So after 13 pages on the 5 bite diet , it got shut down! It's a shame because we had started a really cool little support group.
Are any of you out there by any chance? Let's not drop this!!! It was so motivational!
EDITORS NOTE: Comments are now closed on the original 5 Bite Diet entry, as the size of the entry was so big it was causing performance problems. Please continue your discussion below...

YAY! I'm here to stay. Thank you so much for starting another forum.
Alright Alisa!!! let's hope the others find us!
Yeah, it would be good to have the whole forum back together...
I'm sorry guys - but at almost 800 comments, the page took ages to rebuild every time someone added a comment. I'll put a link from that page to this...

oh that's cool!
We are just so glad to have somewhere to keep in touch!
Thanks!
I want to be in the 5 bite thing. Tell me more about it.
Hallo!! I fell of the wagon this weekend, it all started when someone gave me a box chocolates. I can't resist chocolates But I'm back today and realy want to loose a few kg's before my husband go on leave in about a week and a half. For all of you who just started, good luck.
Sugar Suzane: I struggle with the english, I hope someone else will explain the diet to you. :)
5 Bite Diet resume for newbies:
-Drink as much of anything as you want as long as it doesn't contain calories.
-Take 5 bites of any food at lunch.
-Take 5 bites of anything at dinner.
-Take one multi-vitamin every day.
-Get a bit of protein a day "on average".
This diet can be modified , as Dr Lewis said himself, and you can set your own amount of bites twice a day.
Some people on this blog have done 5 bites 3 times per day instead of twice per day. They still lost weight.
I you need to know any more, first go to youtube and type in :
The Gregory Mantell Show -- The Five Bite Diet
You will see Dr Lewis himself talking about it.
You can also search for the 5 bite diet on this diet blog website where there are 13 pages of us blogging.
Good luck!
WHAT DO YOU EAT FOR BREAKFAST?
This morning was my weigh-in morning--137 lbs!
Wow, Way to go Alisa. You are so close to your goal. What does it feel like? Must be amazing.
Good luck to you and everyone else.
Hey, glad I found everyone again. I was really missing our group. After several Christmas parties and a bout of baking candy and cookies. I lost my motivation and gained. I'm back on track now though and following the 5BD very strictly. My plan is to hit it hard in the ten days till Christmas. By then maybe the habits will be ingrained in me enough to make it through the holidays.
Thank you, Lillian. I feels amazing...like a dream or something. I have trouble with all the holiday food around, too...
Alrighty then....yesterday was a struggle for my but I did it, and this morning I lost another 1kg! I'm so happy I'm back on track. Alisa I'm with you on the holiday food, yikes it is difficult, but I want to stick to this until at least next week. Then I'm just going to enjoy the holiday, until Januarie 2010. I will try not to indulge to many times. Have a nice day everyone. :)
Sorry I mean a struggle for ME. I also wanted to ask everyone. Where do you stay? I'm from South Africa.
I live in the United Kingdom...
I am also struggling with the pre Xmas foods!!!! it's everywhere, especially on TV!!!!
hahaha I need to stop watching tv! too much food there!
I am not gonna drive myself crazy during the holiday.
I figured I would do the 5 bite now for a few days, to get my appetite down, cause after a few days you do feel less hungry.....And I do well at not eating during the day, so I figured that on the actual holidays, I will eat whatever I want but only 1 meal.
I go home to France for 10 days and will have to deal with loads of cheeses and pastries...yikes!!!!
But, I can do 1 meal a day .....it's better than eating all day long.
Hi everyone, I will be starting the 5 bite diet today. I am very big (240 lbs) so I could really use this, and the motivation from others.
You can do it, SarahJ! The first week I did the diet, I lost 9 pounds. That's the great thing ... the diet keeps one motivated.
Hey u guys! I am new to the blog, but could reall use yalls help! Because I have been reading info about this diet for a while and keep saying I am gonna start and never do. I guess I need help and yall seem like yall could help me. I am (260) and have to lose it for alot of reasons, but the most important one is to be able to do more things with my kids! So (Alisa) or who ever has been doing this and has lost weight please help? and how much have yall lost?
