Jonnie on On-Off Fasting: Does It Work? - November 20 9:23PM

I can't even skip breakfast without scruffling down a gigantic meal at dinner. I guess it varies from person to person. For me, this definitely wouldn't work.

Spectra on On-Off Fasting: Does It Work? - November 20 4:36PM

Flo, that's very similar to the "warrior" method I was talking about. You do eat every day but you go 24 hours between meals. The trick is to make sure your meal is full of very nutritious foods, not just ice cream and pizza. Because I've known people that eat only once a day...they go all day with no food and then binge on crap at night. Those are the stereotypical people that are the ones that "shouldn't eat at night" or whatever.

jameseyboyinitbrapz. on Six Pack Abs: Reality Check - November 20 3:27PM

a 10 mile run is not interval training. interval training is short burst high intensity training with breaks which is repeated 3-5 times in one session, long distance running and jogging will help you in the short term but when you get to around 12 percent body fat you will need too run ridiculous lengths to achieve a six pack. This is due to the body becomming more efficient at burning fat and thus it will burn less fat which means you will need to do more cardio too burn the same amount of calories. Interval training is a much more effective method then regular aerobic cardio and increases the metabolic rate far further and quicker then any regular exercise will.

Flo on On-Off Fasting: Does It Work? - November 20 3:15PM

I've done this type of fasting and the way I've done it is you never go a full day without food. You eat dinner at 7pm then don't eat until 7pm the next day. I found that not only did I not get hungry when not eating, I didn't get cranky or sleepy or jittery, my blood sugar didn't get wacky and I really felt quite energetic.

I agree with Spectra, animals are intermittent eaters. Some wild animals will go days without food between kills. Where did the idea come from that we humans have to eat 3 meals a day??

Jameseyboyinitbrapz. on Six Pack Abs: Reality Check - November 20 3:13PM

that has to be the most idiotic advice i have ever seen you are suggesting that only muscle building exercise is necessary to gain abdominal definition which is totally untrue. also that idea has to be flawed it is a well known fact that the best way to build muscle in body building is too superset which means working one muscle then the opposite set of muscles with a short or no break in between for abs this would be upper then lower or right obliques then left obliques with hours of rest in between that's pointless. Also you have no exercise in that plan for lower abs so you will never be able to obtain a proper 6 or 8 pack only a 4 pack at the very most even with a lower body fat percentage and proper diet.

Jameseyladinitbrapz. on Six Pack Abs: Reality Check - November 20 3:02PM

it's actually around 7-8 percent bodyfat for a defined 6 pack set of abs dieting will get you down to between 10-12 percent usually the best way to get down to below that is too speed up the metabolism through interval training aswell as maintaining a low saturated fat diet with plenty of protein and carbohydrates cutting out fatty dairy products especially things like margarine which contain a high proportion of transfats these definately will not help you. It's also important to keep yourself well hydrated drinking around 2 litres of water a day. Also whatever anyone tells you suppliments such as diet pills and energy drinks ( probably the worst thing you could ever consume) will not help you and most likely negatively effect you. Finally this total bullshit about "genetics" yes some people genetically will have more athletic physiques. However, this does not prevent anyone from achieving a well toned and healthy physique themselves with true dedication anything is possible, if you hadn't noticed the people complaing about genetics are the fat lazy slobs who are looking for a reason to excuse their obesity. Good look people :)

TonyK on 400 Calorie Fix - November 20 1:57PM

Most diets are just ways to fool people into eating less anyway... Intermittent fasting, Paleo, Warrior, Atkins, South Beach, etc.

It's nice to see a diet whose principles are based on the actual dynamics behind weight loss instead of some mysterious, secret macro-breakdown or nutrient partitioning via manipulation of your body's p-ratio, blah blah blah. Having this kind of flexibility will lead to a greater rate of success in people sticking to the diet.

Spectra on On-Off Fasting: Does It Work? - November 20 1:02PM

I wonder how similar this is to eating "warrior style", where you eat 100% of your calories at once and then just don't eat the rest of the day. In a sense, that's almost the same thing...you're fasting for almost 24 hours and then eating again. I've eaten warrior-style before and it's odd because you don't get hungry between your "meals". When I ate that way, my LDL numbers and blood pressure numbers were excellent, so maybe there is something to the whole intermittent fasting thing.

