Underweight or Slightly Overweight: Which is Worse?

Many of us know the health risks associated with being overweight or obese - but we're not always aware of how dangerous it can be to be underweight. Crime TV is Making You Fat...

"If it bleeds, it leads." It's an old cliché, but very telling. Just look at the news. The gritty, shocking stories get top billing. TV shows too! LIke COPS, The Shield, and all the CSI's. Americans love blood and guts.

We also LOVE to eat! And now new research claims watching all this death and destruction may actually cause us to consume MORE than we already do.

Eating Disorders: Helping Friends or Yourself

It's not always clear where the line is between a healthy weight-loss diet and an eating disorder. Obesity has met its match. No, not by some miracle cure concocted in a top secret government laboratory. Not even close. One word, Amish!

Researchers recently discovered that the very physically active Amish were NOT affected by obesity genes; that some claim leave people genetically prone to obesity.

Overcoming Toxic Hunger: A Major Cause of Obesity

This is a guest post from Dr Joel Fuhrman MD.

Most people never experience the healthy sensation of feeling hungry. Most of us keep eating to avoid hunger! But actually, feeling hungry is healthy. It directs your body to consume the amount of calories it requires for optimal health and ideal bodyweight.

Hunger, in the true sense of the word, indicates to us that it is time to eat again.

Instead of TRUE hunger, people experience TOXIC hunger--detoxification or withdrawal symptoms that they mistakenly consider hunger.

99.2% of Brits Do Not Eat a Healthy Diet

I suppose we could look on the bright side here; well over 400,000 Brits eat exceptionally well!

These rather unflattering findings are the result of a wide-ranging investigation for the Food Standards Agency's National Diet and Nutrition Survey. The results are based on 5 dietary targets set out by the World Health Organization. Let's look at what criteria they tracked and try and make some sense of it.

How To: Lose Weight By Drinking Less Alcohol

One of the easiest ways to boost your weight loss is to curb your alcohol intake. Not only do alcoholic drinks contain calories, they also tend to increase your appetite and reduce your will-power: a very diet-unfriendly combination!

Even if your social life doesn't revolve around bars and clubs, don't assume it'll be easy for you to drink less: that post-work glass of wine, or the beers on a lazy Sunday afternoon, can be just as hard to give up. But if your weight loss has slowed recently, cutting down on the booze could be just what you need...
