Hello
I am living in Canada and looking for Camel milk. Any help
Being around different races doesn't bring everyone's height down..... Please think before you post =D
walkerlori - that's fabulous! I've experienced the same thing, too. I've had the same revelation. Sometimes I eat more but can't stand the stuffed feeling either. I've lost a big chunk and taken a break, but ready to do the rest now. I saw your post on the forum and it's great. My friend knows someone who just had gastric bypass surgery and she can't eat anything...just drinks protein shakes right now and has dropped a ton of weight already. But I'd much rather do it this way. I heard about an interesting study yesterday on the radio that being overweight is "contagious..." which I believe. If your circle of friends/family is overweight, you'll tend to be, too. It also works the other way -- if you are losing weight you positively affect everyone around you. I want to be that positive force.
I played DDR for 4 days a week, when I was younger and it helped me lose, 40lbs, the good thing about Workout mode, is you can boost it up to difficult and even if you suck, the more you try and hit the notes, the more calories you lose, and it Keeps going unlike game mode after the bar on top is gone.
FOR EVERYONE ELSE, DRINK LOTS OF WATER AND IT WONT BE SO BAD! That's what is bothering you! That much fiber can cause discomfort but as long as you drink plenty of water it will promote regularity and aid in digestion, minus the pain.
I've tried intuitive eating on and off for awhile; most recently for nearly the past two months. It was very liberating to just eat when and what I wanted to and to stop when I was satisfied. No calorie counting; not even any portion control--just being in tune enough with my body to know that I wanted to eat and then asking myself what I wanted. I also kicked emotional eating to the curb and didn't even think about food unless my body told me, "Time to eat something". Problem was, I became such a terribly junky eater. I had nary any fruits or vegetables in my diet, and it took four brownies to satisfy my sweet cravings after dinner. I eventually became fed up with how unhealthy I was naturally eating, and concerned for my health in the long run..so I decided that I needed to make a conscious effort to make better food choices. Unfortunately, the mere thought of that triggered a diet mentality in me and let my previously dormant ED loose..and I wasn't even thinking in terms of having to eat low-fat foods or counting calories..so I don't get it. :( It's crazy that I can't even think of eating more balanced and healthy meals without it unleashing self-destructive behaviors and attitudes within me.
Anyway, that said, I understand the importance of intuitive eating and not dieting..but I also understand the importance of making conscious food choices. I agree with Shannon and others 100%..if your palate is used to certain foods, it's not gonna just happen that you will automatically choose "better" foods overnight..so rather than wait for that to happen (if and when it ever does), your best bet is to make healthy changes you can live with CONSCIOUSLY. My plan is to incorporate a fruit or vegetable at every meal and to keep snacks more nutritious and healthy (protein, fruit and veggies). And when it comes to desserts, to practice portion control because I have a big sweet tooth and will just keep eating too much.
It's hard, very hard..because how do you eat intuitively and yet honor your health? If you have to make conscious healthier choices, even if you're not eating low-fat or counting carbs and calories, just the fact that you try to focus on balance and structure in your eating, does that reek, in itself, of a diet in disguise???
So, my personal journey continues..and I just hope that I manage to somehow get it right. I wish everyone else much luck on their own personal journey.
Hi Diane, I was wondering the same thing. I'm glad to see it is still live.
I began the Rosedale Diet on Mon this week. June 29/09
I woke up Thurs, 3 days later, and had lost 7 lbs. I started crying before I even got off of the scales. I just couldn't believe it. My husband thought something bad had happened. LOL.
Here is why it is so amazing. I have been trying to loose weight for 6 yrs. I never, ever eat junk food, no sugar at all, no flower. No processed foods, no sweet drinks, only water. when I would go out to eat I would always get salad and water.
I have been on so many very restrictive diets, and I just can't loose the weight. It's not that I can't keep it off, I can't loose it to begin with.
I have been thin my entire life. I'm 50 now and I was 167 lbs on Mon, that is what I've been staying at. Thursday morning I woke up and weighed 160lbs.
But mind you after having all three of my boys I weighed 103.They are now 29,24,19.
When I was 38 I weighed 123. However, when I got into my mid 40's the weight kept piling on, and I've been on one diet after another.
Last year I went on the Geno, eat right for you blood type diet. I never cheated, I walked 28 miles per week. 2 miles each morning and 2 each evening, on very hilly terrain, with walking sticks that burn 40 % more calories then walking without them. Finally after 3 months I had only lost 12 lbs. I was so frustrated, and sick of eating food that I didn't like.
