I am a 54 year old female who has suffered from the progressive genetic disease cystic fibrosis throughout my life. The Medical Community have no answers, and it had progressed to the point I was coughing up cups of congestion constantly. I was essentially bedridden and exhausted all day long.
In the advanced stage of the disease, the pneumonia bug was permanently lodged in my lungs, and my body was quite acidic. In desperation, I tried to alkaline my body by drinking 8 glasses of water per day with fresh squeezed lemon or lime juice (the most alkaline food on the chart), and also tried to avoid acidic foods as much as possible.
The results have been dramatic! Now I barely have any congestion, my energy is great (I'm jogging again) because my airways are much clearer, and I have lost 7lbs and feel great!
My question is this: Is there anyone else who had major health problems which were significantly reduced by an alkaline diet?
As soon as I stop the alkaline diet, the congestion comes roaring back, and since it is a holistic solution there are no side effects, unlike all the "chemical" treatments of the medical community.

I'm so happy that you found something that makes you feel better, and no meds-awesome:)
ReplyThanks. In general in addition to the fresh lemon water, I try to have mostly a plant food diet to keep on the alkaline side.
ReplyI wouldn't dispute what works for you, but something's amiss here: lemon and lime juice are highly *acidic*, not alkaline.
ReplyThey are acidic fruits that have an alkaline effect on the body. For the poster, adding a teaspoon of aluminum free baking soda a couple times of day with further balance the ph in your body as well. Happy Health!
Replylemon is an acid but once it is digested it turns into an alkaloid. alkaline ash
ReplyActually lemon and lime are very, very, alkaline. Do the research. The Ph level is what makes something acidic or alkaline.
ReplyDo you also avoid soda/pop? Lemons and limes contain citric acid (pH 2 to 3), which is also a key ingredient in many sodas. To state that citric acid has "an alkaline effect on the body" makes no sense. Can you cite your sources for this information?
ReplyPerhaps you could point out exactly where the transformation from citric acid (which has notable benefits on it's own) to alkali takes place?
And remember, not all doctors and researchers are out to get you or your money.
There is very much reporting that lemons, limes, and citric acid generally, although they are "acidic", they are alkalizing in the body.
Do a little research.
ReplyLemon in the body is the most alkaline food available. Outside of the body, very acidic.

ReplyIn addition to an alkaline diet, I also 2x daily use pulmozyne and xopenex. I believe a daily combination of medicines with an alkaline diet is the most beneficial for my case. However, the suggested daily azithromycin did nothing but create tintinitis (sp) and seemed to weaken my immune system. Also the saline solution bloated me terribly and this is also given as a a part of the regimine-Both of which I no longer take. I am concerned that so many children are given these drugs and they can't complain of the above. But as I know, as 4 of my brothers and sisters also have CF, this disease manifests uniquely in each individual. Why don't the doctors ask the patients more what they think works instead of a primarily top-down approach? I think more holistic solutions would be more widely disseminated for all ages of CF. Even the 2-week "tune up" exposes patients to all kinds of germs in the hospital, whereas the home pump (bulb) at home is simple and easy without the depression and danger of being in the hospital.
A long time CFer feeling pretty good.
ReplyActually, if you look up alkaline diet on the internet, you will find they absolutely do include lemon and lime juices as having an ALKALINE effect on the body once metabolized! We dont always know what we think we do, huh?
ReplyCongratulations on your success...
You should look into Kangen Water by Enagic. It produces alkaline water from your tap, and is far more effective than adding lemon juice to your water. It has been shown to have great impact on people's health.
ReplyI can also vouch for Kangen water systems! Not only do they help with CF but cancer and other degenerative disease, even aging, as well. I did not believe it until I experienced it myself. I don't sell them I just swear by them!
ReplyHey
Great to see so many people here who are clued up on the alkaline diet and who are actively seeking answers by living this way.
I've been blogging on this subject for nearly six years now and it is amazing to see how far it has come!
Good on you all!

Hi Mary Sampson,
my daughter is 12 with CF and we are trying to come up with a alkaline diet plan. Would you be willing to talk to her?
