets be trusted? Investigations carried out by Which? magazine in the UK have found that the actual fat and salt values can be significantly different from the "official" data (via Independent).
McDonald's website claimed that a Big Mac and medium fries had 786 calories but analysis showed it had 900. Burger King's Whopper and regular fries had 19 grams of saturated fat, rather than the 13 grams claimed. Levels of saturated fat in KFC's Zinger crunchy salad were almost treble the company estimate.
What's even more tricky is that many of the so-called healthy options have higher amounts of salt (for example) than traditional items. A KFC original chicken salad contains more salt than a KFC chicken fillet burger.

Hold on – let me just check the nutrition facts panel on my greased soaked burger wrapper – wow! – that is a lot of calories and saturated fat - hey, I bet if I eat enough of these I am going to get fat and have a heart attack.
I never would have guessed that without the nutritional information provided by this fast food joint.
Thanks for the warning guys!
Now can I get a super-sized order of fries and a ridiculously huge soda with this fat burger?
BK, KFC, and McDonald's providing incorrect nutrition information?
Ya think?

ReplyI don't think it matters how healthy a person is, fast food needs to be in moderation, to much of a bad thing is bad.
ReplyIt doesn't surprise me that they'd lie about stuff like that, but why would they? The people eating most of that stuff aren't usually counting those calories, so they probably don't really care too much about a couple of hundred calories here and there. This is exactly why I refuse to eat at fast food joints.
Reply19 grams of saturated fat for 1 meal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!????????...that is disgusting...and i say disgusting because i just ate that last evening...oh god..that is the last time i'm coming near a single fast food joint!!!
ReplyIt's silly to over react about this. Any food, including fast food, can be a part of a healthy diet. It's just something you eat once every couple weeks, not once every couple days. It's stupid to assume that because you eat one cheeseburger, you're going to get fat.
ReplyOf course, it is disturbing that they'd lie, and it's even more disturbing that sometimes the salads have more calories and fat than the sandwiches. But how can we be sure that more nutrition labels aren't wrong?
I guess I'm just paranoid, but I don't trust things like that very often.
i guess you could say fast food can be a part of a healthy diet, it isnt bad to "treat" yourself to the occasional bad meal. the only thing is, where the food comes from in these establishments, and the fact that this food isnt good for you...at all even if you do eat it once in a long while. and there is also the delima of should you support a company that doesnt care about your health or the well being of our enviroment.
ReplyNicole, you are not paranoid. Remember the Pirate's Booty scandal? They marketed their stuff as healthy alternatives and turns out they were lying and their real nutritional info was very close to Cheetos's.
ReplyWOW! Absolutely not a surprise that...didn't you know that labeling is as much advertising than product information!
Ever noticed that companies often give you nutrition information for "Portions" that are never used!
Take a look at canned soups, they will have a can which is good for 2 small bowls, and tell you the can is for 3 portions, thus reducing all the "Fat" levels.
mmmm....
ReplyIt doesnt matter how much calories it has it matters how much a person eats of that particular food.
Replyi think that mcdonalds is a great place to eat and i eat there about 2 times a day. i am only 110 pounds and i am 36 years old. i do not exercise and im in very good health. so u guys are wrong
ReplyQuarterounderwithcheese, without exercise and living on fast food, no, you are not in good health, regardless of what you say.
ReplyWho said people who eat fast food don't count calories? I work out 3-4 times a week and once in a while I'd like my Big Mac, or maybe that KFC "Fiery Flava" Chicken they've been advertising around here in Singapore. But when ordering, I usually glance at their nutritional chart to make sure I order a "lesser evil" food item.
By tricking us into thinking that what we're eating is not as bad as everyone says, they're just being the money-minded corporations they are. So we need to hit them back by eating there as less as possible.
By the way, McDonald's here even has the nerve to start a "fitness awareness" program for children! And Quarterpounderwithcheese, you're 110 pounds because of your genetics but do write your will soon.
ReplyIf we eat lots of sugur and fats every day we will become obesse and it will be difficult to lose it but i'm not saying that i we cant ever have fats and sugurs just once in a great while. you'll get what i mean if you watch the movie " super size me" that will teach us alot about what we eat here in the united states.