I have bad genetics, for obesity. My Mother was well over 400 lbs and died at 43. Everybody in my family has obesity along with all the diseases Dr. Rosedale talks about.
I'm so desperate to get the weight off to try to prevent the family history of diabetes, high blood pressure etc.
So this 7 lbs loss in 3 days is amazing. A lot of the things on the Rosedale Diet I was already doing. As far as the nuts, olive oil and avacodos. Salads, no junk food, no milk etc.
The main thing I've changed is, I don't' get hungry in the evening, I used to starve all evening long, and then end up eating late at night. It would be a healthy food, never the less, I was eating late.
Yesterday ( Thursday)I ate a late lunch, 3:00 pm and just didn't get hungry all evening long so I didn't eat any dinner.
So I've stopped eating late, I exercised after the last meal instead of in the morning, and I've cut out the carbs, brown rice, sweet potatoes, fruit, rice cakes etc.
I will forever be thankful to Dr. Rosedale. I will stick to this diet for life. For health.
Good Luck to you!!
Vicky
I just read your comment and I just wanted to say thank you for being so understanding of what plus size women have to go through to get clothing. I am sure your wife really appreciates the support!! Great Guy!
Something else that Old Navy may not be taking into consideration is this....
Us plus size moms shop at stores that we enjoy. If we find clothing that is in our size that we like, chances are that we will also be picking up other items for our family at that very same store.
So yes maybe our clothes take up a little more room, and don't sell as fast; however how much revenue are we bringing into your other departments? I buy my three children, and my husbands clothes partially at Old Navy, but after they have taken the plus size section out, I will not. Maybe they should have advertised a little more to let people know that they carry pluse size clothes. Honestly I only found out because a friend told me. Most of us plus size people have become used to the fact that our name brands that we love do not carry our sizes. If more women knew, their revenue would go up.
Shame on you OLD NAVY....you didn't put enough effort, and gave in too fast.
dear andrea. i have a slim fast for breakfast and one for dinner. then for supper one day i will have a small hamburger cooked on the joe foreman grill on low calorie hamburger burns, then the next day repeat breakfast and lunch , and for supper i have a few skinny slices of chicken from the deli on two 35 calories pieces of bread with a little dab of light mayo. i alternate my food. i am with the slim fast never get hungry. andrea, please answer me ok?
Very interesting review & like how you make certain points as discussed above by other readers. This paragraph:
society's desire for being, or witnessing, larger than life figures is eye-opening. It really keys in on some of the most pressing issues in the culture of body building and the pursuit of aesthetics, performance and beauty.
This is such a curse in many ways too & in entertainment & other areas as well. As much as I am sooooooooooooooooooo tired of the Michael Jackson stuff, this really shows how fame & people "hooking" on to fame can be such a horrible things all around! Plus people's need to do anything to win or be famous.
It's not "stupid" if moderation is the problem to begin with. That's one of the main points Reinhard makes in his book; people aren't fat because of genetics or carbs, but because they eat too much food. This is simply a framework for rediscovering moderation, which our entire generation seems to have lost. As someone who was trained to overeat by my morbidly obese mother, I'm finding the No S diet to be the one thing that is finally breaking the pattern of dieting for a while and then going completely off the rails.
I agree that people should learn how to eat reasonable amounts of food; the No S diet is a simple, powerful way for people to learn how to do that. If you don't need something like this, I'm very happy for you--but as someone who most definitely does, I'm grateful to have found it.
Yeah, that's what I was wondering. What is low fat butter?
I'm back again.
I stepped on the scale this morning and am down to 135 lbs. Thats 2 lbs in 3 days and I'm a happy camper!
great review, Mike!
Very thorough review! The Tiger Woods thing is an interesting point of view. I never looked at it that way and I suspect that others haven't either. Just the word steroids is scary to me. I've personally seen how taking steroids has lead to the downfall of certain individuals. Maybe it was due to their "abuse" of them. I don't know. But for anyone thinking of turning to steroids for whatever reason, i say "PROCEED WITH EXTREME CAUTION".
What a well written post. We don't get to read balanced stuff like this much in the diet-fat-sphere.
I have never taken steroids or have had them offered or seen them. Mind you I am not American but suspect most Americans have the same experience.
Issues like this will become more common in the future.
Cheers
You had me at #1. I was sedentary all my life. I scoffed at those hyper people who always seemed to need motion. What is their problem?? Give me a chair and a book any day. But you know what, I never successfully lost weight until I started swimming laps 5 years ago. Now, 30 pounds down, I still have to force myself to do my laps. But, you know what, it works so I do it.