Welcome to the forum, Donnie!
I started at 176 lbs on August 10, 2009. Today, I weigh 136. I'm aiming for 130.
I stuck very closely to the diet rules. I cheated for only a few days here and there. It's really an amazing diet. You will see fast results. I guarantee it.
i am on day 2 of the 5bite diet ! so far i am happy with it !
my face looks thinner already !
Welcome to all the new posters.
I'm from Midwest USA. It is nice to know where everyone is from.
I started in late July at 245. I made it to 198 a few weeks ago. Then two things happened. Our group was gone from the internet, (thank goodness we're back) and I found out my scale was 10 lbs light. So I probably started out at 255. Hope I can really stay on track till the holidays. I would like to be a lot lighter by Jan 2010. Don't know what I should weigh but at 5'1 I know I'm way too heavy.
I love salads but I found that 5 bites of salad just doesn't fill me up. I eat a lot of Sub sandwiches. half for lunch half for dinner. I also like frozen Lean Cuisine or Smart Ones entrees, eat half per meal. Usually that is about 5 bites. If not I throw the rest out. I do take a multivitamin and extra calcium every day.
Are you serious? This sounds dangerously unhealthy! I suggest you try using a website that helps you count calories and make sure you're in the right ranges for various nutrients, like SparkPeople.com. Good luck.
just so you know, this isnt a meal plan for life. you diet until you reach your goal weight & then go start increasing your intake to a more normal amount. the point of this diet is to shrink your stomach. see the problem with other diets is that you can eat a lot of healthy foods & get full, but most people end up getting sick of healthy foods & eat a bunch of junk until they are full & bc their stomach is the same size they gain weight or dont lose any weight. just my take on the whole thing =D
Yes I'm serious. I have tried every diet known to man, including the SparksPeole. Nothing worked for me till I started this. I would love to lose by the "healthy way" but it never happened. You say this is unhealthy but is being morbidly obese healthy? You suggest we count calories? Oh, come on, You think we haven't tried that. I've counted calories, points, carbs, you name it, I've tried it. Until you have walked in my shoes, battling obesity for over 20 years, don't knock the one thing that could save my life. My next step was gastric bypass along with the 10 to 20 % risk of death. And Drs do that all the time. I have several friends who have had the surgery and some have major problems. I know what they eat and I eat just as healthy even taking the vitamins, without the risks of surgery.
Sure I could gain the weight back, but that can happen with any so called healthy diet if you go back to old ways of eating.
OMG, I am so happy to have found you guys again. I am a serious lurker and I missed you. The five bites three times a day really works. One unexpected benefit, is that it finally cured me of my love for Snickers bars. Who says this isn't healthy.
TGIS
im gald its working well for you !! how long have you been on it/how much weight have you lost doing 3 meals a day ?
ive been doing 2 meals a day & i really hope to see some great results ! im beginning my 3rd day right now & i dont feel hungry AT ALL =D all ive eaten is dark chocolate snickers bars & i loveeee them
Since the first of December I've lost seven pounds. This is very good considering that I am OLD (Lilian I have you beat) and two of those days I fell face first into the Christmas cookies. I'm hoping for a clean run until Christmas Eve, and then will give myself permission to go way off plan until New Years Day.
Well good for you TGIS. It's great to have more of us old timers on the forum. Love your description of your Christmas cookie "accident".
My thinking is that at my age it's now or never. I'm not getting any younger and I want to feel healthy as soon as I can. As Dr. Lewis says, "lose the weight fast and be done with it, and get on with your life." That is exactly what I'm trying to do. We can do this, even during the Holidays. Good luck to everyone!!!