ReplyI agree with everyone above who suggest fast food in moderation. Everyone already knows how unhealthy fast food is. This doesn't keep me from craving it from time to time. I use fast food as an occasional reward for doing a good job on my diet.
Like Ray, I do look at the nutritional info on fast food menus so that I can choose healthier alternatives. Yesterday the nutritional menu helped me decide to eat a 6 piece chiken nuggets (250 calories) and a diet coke for lunch rather than a Filet-O-Fish for 400 calories.
About the nutritional informaiton: Almost all foods have variaiton in the amount of calories and fat they contain. An apple can have anywhere from 50-120 calories depending on it's size. Similarly, if the McDonald's server decides to be generous an add a little extra dallop of mayo in your burger, it could up the calorie content by 100 calories. If on the other hand, they decide to skimp on the condiments, your burger may be 100 calories healthier. When you're looking at nutritional info, keep in mind that the absolute numbers only give you a ball park estimate of what you're eating.
And Quarterpounderwithcheese, thin does not necessarily mean healthy. Eating at McDonalds two times a day is OBVIOUSLY bad for you. You should know that. And what possible reason would you have for posting this type of message on a DIET board other than to flaunt the fact that you can eat all you want and not gain weight?

Replythat person that wrote that is disgusting-utterly DISGUSTING!!!!!!
i have been eating every day since school started at burker king i mean every day. I eat from there because its the cloosest fast food restaurant around my school and i always go out to eat. Every day i mean no matter what i always go. And i have gained 7 pounds ever since this school year started. I wanna stop but i cant i just to way 103 pounds now i weigh 110 men now that a lot and im only 16 years old and i have gained 7 pounds in less than 5 months thats alot i went from a size 0 to a size 1 then 3 then i have been 5 for a while but they are really tight on me. SO please people owners of restaurants quite putting so much grease on the fries and on the burgers. i really love fast food and i ain't never going to stop eating it. and when my parents don't let me go i prefer not to eat at the house.
ReplyI think it is horrible that even the salads ot macdonalds are loaded with suger, but I also think that for the people, there is something to do. we aren't obligated to eat at fast food restaurants any more than that stupid clown is to sell it to us. as for quarterpounderwithcheese, i agree with Jan and Ray
ReplyI think kindakritic is totally accurate. as for Gladys Ramirez, I know what it is like to be on that road, but it is up to you to make a difference for yourself. I know that might sound harsh, but I hope it helps
ReplyLMAO HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAAHAHAHHAHA im glad so many people are shocked at this finding seeing as every once & a while after u eat fast food you get a stomach ache or even throw up... Who knew that was bad for u?
ReplyLanie, is my sister she is the one that said she has pus running out of her ears.Don't be discouraged by her. The reason that she has pus running out of her ears is because she did not clean her ears the first coupke of days and she was also pushing on her staples when the lady told us not to touch them. She also has bumps all around her ear because on the 4th day she put antibotic ointment on her ears ans she is allergic to it. Don't be discouraged by her. Me and my mother has has staples and we don't have any of the problems that she is having. Good Luck!!
ReplyHi guys... omg I eat so much junk food KFC, burgur king, maccas. See I dont feel any different to when I eat healthy either way i am energy drained. I used to eat healthy but as soon as college started I just ate junk for coz i couldnt be stuffed to get out of bed earlier>> just so much more convienient. I dont seem to be gaining weight... instead im losing lol. i know i should eat more healthy but i cant get motivated ... I always promise my self i will eat better tommoroe then it comes and i eat it on impulse. The only way to put me off junk food is the content of the meat... since i dont like meat a lot if someone told me wat they actually add into it, it would disgust me and i wouldnt touch it for a looooooong time.cheers
ReplyRef: Ear stapling. I am curious to hear from Ang who posted on 12/27/05 and Sarah Timple who posted on 1/4/06. Ladies, how is it going??? Please tell me something positive as I am really interested in this procedure.
