Last Sunday I decided to try the "liver-diet" or the diet that our patients are recommended to go on for safety purposes before gastric bypass surgery or gastric band surgery.
I am not having surgery, but would like to shed about 15-20 pounds from my current weight. I have been looking around the web a little and have been learning more about how great protein is for the body. Taking up to 4 purely protein shakes a day with skim milk. I still enjoy my coffee and don't really feel hungry very often. Once in awhile I will snack on some beef jurkey, but am trying to avoid carbs and fats altogether. Things seem to be going well.
Anyone having or had a similar experience? Thanks for your comments.

You should try the Ultimate New York Diet by David Kirsch. You have to eliminate alcohol, breads, carbs (starchy), dairy, extra sweets (including any fruit), fat.
ReplyProtein by itself doesn't have any nutrients to feed the essential functions of the body.
A high protein diet has been proven to offer rapid weight loss, but there is a cost. Usually, weight loss is comes with an element of depression as the body is starved of other foods it needs.
Also, read something on Mediterranean Diet that too much red meat can cause a build-up of saturated fat which when stored in the body starts to leak nasty chemicals into the blood stream, among other potential downsides.
So I suppose a high protein diet might be ok in the short-term but chances are the weight will come back and its probably not the healthiest way to lose weight for the longer-term.
ReplyI'll be surprised if you can keep it up for more than a couple of weeks. It's not a good idea to skip carbs altogether. For starters, your brain needs carb to function. Eating a high protein diet will induce ketosis, an abnormal metabolic state that is not good for you body.
On a mor positive note, I've been very successfully eating 'in the Zone" for years (the Zone Diet, created by Barry Sears PhD.). It provides all the lean protein your body needs to support your muscle mass, but not too much protein. This amount of protein is then balanced with sensible amounts of low density carbohydrate (fruit and veggies) and a dash monounsaturated fat. The Zone is easy to do. The best part is it really works! The weight drops off a pound or two each week, and it stays off. I lost 100 pounds over the first two years of doing the Zone. That was almost 15 years ago and I've kept the weight off.
Good luck to you!
ReplyAny diet that makes one component predominant is destined to fail. ( be it food or food type ). Your body will either adapt or revolt - in either case your efforts will fail.

ReplyTry the vegan diets. there are many sources of protein that can be found in plants.
ReplyI'm not a nutritionist, but I've read enough to believe that an extremely unbalanced diet is not good for your body. Think about it - even if you lose weight on your plan, if you end up feeling terrible or doing damage to your system, is it worth it?
ReplyWhat happens with many diets is that your body goes into survival mode. It's not getting the nutrients that it needs to survive so it stores the fat and starts burning the lean muscles that's why you get fatigue. Protein is great fuel for the body it restores the lean muscle and burns the fat but you also need other nutrients to go along with it to revitalize your cells. That's why you get the extra skin when you lose to quickly. Type in address bar www.weightlefthere.com or call 888-736-8354 and we can help you with all your concerns on safe weight loss.