Hi Everyone, I'm sitting here feeling sorry for myself and wanted some support to get motivated again. I'm 50 years old and have tried them all and fallen off the wagon over and over. I was really hoping for just some motivation but with my past diet experiences I think I'm with Susan....this is unhealthy...maybe for a week just to get yourselves past the hunger pains and get yourself over the cravings but any more than that is not good. You need protein with every meal...4 ounces at least with some vegetables and fruit in the morning. Many small meals a day worked for me once before instead of three bigger ones. The last time I did well I lost 60 pounds and it's true the older you get the harder it gets. This five bite thing puts your body into starvation mode making it want to hang onto the pounds even more. I wish you all the best and I'm new to this online thing but if there is anyone out there who just wants support, ideas, recipes for a healthy weight loss lets start a BLOG? I don't even know what BLOG means but right now I feel like a big BLOB that needs help but healthy help because at my age...starvation won't work for me in the long run and with my family healthy history I need to do something now. HELP....good luck everyone I hope you reach your goals.
There are lots of free web sites out there if you don't feel this one is for you. Usually there are links at the bottom of this (dietblog.com) site to other programs. Sparks People is another if you are looking for slow "healthy" weight loss. Everyone has to find the one that works for them. These just didn't work for me and believe me I've tried them all. At 65 it does get harder. I've been on this 5 bite diet pretty consistently since Aug, and I've never felt better. I've lost almost 50 lbs. and my BP cholesterol blood sugar are in the better than normal range and I'm off all my meds. I was facing diabetes and insulin shots and maybe even gastric bypass. In my Drs words, Whatever you are doing, keep it up.
I think what keeps me motivated is that this so easy to follow, and you really don't get hungry after 3 days
Good Luck in whatever works for you!
Kitkat59,
Sorry you're feeling a bit down and discouraged. If you feel this is unhealthy, then by all means you should find something you feel is healthy. This diet offers the possibility to lose weight quickly, and is not meant to be a permanent way of eating
I do a three meal a day version. Usually for breakfast I have a slice of whole wheat toast with peanut butter, which makes five delicious, nutritious bites. For the other two meals I usually have two hard boiled egg yokes mashed with two slices of crisp bacon crumbled and a bit of mayonnaise, or some smoked salmon with cream cheese or a small can of tuna fish mixed with a bit of mayonnaise and topped with a bit of grated cheese and put in the microwave for a minute. As you can see, I get good quality protein.
I wish you luck in your search and hope you can find something that will work for you. I don't think you would do any harm to your body to give the 5 bites a try for a week and see what it does for you.
Hi everyone. Lillian I feel the same way as you. I've tried everything even the so called "Healthy" way, it just didn't work. What is healthy anyway, to much of anything is not healthy, yes even to much brocolli is not good or you. So, for all the people like Susan who just want to be negative, I ask you very nicely, butt out! If anyone feel this is not the diet for you, try something else, you will find something that will work for you.
Hello all! I just turned 20 and I would like to lose a few pounds and I'd like to start this. (: I would love to hear from someone one on one that this HAS worked for. I have a pretty healthy frame like a lot of you are saying you do, but there are parts I am unhappy with is anyone willing to give me a 1-on-1 "tough love" pep-talk and maybe your own personal success story? I ride horses so I will have some excersise too! :) I was also thinking about having a protein shake for breakfast each AM, does anyone think that is a bad idea?
Thanks again!! (I ate breakfast today but I'm skipping lunch and doing this at dinner! ;D
I finally got my Maa'Moul cookies...yum. They're only four bites, too.
Hi, I've been following something like this for awhile now, didn't know it as the five bite diet.
I lost 30 lbs, have kept it off for 2 years, also been doing some (not a lot) of exercise.
It's a great way of doing portion control while still eating things you like.
I'd say, for those who want more veggies, salad, but can't because it doesn't fill you up in 5 bites, I's think it'd be ok to have your five bite plus two bites of a salad with lo cal dressing or a plain vegetable.
I've strayed a bit over the holidays, so I am going to follow along & get back on track-
I completely (intentionally) blew it on Christmas Eve & Christmas ... But today I'm back on the wagon ...
Hi guys!
I'm going on this diet in the New Year. I'm 5'5" and only 142 lbs., but with a 33"-34" waist, and small proportions everywhere else (except my "conjoined twins" - my thighs! LOL!), I've always looked out of proportion. I know this regime will work. I'll just need to keep checking this website, for inspiration. You guys rock! Wish me luck & best of luck to all of you, too. Happy New Year!
