What Keeps You Motivated to Lose Weight?

Hi,

I am 19 years old (almost 20), and have just found out that all the weight I had lost I've put back on. I am here to get support to help me lose weight.

I currently weigh about 12 stone 10, and I need to lose about 3 stone in total, maybe a bit more.

I would like to know what is keeping all you guys motivated? I find it so easy to slip back especially when I'm having a down day.

I'm looking for a diet buddy too =] preferably a girl around my age please.

Hi, I would love to be your diet buddy. I am however 30 years old and am obese which is what the BMI index says. I want to lose weight and have no motivation. I have been trying to lose weight ever since my baby was born in Sept. I need to lose about 50lbs. I want to get up every morning and work out but there is no motivation and I am always tired. Maybe we could get each other to workout, eat better and stay on a path.

Hi, I am a bit older than you, but here are things that've helped me.

Exercise- find something you can do and try to do 3x a week. I use an elliptical. You do it for a few weeks and your body feels better, you still have alot of the weight, but it makes you want to eat better.

Portion sizes. I don't eat big meals anymore. maybe 5 or 6 small meals, more like snacks. So I can still eat things I like that may not be super low calorie, but I am eating smaller amounts.

Also, I try to center things around non food activities. I used to eat out more and stop for treats regularly. Now I'll shop for a book or go for a walk or something.

    Good luck-

what motivates me is some success. Start your diet, be sensible: exercise 5 days a week, eat healthy food , no sweets or treats to start, and keep your nose to the grindstone for two weeks without weighing yourself. Weigh yourself on DAY ONE and then again on DAY 14. If you are really faithful during those two weeks, you will see great success and then.... you are off and running.
    GOOD LUCK>

I am motivated by my love. He adores sports so he helps me stay motivated. Small meals are a good thing. I believe it is the best way, because your organism doesn`t store fat, but burns it. Buy a bike, go for a walk. Just take care of your immune system with vitamins. Don`t starve or doo things that might cause you problems later, like ulcer or gastritis. I was dieting when I was your age and have an ulcer now. Just know one thing, you are very young, you have it easier than older people and what ever you look like, you are beautifull.

I would say to start with small changes and gradually move to large changes when it comes to diet and exercise. Maybe people go the extreme in one day and get burned out too fast. Weight loss is a lifestyle change. Don't do any diets that you can't see yourself doing in years from now.
    - Start by cutting out one can of soda a day or eating more fruits/veggies and less chips and candy
    - Get a weight loss buddy to keep you accountable
    - Keep your food exciting: Check out this website: www.hungry-girl.com
It's normal food, just low in calories. Don't deprive yourself of sweets here and there. Everything is in moderation

Keep a photo of yourself looking thinner on you! Or somewhere in your house. It helps you stay on your diet or workout plan or whatever you may doing. There are a lot of sites that can take your pic and show you thin. I have a friend that used thinphoto.com

What keeps me motivated is reading/hearing about how other people's health has been affected by their weight. The thought of hurting my knees and then having to have surgery scares me, knowing I can prevent things like that. I also like being at a healthy weight-clothes fit better, I have more energy, etc.

Slipping off your plan now and then isn't the end of the world. Just get right back to it at the very next opportunity. If you allow yourself that freedom, it won't be so hard to change your lifestyle. I went on vacation last week. I didn't stick overly closely to my plan, but made healthy choices along the way. I still enjoyed eating out and over all gained 2 pounds. The moment I got home, I resumed my plan and lost those two pounds within a day and a half.

My motivation is honestly just the rollercoaster I went through with weight in the past. I started dieting in the 4th grade, and lost 20lbs, by the beginning of 6th grade I was on an eating binge, and gained nearly 100lbs! I kept dieting, and losing a little and than going back to my old ways, finally half-way through 8th grade I lost the weight and I've kept it off ( 8 - 9 years now) . I will never allow myself to gain the weight back, and actually fear the very idea of it. I guess that fear is what keeps me from gaining. I never want to be the "Fat Girl" again, I want to stay fit, and slim, forever.

    Hey girl,
Everyone has different things that help them get or stay motivated. YOU have to figure that out on your own. What do you want more than anything? What are you losing weight for? Is there something that you want to do that right now you cant because of your weight? Is there a certain guy/girl that interest you and you wanna look FINEEE for them lol???

For me, I talk to my self in my head haha. As weird as it may sound, I do. When I am confronted with crappy food, I tell myself, it's not worth it..it's going to slow down your weight loss. When I am working out, I push myself by saying..."your doing great, keep pushing, only 3more minutes, your gunna be hott."

When I do lose the weight I would like to lose, I am going to go skydiving. I know at this weight I can't really do that. So everyday I tell myself, "self, you are that much closer today than you were yesterday." Another thing you can do is prepare your food the day before. This seriously works. It doesnt let you cheat...you have all your food laid out and you just eat it. I love to think that if I don't plan, I am just planning to fail!!!
