  I think this makes perfect sense. Some of these countries provide free medical care and America doesn't. Ok, a high percentage of health problems are caused by obesity. Now, how else would America's cardiologists, pharmacutical companies, weight loss companies, etc, etc get paid? By these countries eliminating the obese, they cut back on medical costs(which are free). Your welcome for the reality check....

  Unfortunately this is all too painfully true. I've got a job offer in New Zealand, and applied to get my job visa which should be no problem. I go to the gym a lot - about 3-4 times a week. I have normal blood pressure, cholesterol and do not have diabetes. I've worked hard to drop my BMI from 39.0 to 35.37 I've just been told today that my visa is being rejected simply due to that BMI figure being .37 over their magic number of 35.0...

  Absolutely. The term "binge" is far overused, and that overuse is in itself offensive to someone who truly suffers from a disorder involving binging. A binge is not consuming 500 calories in crackers because you were hungry, that's overeating because you let yourself get too hungry. In my experience, binging may start out to satisfy hunger, but it often does not. A binge is eating the whole box of crackers, then going back for more because you need to not feel something and once you've started eating, you're sucked into the numbness eating provides....

  I love all these varied opinions. I've tried it all and find what works best for me is having three calorie-controlled, balanced meals that add up to 1200-1400 calories per day, which includes a very small dessert. I love sweets and don't want to deprive myself, so I don't, buy my dessert portion is usually about half the size of the palm of my hand - and the calories are included in my total for the day. I have really learned to slow down and savor every bite....

  I agree with Arlo. I've been following the Zone diet and lifestyle for about 15 years. It's based on hormonal control and lowering inflammation. This is achieved in the Zone by eating a balance of lean protein (animal or veggie), carb (mostly from fruits and veggies, and a dash of monounsaturated fat at every meal and snack. This provides satiety throughout the entire day, plus a constant supply of the macronutrients the body needs to function at its best and stay lean at the same time. It's inherently a calorie restricted way of eating without needing to place your focus...
