What Is a Healthy Pregnancy Walking Routine?

I am 6 months pregnant and was horrified yesterday when the doctor told me I gained 7 lbs in a month. He suggested walking.

What I want to know is how much should I walk?

I was thinking once in the morning and once in the evening, taking one of my dogs with me each time.

Can someone please tell me what a healthy walking routine is for a pregnant woman?

Thank you!

If you have been previously sedentary, try starting out with 15 minutes 3x a week and gradually increase to 5. Also consider seeing a trainer who specializes in prenatal fitness for a strength training program.

I am currently 17 weeks pregnant and I ran a full marathon at 16W3D and work out intensely 7 days a week, and you definitely do NOT want to be doing the things I do, as a beginner. :)

You won't be able to walk too much. Getting off your ass is the best thing you can do for your baby. In fact, the less you walk the more likely your child is going to have to live with the horror of having a fat mother. I wouldn't wish that on any child... Having a mom that looks like Peter Griffin would suck.

Since you're pregnant walking is the only exercise you can do.

Honey, why didn't you just ask your doctor?
