I am 5'3", age 18, and weigh around 116Ibs. I used to be 109Ibs at one point because I barely ate, and exercised a lot. But, then I moved and my dad keeps a lot of sugary foods in the house, so I started binge eating. Then the next day I would begin my low calorie diet again (usually 700 calories per day).
I would go to the gym everyday, but found it difficult to lose weight, weighing round 117Ibs. I know it's not fat, but when you're short and have a body anxiety problem it can make you look/feel a lot more curvy.
But, to help everyone on here, trust me I have tried a lot of things, starving yourself is not the answer.
I used to eat such low calorie foods, and okay it worked, but I would be so tired. I have passed out before, my blood pressure would take sudden drops, I would get panic attacks, and my heart would race. Don't do like I did, because later on it gets even worse. Then you will probably start binge eating like I did, and the next day you feel so bad.
Seriously, eating healthy meals with a snack in between, and not eating late will help you to lose weight.
- Don't eat sugar, or anything white
- Only drink water
- Eat whole wheat bread
- Eat fish (don't cook with butter)
- Eat lots of fruits and veggies
- If you love sweet food, Atkins bars are good, because you'll feel like you've had something sweet
For a work out you just need to go walking on the treadmill, trust me it works. I also did cycling, but I felt like it didn't work as good.
So, girls listen to me when I say don't starve yourself. I am one of the most body conscious people there is, and it sucks, it can take over your life, and just gets worse.
So, my advice is to just eat healthy instead!

Health-first is the only way to go!
ReplyOf course many of you knew I would comment on this.
Most of this post is garbage. The usual pseudo-scientific diet mythology that continues to thrive because people are dumb.
There's nothing wrong with eating sugar. There's nothing wrong with eating "anything white".
You can drink pop, water, vodka, lemonade, whatever.
You can eat whole wheat bread if you want, but you don't have to.
You can cook with butter.
You can enjoy sweets. Candy. Pie. Cake. Anything.
There are no magic foods. Likewise there are no evil foods. There are no foods that will keep you fat. There are no foods that will make you lose weight.
The only thing that matters is calories in, calories out. Are you burning more calories than you are taking in?
There are advantages for some people to following a low glycemic diet, especially when it comes to satiety and cravings, but nothing is written in stone. I happen to do quite well on both low and high carbohydrate diets and for me the source of the carbohydrates does not matter much.
The only legitimate advice here is that you should not starve yourself, and you should eat fish if you like fish, or supplement with fish oil every day.
Eating "healthy" is a good idea because it's good for you, not because it will help you lose weight. It won't. Eat healthy foods, and enjoy some junk in moderation. Don't buy into this sort of zealotry that says you can't do this, or you must do that. Almost all of it is garbage.
ReplyYou know, speaking for myself, I don't have a problem with many of the ideas you post, but the way you post them. I disagree with you, but I think a lot of people are wrong. You don't allow for discussion in your comments. You are right and everyone else is wrong, that's the way your tone always is and that's why you get on everyone's nerves. She's sharing her experience, just as you always insist on doing. If you're allowed to do so and believe you're right, then so should she.
ReplyBarry you have totally missed the point of this post! This is a very young woman that has had the strength to overcome an eating disorder and is offering sound advice to other young women about how to avoid becoming trapped in a horribly destructive and life threatening disease! She should be applauded for being strong, healthy and intelligent person with a beautiful compassion for her peers.
Thank you for natal for bravely offering your story and experience!! You advice is greatly appreciated!
ReplyBarry if you wish to mention your site, you can do this by registering on Diet Blog and putting the URL in the space provided.
ReplyYoure right Barry. And I agree with your attitude. Because I too have little patience with STUPID/IGNORANT people. They just take it too personally and nice people are too offended for no reason. Where are the backbones in people today?? I understand what your saying. All of you need to understand that BARRY is being compassionate toward people that love life and want to enjoy it without the FEAR/ANXIETY and whatever that this girl is going through. OBVIOUSLY her parents did this to her. Her mother is probably a ocd MILF, going through her midlife crisis trieng to be young and beatiful again by losing weight and her father is a lazy, gluttonous, carefree sloth that doesnt encourage her daughter to love herself because he hates his life. Baisically , live life, dont fear, and be free. Live this way for your children. Pass it down for generations.
Replynatal, your main point is a good one and quite valid: Don't starve yourself.
Thanks for sharing this hard-won insight. It takes too long for some people to learn that lesson. Your post will speed up the learning curve.
ReplyWay to go! Great post. I totally agree with you, eating whole foods does help your body to feel healthy and strong.
ReplyFully agree with this. The less you try to eat and the more you try to restrict what you eat, the more you will want to binge. Good for you for conquering both the binging and the restricting.
ReplyI think this is a first, but I actually agree with Barry here 100%. I think the girl is on the right track, but these absolutes really are based on nothing but emotion and pseudo-science. But not bad for an 18 year old.
ReplyBarry out of everything you said the only thing that I agree with is "The only thing that matters is calories in, calories out." This is a true statement however there is more that goes into it.
Other than that it is good that she posted her story and she is stressing to young girls to learn from her mistake on what she did in the past with her weight issues. That being said this is based on her own journey and what works for her and it might not work for others but is sure can help young people to know they are not alone.
ReplyI agree. It's all about accountability to the only person who counts: you. Platkin believes that losing weight is not about willpower, or just dieting or ...

ReplySince when is 116-117 lbs at 5'3" overweight? Plus you are not short, 5'4" is the average female height.
natal1a990 you need some help to see your body as it is. I am 5'4", when I was 19-20 years old, I was down to 110 lbs. I thought I looked fantastic. Now, years later, I cringe at pictures of me from that time. I don't look good, I look scrawny and ugly. (I have been about 15 lbs heavier, for many years and am healthier and look way better.) Your current weight sounds really good to me - stay there.
ReplyCongrats to you natal 1a990 for realizing that trying to starve yourself is not the answer!
ReplyThis is one of the most effective strategies I know of to avoid unwanted junk and various snacks from finding their way into your shopping cart, which ends up in your home, which ends up on your butt! Make sure to eat something before you go food shopping and you will be able to resist the junk that often finds its way into your cart.