Want to hear the biggest myth of all. Here it is.
"I can't do it".
I've bashed that one many many times.
Fat free mass is the greatest indicator in one’s metabolism, with very few people having significantly different metabolisms given their amount of lean body mass. However, the range of activity in metabolism can vary between 28 and 42 Calories per kilogram of fat free mass in a 24 hour period. This equates to 13 to 19 Calories per pound of fat free mass per day burned at rest - (Pi-Sunye- study reported in the Obesity Research Journal in 2002) I believe part of the differences in the activity are metabolic changes based on WHAT you eat (on a Calorie counting diet, I reduced severely and had trouble losing weight, now with my number of Calories per day increased, no problem with weight.)
Even still 13-19, the difference of those with the FASTEST metabolisms and the SLOWEST metabolisms (and those are outliers, not the 95% of people who are at he same) in a woman with 100 lb fat free mass is only 600 Calories a day... not much between those who burn the most and those who burn the least, with most people being far closer. Realistically, studies have not supported the claims of people who say they have slow metabolisms... often the more overweight have higher metabolism, partially due to higher lean body mass from carrying around extra weight.
If you feel you have a slow metabolism, you're best off trying to build muscle than complaining (because that doesn't help anything). And beyond that, eating clean-- cutting out processed foods... that worked for me.
Sedentary lifestyles actually are making us live longer. We don't have to hunt, work in factories, farm, fight, etc. as much, which were major causes of injury and death through time.
I started out as a skeptic and have become a believer.
In May I was on 5 bites for about 3 weeks. I lost about 13 lbs, going from 149 to 136.
Even though the plan was working,I was concerned that my metabolism would slow down and when I ate larger portions, the weight would return.
Also, as I mentioned in an earlier post, Dr Lewis's toughlove, no nonsence approach was hard for me to take (I was being a big baby).
So I stopped watching my portions and counting my bites.
Much to my surprise, eating big portions wasn't as much fun as it once was. I didn't like the feeling of being stuffed anymore. And I couldn't get Dr Lewis's voice out of my head, especially when he says "What's so great about all those extra bites of food. Was the sixth bite of pasta better than the first?"
If I would have stuck to the plan,I would have been at goal weight by July 4th.
Here's the good news.I weighed myself yesterday and only gained 1 pound, I'm at 137. Even with about 3 weeks of being off the diet, I didn't regain the weight.
I'm an official 5 Bite fan, I'm commiting to following it until I get to goal.
I also need to go to Dr Lewis's website and thank him!
#1 isn't a myth. You say so in the next sentence.
Exercise is about being healthy. Losing weight is primarily about eating less -- less than you were eating, or less than you would eat, but mostly less than the amount you'd eat and maintain or increase your weight.
I could exercise 6 hours a day and get fatter.
The US is on top because of the munchies americans get from smoking alot of marijuana
Uh, hate to burst your little theory, but the truth is that someone with a "slow" metabolism probably only burns about 200 calories a day fewer than someone with a "fast" metabolism. Metabolisms vary, but not to a huge degree; definitely not to the degree that people believe they do. Most members of my family are overweight and they all just say they're "big boned" and have slow metabolisms. Truth is, none of them exercise and they all eat too much. You can increase your metabolism by building your muscle mass up. My husband used to have a screaming fast metabolism back when he was very active and had a lot of muscle mass. Then he got a desk job and stopped moving around so much and BOOM!, he gained 20 lbs in about 6 months. He never really changed what he ate, but he did lose some muscle mass and so needed fewer calories to maintain his weight.
Laura,
I eat like you do. I am 43 and feel like I am in my twenties!
I stopped eating well for about 8 months (Thought I was too busy to take the time!) My health and over all energy went to hell. Soon as i started eating right again, Bam! Feel fantastic.
This is Retarded!
It is not the fats. Its the processing that is killing Americans. Even the bad food that is pumped out of the factories as "healthy choice".
I love organic unprocessed coconut oil. I cook with it all the time. But I also love olive oil lightly on my salad. Hemp oil on my toast and a variety of other oils. It really depends upon what I am looking for in terms of taste.
I am 43, fit and leaner than most men in their 20's. The secret? Four years ago I started exercising and I stopped eating crappy food and started cooking for myself. I lost forty pounds in six months.
Heavy on the greens, good quality meat and fish and light on the starchy carbs (I love good bread, but I have learned to have a slice or two and not devoure the whole loaf!).