ReplyI am interested in getting my ear stapled to loose weight. Does anyone know of anyone that does this in the Conroe, Texas area?

ReplyHey Everybody! My mom and I are thinking about having this done and I am totally skeptical. I really want this to work, have tried everything else and nothing works after I had my kids. I am in Louisiana and do not know anyone who has had this done. I am very interested in success of this. Please let me know results if you have them.
ReplyI find that this is not disgusting i think that is very good for you to have 5000 calories a day i wiegh 1000 pounds
ReplyI think that if you are going to go eat at a fast food joint you should know it wont be healthy.
ReplyIf you dont like it dont eat there.
I teach at our local school. Several of us were like many others, and willing to try anything. It didn't work for any of us. This IS A HOAX people; don't waste your money! The power of suggestion is all that has motivated these other people into losing weight. You think it will work so it does. The fact is, a staple in the ear will cause you nothing but nights of restless sleep (you can't lay on your side), headaches, and sometimes pain that goes from your ear down your throat (interesting feeling). This is the site that led me to think it MIGHT work, and that's why I'm leaving this message. I hope no one else falls for this scam. The staple sounded too good to be true, and as we all know, those things usually ARE. Best of luck to all of us who struggle with weightloss.
Replyi work at kfc and i try not to eat a lt but its difficult lol, anyway there cant be more salt in a salad then there is in a fillet burger because the salad has a fillet in unless salad has salt in which i know it doesn't so everyone gives false information based on what they want to project out to everyone else.
ReplyQuarterpounderwithcheese u might look skinny and not weigh much but it is only because of your high Metabolism. On the outside u may look wonderful but if you get a sickness right now you would be toast because you have unhealthy eatting patterns and no exircise. Your probably think yah what ever I will never get a sickness that could kill me.
Well just you wait.......
ReplyI'm 20 years old and fast food junkie myself; I'm 5'0 90lbs-94lbs. I'm slim now but I have a little gut, and I hope this crap won't catch up with me when I get older. I may not look obese, but its not like I'm getting alot of nutrients or good fats into my body. I only eat chicken sandwich meals at McD's, the way they make burgers is disgusting! I know cuz I used to work there. I eat burgers from BK or Wendy's cuz they actually cook them, so I'm getting a little protein I guess. But its best to eat junk in moderation, there's no way I could stop eating junk altogether, lol.
ReplyI bet that Quarterpounderwithcheese guy is one of those McDonald fanatics that is bolemic that pukes up the burger just so he can go buy another one and puke up that one so he dosent get fat, or possible he does have a high metabolism. I say eat at Subway or DQ (Mmm Dairy Queen) they dont boil there burgers in lard like Mcdonalds. I tell yeah when you grab a Mcdonald Burger you could fill up a super sized cup up with the gresse that comes out. Not only is it unealthy for you to go to Mcdonalds ever day (if your so highly addicted) it is also very unheathly for your wallet! why spend 6.00$ for a Mcdonald combo that only fills you for a good half and hour before you have to go buy another one where you can eat at home for free. You should only eat mcdonadls mabey 1-3 times a mounth (but you could eat at DQ every day its so dang good LMAO)
Replydid you no that if u had one ice cap it is worst then 2 big mac wow that is cool n i said to my self mcdonles is very very bad for you don;t eat there a lot
ReplyQuarterpounderwithcheese you shouldn't be eating food, it will kill you. Too many calories, so disgusting. Better not eat anything at all.
ReplySarah, you failed at your attempt to be funny, I'm sorry to say.
Replyfast food companies only care about money, its all a competition for them. they dont care about your health they lie about caring and they lie about nutritional facts to pretend they care about health and companies make billions of dollars a years by lying. if people could see the production of making patties for hamburgers, i am almost sure theese lying companies would go broke.
Replythat 12 year old is right
Replyu people should read fast food nation after reading that fat and calories are the least of your problems the meat can contain E.coli0157:H57 which is a food borne pathogen (kinda like a disease) and people can die from it.
ReplyQuarterounderwithcheese, you are totally disgusting of wHAT YOU EAT CUZ no sooner or later youll .....and trust me.....