Conjoined twins! love it!

Beer, I need a positive attitude like yours. I had lost about 45 lbs but gained about 5 back. I don't want to be on that slippery slope to eating too many bites again like I did before the 5BD.
Appreciate any suggestions. Happy New Year everyone!!

Hi everyone!
Day Two on the diet. Modified it - 8-10 bites, per meal. Yesterday, was feeling rough - no, not too much booze on NYE! LOL! - I think it was lack of caffeine. After having a tea, late last night, I felt a lot better.
Sticking to a portion-controlled regimen is exactly what I need, to stay on track. It has always been the portion sizes that got me into trouble, not really what I was eating!
Best of luck, guys! I'll keep you posted.
Sherri
Hi,
Good luck to you. Let me know how you do eating 8-10 bites per meal instead of just 5. I am trying to get motivated to start. Thanks
Hi Tam,
Well, there's been a lot going on in my life, so I didn't stick to it, but I'm motivated again, to do it! FOR ONCE IN MY LIFE, to actually do it! LOL...
Today, I just had a cheese sandwich, cut into two, fives bites per half. I ate the whole thing, but since it's already noon, my goal is another 5-10 bites, for dinner & nothing after that. I find evenings the hardest. It's sheer boredom and habit! Time to knock those bad habits into the middle of next week! haha
Good luck, Tam, and everyone else, too! :)
Sherri
Didn't start on Jan 1 but today I did great. I'm going to try to stick strictly to the program. With me, an extra bite leads to another and another and another etc.
Good Luck to everyone who has great hopes for the New Year. Here's to a thinner us.
Happy New Year to All!!
I'm going to give it a shot starting tomorrow. I hope it works. I'm going to start with 2 snicker bars a day. Any other suggestions?
Ate more than 10 bites (my spin on the plan) for dinner, but ended up only eating half of my Caesar salad last night, which for me, is a first! :)
Happy New Years all you 5 biters!!!!! ; )
Let's all get back on track!
Good luck everyone!
xxx
what do you guys that have been very successful on the diet usually have as your two meals?
While I was losing, I ate sub sandwiches for lunch, 1/2 per meal and frozen dinners like Lean Cuisine, Smart Ones etc for dinner---cooked half at a time. That was food I liked and portion control too. With me portion control is everything. Otherwise I overeat. I've never actually resorted to Snickers Bars, but I think the idea has it's merits if nothing else works. With me there was one more thing----water-----water-----water. On the days I drank my water, I did the best on the 5BD
Thanks for your good tips. How much did you lose the first week on the diet?
I think I lost 13 lbs. That was strictly 5 bites twice a day. But you have to remember that I started at 245. I think it is easier to lose a lot the first weeks when you weigh that much. The percentage of loss isn't that great when you consider my starting weight.
HI!!!
I was here before as "Biting Less" and I forgot my password and reregistered. My username is pronounced "ginge" like the first part of gingerbread.
Anyway, I did the 5 bite diet once before and lost 10 pounds in 11 days. I tried to exercise at one point and felt like I was having a heart attack, like- I was really worried. I couldn't catch my breath or anything. So, it scared me and I started eating crappily again and gained it back. I contacted Dr. Lewis about it and he said that exercise was excellent for toning, but that
"it doesn't help you lose weight. Weight loss comes from dieting. The "weakness" that you experienced before was probably due to depletion of glycogen. Your body, after you start the diet, makes glycogen from the stored sugar (fat), but during the first few days you completely depleted your glycogen stores, and then it takes a little while to build back up. Still, I haven't seen anyone in the office who found exercise difficult after the first week. But ... don't let your experience deter you--just jump back on the program and take it a little easier the first 2 weeks or so. The end result (looking, feeling, and being absolutely EXTRAORDINARY) is well worth any sacrifice to get there!"
So that was pretty awesome- I appreciated his response. I'm looking forward to getting back on the wagon as of today.
