Why Does My Heartbeat Race at Night?

I notice that recently I can't fall asleep at night despite feeling sleepy, and my heart is racing really fast. I think it's because I'm anxious or stressed out.

I exercise in the evenings on my stair climber and do crunches and arm weights. I'm not overweight, in fact I lost 20kgs over a span of a year and been maintaining it fairly well with cutting down my food intake.

So anyway, I'm often very sleepy in the day. What could be causing my heart to race at night? Is it just stress?

I noticed that this happens to me when I do evening workouts. I'm hardly an expert, so there might be another cause, but try exercising earlier in the day. Maybe that will make it easier to sleep at night; I know it's helped me.

I get the same way when I exercise at night. So now I exercise at 5 a.m. I get my workout in, and it has helped me fall asleep sooner. Good luck.

Could be anxiety, could be the exercise, could be a whole heap of other things.

Your best bet is to follow up with a doctor - better to be safe than sorry when it comes to your health - and even if it is "just" stress and anxiety then your physician might be able to suggest ways to help (i'm thinking stress reduction techniques, not quick-fix drugs btw).

In any case if racing pulses are worrying you - see a doctor.

Exercise in the evening does ramp up your metabolism - so not a good thing to do before bedtime. I've noticed that some are more sensitive than others. I know when I used to exercise at night, I couldn't fall asleep until about another 5 hours afterwards.

You should consult your doctor to know the real reason.

And please ask our doctor to check your thyroid. What you mention is often a symptom of thyroid disease!
