Any Tips for Getting Bikini Ready?

We all know (females) that bikini season is a dreaded one. I am a swimmer, so I have those nice broad shoulders making it very difficult to fill out beautiful strapless dresses, and bikinis. I also have muscular thighs from being an equestrian.

In two weeks I'll be heading off to the beach, where I'll have to strut my oddly proportioned body across the white sand in front of everyone! Every year the one thought lingers in my mind as the trip gets closer...my stomach!

If I'm going to have to wear a bikini, I don't want my stomach to have that nasty gut.

Besides cutting out the fat foods and doing some crunches, do you guys have any advice on how to trim down? I want to be able to walk out on the beach with all the confidence in the world!

Make sure you drink enough water to reduce bloat. Your body retains water if you don't drink enough. Have fun!

Er, maybe you should re-frame how you think about your own body. There's nothing "nasty" about a little tummy, and your body sounds like it's perfectly well proportioned. Nothing is wrong with broad shoulders and muscular thighs.

That said, don't forget posture. Keep your shoulders back and your chest up and out, and you'll look great!

Cutting out "fat foods" and doing crunches won't do anything.

Your body won't burn fat on your belly just because you do abdominal exercises.

If you have fat, you have to burn it. To burn it you have to use more calories than you consume. To do that you can reduce food intake or increase activity.

I'd suggest strength training two to three times a week, and some cardio for 30 minutes to an hour, three to four times a week, in conjunction with a calorie reduction. That said, it's unlikely that you'll be able to reach your goal before summer is over. You'll most likely find that belly fat is very stubborn and that your body will use up fat from everywhere else before it takes from your belly and thighs/buttocks.

Why do women feel it's necessary to wear a bikini?

I agree! A one piece swimsuit can look stunning and helps tuck that tummy you don't like away. You would have figured out from other comments that 2 weeks is not enough time for a body transformation.
With broad shoulders and strong legs, I can picture you looking great in a one piece. Have fun at the beach!

If you truly want to hit the beach with a decent "bikini body", you will hire a professional trainer - and a great one at that. Why? Because two weeks is a very short time period, and depending on your current state, it might not even be possible to get to your desired body.

Now walking out there with all the confidence in the world, that's a mental thing that you have to work on, and it has nothing to do with your body. Just think of the guys with beer bellies wearing thongs who strut their stuff on the beach. Confidence isn't tied to the state of fitness (or lack thereof)

I just have to say that 2 weeks is not an adequate time to get "bikini ready". You should have been thinking about this a few months ago so you would not have to "crash diet". Saying that, if you want to tighten up a bit in 2 weeks, it is going to come down to food. Yes, I am a weight person but 2 weeks ain't gonna do it & food is at least 65% of the whole weight loss process anyway. You are going to have to eat clean period for the next 2 weeks & that means clean! Eat more lean protein, cut out starchy carbs, drink lots of water etc. No ifs, and or buts... do not eat or drink any of the "bad stuff" (I ate to say that) for those 2 weeks.. even then, you may not get where you want to be. Also, if you start "over enjoying" while you are on vacation, it will come back & the bloat, as Josie mentioned above, will come as well.

I can relate with the belly thing! I have been eating healthy food in healthy amounts, doing cardio and strength training, drinking water, getting adequate sleep, the WHOLE deal, for a few years, and while it's done amazing things for my body and self esteem and helped me with a lot of trouble areas, I still have a belly! You can try cutting back a little more on food and adding in extra exercise if you want, but really you should be making all the right choices all year long to have the biggest impact, and if you step up your game right before an occasion it could backfire - you could get so hungry you revolt on yourself! Good luck! I know how nervewracking it can be to prepare for the beach!!

I agree with Kitekrazy and Kellie

Going with a one piece is a great options and one piece these days aren't you mother's bathing suit anymore.

If you are looking to tighten up really quick I used to have great success with Tae Bo 8 min workout and now i'm using Jillian Michaels 30 day shred. But I stress the words tighten up. Some of these fast body blitz workouts will help if you are already pretty shapely and just want to firm up. but if you're going from 0 to 60 just get a one piece and some nice cover ups. And enjoy your vacation.

It seems the whole idea of going to the beach is either one of ego or low self esteem.

"where I'll have to strut my oddly proportioned body across the white sand in front of everyone!"

Going to the beach, is one of the least constructive things people do if all they are there for is to lay out in the sun.

Bikinis were invented for men. It's the best chance they get to look at a women without being nude.
