I Don't Want to be Known as the Fat Girl

I'm about to start high school . this will be my freshman year . im going into this as a 15 year old who weighs way more than 200 pounds . i have lately been trying to work out and eat healthier , but it doesnt seem like it is working . i dont want to start high school and be known as the fat girl . i mean , i have friends , they would stand up for me in a heartbeat and i look for the good and everything .

I know i shouldnt care what other people think , but i REALLY do . my friends that are a year older tell me that people are actually less judgmental in high school , is this true ?

any advice is greatly appreciated (:

Morgan- Your friends are right, high schoolers are less catty than middle schoolers are. For the most part people will keep to their own groups and if your friends accept and love you how you are then keep them because they are good people :) Now as far as your weight goes, in addition to making a personal effort to be healthier, prehaps you should talk with your family about your intentions. That way, when groceries are bought for your home you may have healthier options available to you, and a support system will instantly be created. Your parents may even make an appointment to go in and speak with a professional (doctor, dietitian, etc.) about methods and plans you may try and apply for weightloss. Also if any one else in your family wants/needs to lose weight prehaps you could both work on it together and bond a little in the process. Best of Luck!!!

Kendra's right, in high school most people keep to themselves and their own groups. I've seen "fat" girls become homecoming queens before. There are extremely popular "fat" girls. It's all in your own attitude and perception of yourself. The only way people will look at you like the fat girl is if that is how you identify yourself and start acting out a reflection of that. If you are kind and have a cool personality, that is what they'll notice. If you are insecure and always acting self-conscious, they'll notice that.
Make sure you do eat healthy and exercise every day so that you have a healthy body (at whatever size it's meant to be) because if you don't set that as part of your life now, it will be so much harder later on.

The more you focus on eating healthier food and exercising more--and no matter what anyone says, there are healthy and unhealthy foods, foods that are fine every day, foods that are fine in moderation, and foods that should never be eaten with most of these latter being the processed rubbish in the center of the grocery store--the more that you'll be moving toward your goal. But no matter what, you will be healthier for it, even if you don't lose as much fat as you want. Don't try to lose too fast and don't focus on what other people think. Just remember that most anyone in high school is insecure about themselves.

Get yourself to Weight Watchers immediately! It's the best thing you can do for yourself. Weight Watchers will get you on the road to a happier, healthier life with realistic goals. I'm telling you, you can do it and get to a healthy weight where you will feel so much better about yourself! Keep goals small and simple and reward yourself for small milestones. It's the WW way. It worked for me. It can work for anyone. There are people of all ages and all sizes at meetings and you will certainly meet people that will be great support to you. It's so important that you lose the weight to be healthy. I know it seems like you have a lot to lose, but just keep the goals manageable and reward the small milestones and you will be so surprised about how far you get and quicker than you think! You should blog about it as well - maybe it will help out another young girl needing the same courage?

  • Everyone feels insecure about something. There will be lots of girls and boys who are worrying about being fat or skinny, wearing glasses, having a big nose or a small nose. See what I mean? :)

You are not alone in wanting things changed about your appearance. But, if you choose to eat well and lose weight it is a great decision that will make you feel good about yourself and improve your health.

oh honey. there are going to be assholes no matter where you go. high school is not the end-all, be-all of your life, nor is it the best four years. you've still got 60 years -- at least! -- after high school. be happy. enjoy yourself. practice some witty replies (they help), find stuff you like to do, and remember -- being thin doesn't make anyone happy, either.

look up joy nash's videos, kate harding's blog, and just work on being healthy.

    good luck!

Your goal is shallow. You won't start to see gains until you actually find a good reason to be healthy ; you have to really want it.
Anyways, don't eat these foods at all
    -Anything sweetened
    -Anything with partially hydrogenated oils
    -Any meat that isn't lean
-Any beverage besides water (unless it's a good liquid meal, no slim fast) Go for 8-12 cups a day. Don't drink it all in 1 hour...
There are more, but I can't think of them at the moment.
Oh, don't eat any grains that are white. Get the roughest whole grains you can find.
Nutrigrain bars fail. Most protein bars fail.
    Some call me extreme...

And most importantly, never listen to people who speak in absolutes, i.e., tell you to NEVEr eat certain foods. It's unnecessary, and will cause more problems than making extra effort to eat healthy foods and live a healthy lifestyle. I eat sweetened foods, fatty meat, coffee, milk, iced tea, occasionally lemonade, and I lose weight. I don't eat too much processed foods, which is, in my opinion, the diet we all should be striving for.

There is certian truth that refined carbohydrates are evil. To eat them is slow death. If anyone wants to lose weight just stop eating refined sugar ( I still eat the sugar cane, put it in my coffee or whatnot). Refined white rice and flour are also slowly killing us.

Fats are not the problem, overeating is not the problem. Obesity is caused because of a hormonal interaction between the refined and easily metabolized refined carbs. Period.

Oh.. and they hormones we are pumping into our livestock.. I went organic and have not looked back.

There is no reason anyone should ever be hungry. Just stay away from white bread, rice and high fructose corn syrup and the weight will fall off.

    THE TRUTH:

From a former fat girl to one well on her way this is a problem that will remain in ur life as long as you allow it. In order to achieve ur goal i strongly suggest that u try out and join EVERY sport your school offers. Pick you PE teachers mouths for you suggestions on what u need to do to achieve weight loss. People do not realize that P.E teachers are gurus in health and the human anatomy. Ask them how to lose the weight you dont want specifically in the area of cardio /resistance training and also how spread ur eating regimen to 6 times vs 3 a day.... cardio will shed weight and resistance will build muscle and muscle burns fat 24/7 imagine u will be actually losing weight when u sleep and eat ur favorite foods and ONe more important truth that will give u an edge on ur goal DO NOT EAT THE FOOD UR SCHOOL SERVES make ur own food at home even if its left overs from dinner and a salad with no dressing u be well on ur way

im not gonna lie in the beginning its going to be hard cause ur not used to this and im quite sure what ur parents make at home doesn't contribute to ur goal but if u really try u can do it REMEMBER food and exercise is the key....at the same time food and exercise does not have to be boring....my favorite exercise is swimming i get to play with friends and burn calories at the same time
