I've wanted to start dieting for so long, but somehow there's been a reason to eat... like birthdays, end of exams, and girls night outs. Currently on exchange in Europe and the pounds are stalking up again!!! I've been studying almost nonstop for exams and projects, not to mention homework, traveling and networking sessions, and the cherry on top is suddenly becoming very sick
I'm getting more and more stressed about weight. Looking at myself in the mirror, I wish I could just stop eating, or my metabolism would suddenly go haywire and work overtime til I become thinner...
It's now almost midnight and my mind is set about waking up tomorrow and changing my eating habits! I'm almost 5'6" and weigh 70kg. I'm not overweight, but this has definitely been my heaviest ever.
My goal is to be BACK at 60-62kg (which I was like 3 years ago before I started college). 10kg doesn't sound tough, but I wish I had the same will power in getting good grades as getting healthier.

Well, not to sound obvious, but you could start by spending less time posting about your good intentions and getting your ass into some sort of exercise routine.
ReplyYou'll have to decide once and for all to not use excuses to stop you from attaining your goal. There'll always be a reason to eat something less than healthy, so you'll have to find a way to manage those times. Instead of dieting, explore ways to eat healthily so you can sustain it for a lifetime. If you eat well 90% of the time, then you can splurge a little bit within reason when there's a get together of some sort. Since you're in Europe, I wonder why you're not able to lose weight since transportation is mostly dependent on your legs. Good luck to you!
Reply10kg might not sound like a lot, but it sure isn't going to happen overnight. Even 2 or 3 kg is enough that many people are still trying to get rid of it after years. Not to be the voice of doom, but if you don't make some changes right away then you're only going to continue to gain weight. Which will no doubt make you more stressed and more sick!
My advice would be to take some time (even 30 minutes) to think and write about why you really want to lose the weight. 'To look good' or 'to feel good' isn't enough. Why does it really matter to you? What is it about losing 10kg that is important to you? In what way is it important? Why?
If you can find your true motivation then it will become easier to stick to new healthy habits. I'd also suggest setting yourself a 30 day challenge to eat well and do some exercise daily (even 10 minutes). 30 days is very achievable, and you'll feel great when you get there. It's much smarter than saying 'I'm never going to eat bad food again!'
Good luck.
ReplyI have struggled with extra weight for about 15 years, and I mean struggled! I tried every diet and they all worked a little - or for a while. Then, guess what, back comes the appetite and the weight!
Then I tried this new thing- and it's not a diet. It's a neurofeedback device I saw on the Dr. Phil show. It's simple and safe - it uses sound, some kind of pulsed tones to shift brainwave patterns.
Anyway, the first day I used it, I focused on neutralizing my appetite. I actually forgot to eat lunch! So, I expected to really pig out at dinner. Instead, I actually left food on my plate instead of going back for seconds. This never happens.
Well, I kept using the device - 15 minutes a day at first, then every other day, then every 3 days or so. The results continued. My appetite was about 1/4 of what it usually is. I simply did not feel like eating.
The result: I lost 15 lbs. in 33 days. In the next few months days, I kept losing. A total of 33 pounds in around 3 1/2 months. No special diet, I ate everything. Not much willpower, although I did have to remind myself to eat less, I didn't have the "struggle" that usually happens. The raging drive to eat just wasn't there. It's weird. By the way, I've kept this weight off for over 18 months and just use the BAUD from time to time.
