Don't Give Up Trying to Lose Weight

Yea, I bet you've been there too. You try to lose weight, AND IT WORKS FOR A PERIOD OF TIME, then you just gain it all back.... -_-

I don't remember how many times I've tried to lose weight, but here I am on the same train AGAIN, trying to lose the same pounds i tried to lose last week, last month, last year. It's just so frustrating!!

Some people have it lucky, they can just eat whatever they want and exercise and the weight comes right off. Some people don't even exercise!

Just a month ago I was 10lbs lighter. I worked my butt off for...4 months just to lose that weight and now, it's back again. It's like a reoccurring nightmare! *insert scream here*

So I told myself, "self, you have to lose this weight". And this time, I will lose it.
How many pounds do I have to lose? I am going for 30 lbs (if not more :P).
I am about 5"8.5-5"9 and I weigh around 175.

I am desperate to lose weight. I always here about ways to lose weight. And I know you have too: acai berry supplements, colon cleansers, salt water flush, lemonade diet aka master cleanse, weight watchers, ab lounge and all those other machines that guarantee weight lose, counting calories, writing down what you eat blablablabla yea

I've heard them all. And I bet you have too.

I want to try them so bad, but I either don't have the money :(, I have tried some with no success, no time (or patience), or I don't have the will power to stick to them.

BUT THERE IS HOPE!!!

You don't NEED those things to lose weight, cause in the end it's all up to YOU.
As lame as it may sound, YOU are the one in control.

Ok so i'll be honest, I am OBSESSED with the scale. When I wake up in the morning I look at the scale, after I eat I do, after I take a shower, when I come home, after I go to the problem. But I would constantly see the same number! I mean once in a while there would be a 1 or 2 pound different, but for the most part it was constant.

Part of the problem for me (and a lot of other people) is that I want to lose weight now. NOW NOW NOW, or ASAP!!!!

Why? Because of my family, friends, the media, the reasons are all around.
I would aim goals like 10 lbs a week. If I only lost one pound a day I would be mad. And now that I think about it, I think I ate because I found no difference in eating and losing only a pound.

Plus I did that thing where If i lost weight, then I could eat something like say a cookie and say to myself that I could lose the weight again. Yea, starting to realize that that wasn't such a great idea...

I try to not do that anymore. Sure I won't lose the weight all at once (even though I wish I could) but now I try to be more patient and think of my goal I'm trying to go towards.

The food I ate.
Ok so I'm half asian and half african, two biggest things to eat in my family is MEAT and RICE. Then I came the US and so add to that list CEREAL, BREADS, CAKES, DOUGHNUTS, CHIPS, basically carbohydrates. When I eat those foods, I EAT it. Especially if the food is good.

Now I'm cutting back on those foods. Although those foods are good, I'd rather be a skinner, fitter person. Realize that I did not give up those food. If you have the will power to do so then go a head, I do not so I will not.

**If you crack it's ok, just don't lose yourself to it & try not to give in to temptation**
We are all human, it happens. We might want that slice of pie. But just because you do doesn't mean you should give up and eat the whole pie.

Exercise
Funny how this word always comes up when you try to lose weight.
I say pick a machine and stick with it (ie treadmill, step climber, bike, etc). It's good to try the other machines at the gym, but you will most likely be attached to one. Plus you will be more motivated to try your best at one machine than you will if you do more than one.

**weight lift.**
I've realized that although I gained the weight, I haven't gained it where I lost it.
What do I mean? I lost weight in my arms and back from weight lifting, and although I gained weight, I haven't gained it back in those places as much. So I lost more than there than I gained.

Plus weight lifting (and resistance) confuses your body so you lose more weight!!

My over-all advice?
TAKE IT ONE DAY AT A TIME!! It literally is a daily challenge.

Sure, it's great to set goals and stick to it. But you'll probably be stressed by it. So take it one day at a time, one meal at a time.

One choice can really make all the difference. Take that salad and not that chicken burger, go on. I DARE you. And when you're a skinner person come back and thank me :)

This is my first week going with that motto (and other stuff I mentioned) and I guess it's working.