Americans need to stop looking for a easy excuse as to why they are a fat unhealthy lot and start putting more effort into what they consume and moving their bodies.
Same here...if I eat more than 1200 calories a day I balloon up. That includes exercising. I know people that eat like pigs, never watch their calories and don't exercise and have no problems with weight gain.
It's bunk to tell people everyone has the same metabolism. Slow metabolism DOES inhibit weight loss.
I don't see how doing light weight training or something that is much more upper body exercise would be contraindicated. It's a lot less wear and tear on joints.
Once again, there is a difference between five or ten pounds and forty or fifty pounds. Plus, I've noticed people's appetites tend to trend down as they age (this is anecdotal and based on observation, not scientific study), which should compensate for the slowed metabolic rate.
Look, I am 49 years old, I lost 70lbs 3 years ago and have kept it off following very basic guidelines .. YOU CAN lose weight over 40 and keep it off with no gimmicks, pills, berries.
Good Luck to everyone!!
Good post...I agree with most of it, but I must admit that some of them are "myths" that I've never heard of as being true, like that skipping breakfast helps you lose weight. I think it's pretty much been drilled into my head that eating breakfast is good for your weight loss efforts.
The myth that fat people have slow metabolisms does really bother me, though. Fat people actually usually have a HIGHER BMR than thin people because they have more of a body to maintain. Most people with so-called "high metabolisms" really just have a lot of muscle and a high lean body mass. If you compare say, myself with my friend who doesn't work out at all, you'd say that I must have a "high metabolism" because even though we weigh the same, I consume a lot more calories than she does because I'm 15% body fat while she is 24% body fat. Muscle utilizes more energy than fat does to maintain itself, so if you want to have a "high metabolism", start working out and building your muscle mass while losing your fat.
Did you possibly consider the fact that you "just might be detoxifying?" The itching sounds like it could be from your toxicity, and you were beginning to get rid of some of it. Sounds like you bailed out too soon. Chlorophyll is generally natural and is in anything green.
Hey let's rewrite this article with our opinions which are clearly better than fact! ugh....just let it be or write your own damn blog....comments trying to sound smarter than one another make you all sound like MORONS.
You can't tell me that everyone has the same metabolism. There are many really slender people who can't gain weight even if they try. I have more than one friend who eats about three times the calories I do, yet stays stick skinny (and I exercise three times as much as they do).
Hopefully that will improve health for all on this, the government must give force to the health sector, as there are many people who suffer from chronic illnesses and who need help to cover expenses stronger as fibromyalgia, cancer, producing a series very heavy cost to those who suffer as they must take powerful drugs such as oxycodone, Vicodin, Lortab, drugs that are highly controlled and that findrxonline indicate that opioids are very strong and anxiolytics do not know if that can be given life-threatening that consumes, that is why many times the costs are too high to be able to obtain and soothe the intense pain.
I think these are good common sense points to help people. Yes, food is at least 65% of weight loss but exercise & food changes together are proven to help people not only lose weight but keep it off long term. Also, exercise is important for health as well... cardiovascular health & weights fro bone health.
I was reading this same article on another blog & they were discussing how people think fat & muscle are the same.... That muscle turns to fat if you stop exercising. I have been explaining the truth about this for years & still have to tell people that muscle & fat are not the same! Amazing that people still believe this!
I work at a gym, train, and teach classes. I take care to manage my weight and be a role model. I am not a skinny bean pole or overweight. Im a female with a BMI of about 20 and BF about 17% I'm sorry, but I just don't like taking classes from overweight instructors. I once took a pilates class from an overweight instructor and was dissapointed througout the whole class. I kept thinking "if she does this regularly and still looks like that then its not working obviously and its a waste of time". Im much more inspired and motivated by trainers and teachers that are fit. By fit I mean withing BMI and BF% range that would qualify as fit. If I had my own gym I would rather hire people who practice what they preach. I may be the minority but I would rather belong to a gym with role model instructors (not skinny or ripped...but NOT OVERWEIGHT).

Hi Mary - I modified the diet - 15 bites 3x day, about an appetizer portion of food - and it worked for me. I only wanted to lose 10-15 lbs, but my husband lost about 30 on 5 -10 bites 3x day. The key was portion consistency, no snacking and no booze! And getting a new relationship with hungr - that it was a positive sign my body was burning fat and I wasn't going to die. Before I never felt hungry and just ate by the clock or because it was there or I was bored. Hang in there! and happy 4th
