How Many People Read Nutritional Info at Restaurants?

Vote 2 Votes
STUDY: Out of 4311 patrons (visiting either McDonald's, Burger King, Starbucks, and Au Bon Pain), guess how many checked nutrition info...?

6

That's 0.1% of patrons.

Who checks nutritional info before buying? Anyone?

  • I almost always check. Most of the time I will check online before I go. I have been on WW for ten years, so I always count points in my head.

  • I almost never check them at the restaurant because I figure it'll be too much of a hassle BUT that's why I check them on the website before I decide where I'll go and what I'll get. For instance, I know my non-fat no-whip Mocha at Starbucks will cost me about 220 calories.

  • Never check nutritional info at a restaurant... and don't usually eat a fast food places (I refuse to call them restaurants). I am usually fairly careful with what I order - grilled fish or chicken, salad with little or no dressing etc - unless it is for a really special occassion in which case I just decide to live a little...

  • I usually check the info before I go, and have a plan as to what I'm buying - this is for all chain restaurants.

Other times, if I'm going for Fish and Chips, well, I peel the batter off the fish, and eat the fish only.

One time I had to stop at a Wendys cause I was STARVING, and bought a fish burger. That was it, a fishburger and water. It tasted awesome. I savored it then went home later that night and about died at the calorie count.

  • I always check the nutritional info in a grocery store when I'm looking a new products or comparing items.

I rarely go to fast food places, but when I do, I think I am pretty knowledgable about the nutrition level of their menu. I make my choices at Subway for example, based on the nutrition info. Other joints, like McD's, are a different story. It seems that its only when I'm sitting down and eating whatever I 'thought' was a healthy(er) option, that I browse through the info brochure (if it's a available).

I consider myself pretty label-savvy, so if I rarely read them, I can't imagine that the typical, fast food-goer ever does!

  • If I go, I eat and enjoy what I eat. If I feel bloated later, then I'll check online to get an estimate of what I inhaled. I love fast food. Those dollar menus make it worthwhile. There's nothing like a couple McDoubles and a McChicken sandwich to put a put a sparkle in my eye. Taco Bell has a great dollar selection too. Thank God for the economic downturn to make these places worth the trip!

I do! But not at the store. I do it online before I get there. Taco Bell has a dollar menu now? I haven't been there since their burritos made my whole family barf a couple years ago.

  • Well I don't eat at fast food restaurants, and frankly don't think I've ever seen a restaurant that does show calories. But I have on the airlines which I usually check. Usually i would have chosen the lower of the options anyway - but when the higher calorie option was really what I wanted, I would have gone ahead and chosen it anyway. For me, life isn't all about calories.

  • For any restaurant, I check out the nutritional info on the website before going. It's not just calories or fat I'm worried about, but hydrogenated oils too. I was disappointed to see partially hydrogenated oil listed as an ingredient in one of my favorite Paneral bagels!

I am not a fast food person but my hubby is.. if it is available while I am sitting with him, I read it but I am a label reader in general. I read labels everywhere I go not only to see what I am eating but just out of curiosity.

I don't eat at fast food restaurants, but when I eat out, I usually choose a salad with grilled chicken, no cheese, and the dressing on the side. So it's generally pretty "safe"...I am very leery of salads with tons of cheese, fried chicken, etc. on them because they usually have upwards of 1000 calories in them.

  • This doesn't seem the place to ask a question like this. Most people here care about what they eat and watch where they eat. They are also more likely to know roughly what is good and what is bad.

Just a few thoughts. I like the super foods plan myself and their new yawn diet! yawndiet.com

I don't think I eat at any restaurants that have calorie counts. I don't eat fast food, only sushi, burritos, and the occasional random brewpub or such.
