Tried Every Diet?

It's a cry of frustration - "I've tried every diet... and nothing works".

In reality it would be very difficult to try every diet. There are hundreds of them. It's really that the concept of dieting is faulty - rather than the individual eating plan (although there are many eating plans that are nutritionally poor).

For over a year now, myself and others have been putting together a reference site for every diet in existence (Every diet - diets for detox, weight loss and health).

Why another diet site? The web is strewn with diet sites - but I've never found one site that was comprehensive. Each site only has information about a small set of diets - and often only a paragraph or two. Even the superb Wikipedia only has about 40 diets listed (and many are just article 'stubs'). Wikipedia is also prone to defacement and endless argument over the "neutrality" of each article.

A Diet Encyclopedia
The vision of EveryDiet.org is to have detailed outlines, sample meal plans - and real experiences - of every diet - altogether in one place. It's slow going - there are an incredible number of diets out there - and I must admit that after reading so many diet books - it's hard not to feel both fatigued and cynical. There are currently over 100 diets on the site - but I could do with some help.

Want to help?
If you have experiences (either positive or negative) or knowledge of a particular diet, and would be interested in writing an outline - please contact me. No matter how obscure or unusual - I would love to hear from you.

we overweight folks need to get up and out and move! once the body becomes stagnant depression sets in and it just becomes a vicious cycle. depressed, so u don't wanna move, then the more depressed u get. i have pretty much stayed in bed all my free time. i can barely get to work. on the verge of gettin fired but whatever i have fell in love with sleep. an escape from reality! we'll see if tomorrow will be the day i start excercising again.........

I can surely relate to your feelings. My house is full of various books and pamphlets. I was just reading about The American Plate. Its not an actual diet, but perhaps their method is worth a try.

This is an excellent site.

It is nice to be able to view all the “diets” at once and be able to contrast and compare them.

At the end of the day most of the “diets” have the common denominators of low fat proteins, complex carbohydrates and healthy fats in certain ratios with some kind of limit on amount of food per meal. This is true whether you are talking about The Zone, Atkins after the induction phase, Low Glycemic, Paleolithic, Mediterranean, South Beach, etc.

For the most part I believe these various “diets” are designed to sell books, supplements, and weight loss programs.

The important point is to pick one and stick with it with out cheating. If you stuff yourself like a Thanksgiving Turkey this week you will probably look and feel like a Thanksgiving Turkey – I used to use every holiday and special occasion as an excuse to over eat.

In my medical practice I now instruct clients on a Low Glycemic diet very similar to the Zone. I also incorporate hormonal optimization in my medical practice along with increased water intake and an appropriate exercise program which really accelerates progress toward ideal body weight and composition.

What ever diet you choose, just be true to yourself and the results will follow.

I tried several diets before I got serious about losing weight. The problem with diets isn't that you can't lose weight on them, it's that people think of it as a temporary way to eat. If you eat nothing but egg whites and melba toast for a month (tried that one), you start to crave things like chili and barbecued ribs...so once you lose weight, you go back to eating the old foods. Since your body got accustomed to eating less, you gain back what you lost, plus some more. The only way I was able to break the cycle was to realize that I had to eat "good" for the rest of my life if I wanted to stay thin. Now I eat a very healthy diet and I allow myself special treats every so often so I never feel too deprived.

I'm with the others that say you don't need to think of it as a diet, which is misconstrued as a temporary change in what you're eating. Just start enjoying the healthier alternatives and eating less than you used to and you'll be fine. You'll feel better, your body will get used to having less in it, so you won't crave as much, and you'll actually start enjoying a nice bowl of Kashi, or a veggie burger instead instead of running away from it. Plus, exercise is so envigorating, that once you actually start, you won't be able to start. You will actually crave your morning/evening run to the point where you won't be able to do without it. Take it from me, it can be done. I've lost 40 lbs in 3 months with just simple changes to diet and lifestyle.

This is a great idea. One suggestion: turn on comments! Maybe you make 'em moderated so that they don't turn into a "low carb sux" vs "low carb rules" kinda long battle, but I think it would be great to hear folks stories about their experiences with the diet.

Great site and will get better as more and more diets are added. There's so much choice in diets that you would think there must be one to suit everyone - but everyone is still looking for the Holy Grail - the easy way to overeat, sit on the sofa all day and have a great shape. Once you accept that isn't going to happen and make a decision between being healthy and unhealthy, overweight or slim you can choose any sensible diet and follow it with success. Or indeed a system I use in my weight loss coaching which is all about gradually changing to healthier habits and dropping the diet mentality completely.

By the way, are you including these kind of plans at your site?

I've Tried every Diet. I only gained more weight( on every one.) I do admit, I'm a big boy. I'm 11 and weigh 243lbs. I hit 100 in like 3rd grade. I just gave up! I ate ALL the food in the WHOLE house. When I could'nt Find any more food, I started to eat other people's fat from lypo-suction. I got tired of that. So Now I just go out and kill animals and eat them.

I completely agree with skinny4life.As to that diet thing,if you don't like diets or yours doesn't work, you can drink parsley juice. You must drink it hot and while you are hungry.I tried it and it helped me alot.It cleans the body.

News flash--There was a study regarding dieters who gained their former weigh after dieting.
Again there is a vast difference between dieting and exercising to look beautiful and changing your diet and excerising to be healthy. The latter is better, since the former would probably make you sicker.