If you think about it, most animals are intermittent fasters. They eat when they can and sometimes go one or two days with no food.

Kellie - My Health Software on On-Off Fasting: Does It Work? - November 20 12:08PM

I can get pretty cranky when I'm hungry. Not sure how I would function at work and with my children on those fast days.

Kellie - My Health Software on Lola: The Weight Loss Chocolate - November 20 12:05PM

I'm interested for Australia! :)

Jody - Fit at 52 on On-Off Fasting: Does It Work? - November 20 11:36AM

I know someone that does this & swears by & it & has the results both physically & doctor wise to prove it. I don't know enough about it & not sure I would do it. Will have to read more about it.

KL on Portion Size: Then and Now - November 20 9:26AM

I just recently began eating meat again after 11 years. I got a grilled chicken sandwich from Burger King and the thing looked the size of a football to me! I couldn't finish it and thought no wonder everyone is so obese if this is considered a normal sized sandwich.

botgurl on 400 Calorie Fix - November 20 8:05AM

I can see where both Spectra and O. are coming from.

I have not seen the book but I think it might appeal to someone who is not ready to make only occasional visits to McDonalds.

Some people prefer portion control because they might not have to make drastic changes to their current diet. For example if they want to go to McDonalds every day for breakfast.

Ann on On-Off Fasting: Does It Work? - November 20 6:38AM

I have done one-day fasts occasionally (religious) and I've always found it's a lot easier to stay away from all food for a day than to try to cut my portions. Basically, you're cutting calories, but instead of cutting your calories in half every day, you cut out all your calories every other day ... I might think going with something like every third day might have similar benefits, but be a little easier to manage.

therat on The 7 Most Sugar Filled Drinks - November 20 1:09AM

so? If someone likes to drink sugar filled soda pop let them it's their god given right. I drink nothing but Code Red mountain dew and I'm in excellent health. Never been to a doctor in my life, maintain a healthy weight, rarely get sick, don't have diabetes, and still have most of my teeth in tact, I have 2 that need fillings but other than that no ill effects.

I don't buy all the sugar is bad for you hype. People who get fat have a lot more wrong with their diet than too much sugar. There is this thing called exorcise and if you exorcise you and drink lots of water to balance things out you can still enjoy all the soda your heart desires and stay healthy.

I mean yeah if you drink too much sugary sodas and don't get any water, don't exorcise and don't right otherwise then yeah your bound to develop health problems but out of all the members of my family I am the healthiest and like I drink 3 to 5 20oz Code Reds a day. But I also work a physical job and usually don't eat a lot of junk food either.

Spectra on 400 Calorie Fix - November 19 6:45PM

Ok, I'm not trying to villainize Oreos or anything...it's ultimately all about calories. And if you love Oreos, it's great Liz shows people how to eat them so you can still lose weight. Like, eat 2 Oreos not 8 of them. I was just trying to clarify that the plan doesn't focus on certain foods or nutrient ratios; it focuses more on portion control.

Best Diet Pills on Antioxidants: Bad for Diabetics? - November 19 6:35PM

Taking healthy food is the best way. I stopped taking pills a long time ago... Vitamins, Fish Oil, ...EVERYTHING.

O. on 400 Calorie Fix - November 19 3:58PM

I just saw your comment Spectra :)

It kind of sounds like you don't believe moderation followers are really eating healthy.

I can't speak for all moderation diet followers, but I can explain an example of what I do.

Yes I eat healthy. That is what I call the BASIS of my diet, or my day in day out regular way of eating.

I probably eat some of the say things you do. I love soy milk, Kashi brand foods, Amy's vegetarian entrees, I diligently eat freash steamed veggies, fresh fruit, and so forth.

BUT, I do have a "meal off" Usually once every 2 weeks, where I eat whatever I like. It "calms" that other side of myself, and in the long run keeps me on track.