3lbs in 4 days, not as much as I want it to but it's surprisingly working.

If you have success stories, diets that work, or encouragement, questions, if you agree,
anything PLEASE comment.

I need all the support I can get, we all do :P

i've found it. the answer. really.

don't be so hard on myself.

i'm cursed with a lack of discipline and a severe intolerance for carbohydrates.

but i have a couple of friends who i go to the gym with a few days a week (depending on our schedules), and a diet plan: ~1750 calories daily, 260g protein, 60g fat and 43g carbs. (the guy who owns the gym ran my numbers.)

that is tough to stick with, especially considering that your average turkey sandwich on whole wheat has more carbs that i'm allowed in a day. but that is ok.

i can do it. i haven't been hungry. and the only thing working against me is my own lack of preparation.

i order salmon when i'm out. or a steak. and i have broccoli or string beans instead of a potato. no biggie.

and i don't beat myself up when i go over. here's why:

one pound of body weight equals 3500 calories. if i laid in bed all day without moving, i burn somewhere between 2200 and 2400 calories just to stay alive (my BMR). if i cheat one day a week, and really over-eat, i'd have to eat 5700 calories that day - in bed - to gain one pound.

so, eating semi-normally, and adding an ENTIRE Entenmann's Chocolate Chip Crumb Loaf Cake (2000 calories)and i'm probably not going to get near 5700 calories.

and! i'd have to stay in bed! once i move, i burn more than my BMR.

so, a small bag of m&m's here and there, 10-20 grams over on carbs every other day, whatever...it's all good.

it's working. and it's something i can stick with.

supplements, diets, in fact, all things advertised as weight loss aids are garbage. nothing but education and some self-parenting (understanding, forgiving discipline) will work.

(for example, ever see those ads online about "getting ripped in 4 weeks?" absolute bullshit. all the crunches in the world will not get anyone ripped. (spot reduction is a myth.) these guys and girls get "ripped" by spending hours in the gym, and controlling everything they eat to the microbe.

but they have no problem selling you supplements that won't help you one bit.

i'm in for the long haul. i don't need to get ripped in 4 weeks. i need to learn to be happy without a daily pannini.

now i just give it time.

    and it's working.

    good luck.

sjf isn't it amazing how simply changing your diet helps you lose weight?
That's a hard plan to stick on (well for me it would be) so I must say that I am impressed and I wish you the best :)
It is a bunch of bullshit and it's sad to see that millions of people are falling for these scams because they are so desperate to lose weight!

@ Tires that's amazing! How much weight has she lost?

The answer for me was the Zone diet. With the Zone, I lost 100 pounds almost 15 years ago and I've kept it off. You lose a pound or two each week without any hunger or deprivation, and the weight loss is permanent. When you reach your goal weight you simply add a little more monounsaturated fat (olive oil, guacamole, almonds, peanut butter, etc.) to your meals to prevent losing more body fat. The newest Zone plan, called SuperZone, is just as amazing as the original Zone. The pounds drop off effortlessly, no hunger, and you feel great.

Good luck with your weight loss everyone!

Developed in India, yoga is a spiritual practice that has been evolving for the last 5,000 years or so. The original yogis were reacting, in part, to India's ancient Vedic religion, which emphasized rituals. The yogis wanted a direct spiritual experience -- one on one -- not symbolic ritual. So they developed yoga.
Yoga means "union" in Sanskrit, the classical language of India.

According to the yogis, true happiness, liberation and enlightenment comes from union with the divine consciousness known as Brahman, or with Atman, the transcendent Self. The various yoga practices are a methodology for reaching that goal.
In hatha yoga, for example, postures and breathing exercises help purify the mind, body and spirit so the yogi can attain union.

Pranayama breathing exercises help clear the nadis, or channels, that carry prana the universal life force, allowing prana to flow freely. When the channels are clear and the last block at the base of the spine has been opened, Kundalini rises through the spine, through the central channel called the sushumna-nadi, and joins the crown chakra. According to the tradition, the release of Kundalini leads to enlightenment and union.
