I am 18 years old and have done every diet in the book, and taken every supplement.
Somehow, nothing works no matter what I do. Has anyone else tried everything and finally found something that really works?

Yes, every diet I have ever tried has worked, and I've "done every diet in the book".
Read the article JCDFitness dot com published today on exercising for fat loss. I assure you, you'll learn HEAPS! It'll probably be the key answer to your problem.
After reading that, goto google and type in "teach people about the bigger picture" and read that article on TheFitNews dot com.
This will back up what JCD has written.
After that, goto scivation books and grab one of the weight loss books. There's even one specifically for women if you are female. These books are written by people who have total control over their body and are constantly training others to do the same.
ReplyFor me the bottom line was to stop thinking about "doing a diet" and to start living a healthy life. I try to do between half an hour and one hour of exercise a day, avoid processed, refined, and fatty foods. I'm not a natural born exercise freak, but I've found things that work for me - I walk to work, I use the exercise bike at night in front of the tv, etc...
There is no miracle cure. There is no magic bullet. It won't happen overnight. That's why diets never worked for me - either I gave up before they worked, or they worked while I was on them but as soon as I went back to my regular life I regained the weight.
The only way to lose weight and keep it off is to change the way you live, to be honest with yourself, to eat healthy natural foods, and to exercise.
ReplyI can definitely say i've been there. Felling that nothing works, and nothing ever will unless i starve myself. Have tried out most diets but considering they are short term nutrition plans, and usually bad for you as they exclude certain types of food. I have found something that works perfectly for me. A veggie bomb daily and low fat - good carb food. I never excluded anything, not even carbs but focused on the good ones. by adding a bit of whole grain meals..as in boiled rye(etc etc) with nothing added to it. if u need further help i can email you details, try to help out and give some advice cuz i finally dropped a lot in weight in a somewhat short time ( i know you shouldnt but my body took it well) and i did it in the healthiest possible way (for me). It will not happen over night but it also doesnt take forever. Keep your chin up :)

Sign my name to the above. I've "done" every diet out there and I finally realized that a big part of my problem was that every time I started a diet, it was with the idea that at some point I could "stop" the diet. The truth is that you have to learn to change the way you think about food. I still enjoy food, love to cook, and love to make treats for my friends and family, but I make much more healthy food over all, and I exercise in reasonable amounts every day.
Diets don't work. Eating healthily and living a healthy lifestyle does.
ReplyThe only thing that worked for me was starting an exercise habit. Once I started that, in earnest (not just "phoning it in"), it was suddenly a lot easier to eat the way I knew I should be -- cutting out processed foods, restricting sugars & fats, eating lots of fruits and vegetables (raw or lightly cooked) and whole grains. For me, going mostly vegetarian has helped a lot (I still eat meat, but less of it, as well as less dairy). Cutting back on caffeine and salt helps some people. Mostly, try to focus on drinking water (instead of soda, diet or not, or anything with sugar, including juice), eat your fruits and veg, and work on adjusting your diet as you see what works best for you. Try working out for a 1/2 hr a day and see if that changes your appetite/outlook at all. Make sure you get enough sleep at night. The most important thing is to track what you're doing, how it makes you feel, and what works (and what doesn't). Having a record of what works for you can help a lot. Also, don't expect results right away. Just keep tracking your progress, even if it's very small at first, and making changes as you see what helps.

What works is creating a calorie deficit. If you're not losing weight, you are not in a calorie deficit. It really is as simple as that.
There are no supplements required for fat loss, however taking 3 grams of EPA/DHA daily is a good idea and studies show that doing so will result in improved body composition.
So when you say "nothing works" what does that mean? Does it mean you cannot successfully stick to the diet? Does it mean that you stick to the diet and you still do not lose weight?
First identify your problem. If your problem is mental (e.g. you just can't stay with your diet plan) then you need to get your issues sorted out and no diet will help you there. If your problem is that you are doing the diets in question, and have no trouble sticking to them, and you're still not losing weight then the answer is simple: your body isn't using more calories than you're giving it.

ReplyI know this will make me sound like some kind of paid promoter, but I swear I'm just a normal person who, until recently, was always overweight and for whom no other program ever stuck. What worked was a website - SparkPeople. It's completely free and I am so incredibly grateful. (I also happened to use Weight Watchers in conjunction with it when I first signed up, but have long since stopped going to WW meetings and just do SP and it's working for me just fine!)
ReplyOf course I have!!! And spent lots of money too. I was diagnosed diabetes in the past. My doctor gave me an ultimatum either I loose weight or start taking oral medication (metformin). He suggested me to try the cookiediet. I did the program for 5 months and lost the weight. My health and energy boosted tremendosly and my blood sugar levels were going down. It's been more than a year now and you now what I do to mantain it? Exercise 5 times a week and PLAN AHEAD what I am going to eat during the week. Maintanence is your responsibility, ASSUME it. Check the cookiediet you will be in good hands.
ReplyI was able to lose my weight years ago by the Atkins Diet, before all those Southbeach, and other weird diets even existed. My Metabolism has actually changed, and I can eat more carbs now, but when you first start out you have to keep an eye on all the carbs you intake. I was only eating 20 a day which resulted in my 50lb weight loss, now I probably take in 150 - 175, if that. Just keep everything in moderation.
A couple months ago I had a personal trainer, and was working out 5 days a week for over an hour, I could not budge from my weight of 150 - 155, I was devastated. My trainer had me start writing a food diary and I found out why I wasn't losing, I was not eating enough. I was only taking in 300 - 500 cals a day, plus working out, which was causing my metabolism to go slow. So let's pretend I had a cheat day on Saturday and ate 1000 cals, my metabolism only knew to burn the 500, which had me 500 cals over. I had to eat more (not bad foods of course) to help increase my metabolism. I started having close to 1000 a day and now I am at 145. It worked for me, but everybody is different!