I addition some of my "basis" meals are "normal food" but portion controled. Like I go to KFC, get one chicken breast, bring it home and have it with some steamed veggies.

O. on 400 Calorie Fix - November 19 3:46PM

Wow! I just got done watching Rachael's show a half hour ago, and I am usually not watching tv at this time of day. Glad I caught this.

I totally loved Liz today. The thing that really stuck in my head is when she was talking about the lady who was trying out the plan and Liz said "She can still have Oreo's and milk with her kids."

I don't know if Liz is a dietitian , but Liz get's "it".
She gets us food lovers.

While never having a personal session with a nutritionist, I have tried to follow the general advice they give on tv and in magazines, and I swear it made me yo yo for years.

The "moderation not deprivation" method is what works for some people. And while some long term weight loosers have sworn off certain foods, nutritonists need to realize that the some people can't be scared into never going to McDonalds again. But that doesn't mean they can't live a healthier lifestyle.

Kristi on How To: Quit Drinking Coffee - November 19 3:42PM

I gave up coffee when I was experiencing some bad anxiety. It was hard, but my emotional health was at stake. Lo and behold, I lost 25 lbs. without even trying! Mostly because I didn't get as hungry between meals. After my mood stabilized, I started drinking coffee again. Now I notice that my food cravings in the afternoon and evening are almost impossible to ignore. So I snack. And I'm gaining some of the weight back. I'm going to go off coffee again--this time for good.

Spectra on 400 Calorie Fix - November 19 3:38PM

From what I saw on the show, it's a plan that's mostly about portion control rather than eating specific foods. She mentioned that you can "eat Oreos and milk with your kids as one of your 400 calorie meals". I think it's more geared toward people that don't want to change WHAT they eat; just how much.

Lana on Lola: The Weight Loss Chocolate - November 19 3:23PM

Spectra on 5 Factor World Diet - November 19 1:54PM

I'm not so sure being Jessica Simpson's personal trainer is something to be exactly proud about. She's kind of the prime example of a yo-yo dieter.

Spectra on 400 Calorie Fix - November 19 1:46PM

Actually, she was on Rachael Ray today and said you're supposed to eat 4 400-calorie meals a day for a total of 1600 calories, which is very reasonable for a woman who isn't terribly active. I would think it'd be easy to add a few calories here and there if you're more active. It seems like a pretty sane plan, especially if you are one of those people that eats sporadically all day long and doesn't really get a sense of when they are full.

Jay on The Biggest Loser: Where Are They Now? - November 19 10:25AM

Actually Julia, your comment is the one that is silly. She is spot on. I dont care how fast you lose weight. If you gain it all back its because you eat to much, nothing else.

Jay on The Biggest Loser: Where Are They Now? - November 19 10:22AM

Yes, lets make this clear for everyone, If you gain 90 lbs under any circumstance, than you EAT TOO MUCH FOOD. People can blame the biggest loser all they want. To imply that the large amounts of weight lost is "mostly water weight" is flat out wrong.

anon on Hollywood: "Honey I Shrunk the Actress" - November 19 10:15AM

My boyfriend LOVES my curves, and so do I. I also work out 5X/week and eat healthy food, but I'm not a size 2,4, or 6. Love living, not obsessing. My education and vocation gives me confidence, not my jeans size. Don't forget kids, life lasts 80+ years, and I can say that when you get older your size 2 is what brings you to the ER with compression fractures in your spine and hip fractures... People love you when you love yourself!

Burt on The Biggest Loser: Where Are They Now? - November 19 7:11AM

I agree, you dont gain the weight back fast if you lose it fast, im proof of that. The majority of weight loss is water weight but also fat loss and muscle gain, it all factors in together. Gaining weight back is ONLY from lack of exercise and eating fatty foods.... period.... you must stay disciplined and have the wilpower to live healthy, if not you will fail at your weight loss.

Ann on Quick Giveaway: Powerhouse Weight Loss Game - November 19 6:52AM

This looks like a great way to get the whole family involved with working out - they can cheer you on, and then maybe you get a little rest while you cheer for someone else. You can even do it in teams.
