Green Tea Fights Prostate Cancer

Looks like the Siamese cat is out of the bag! Experts have discovered consuming green tea may slow the progression of prostate cancer.

Some suggest great tea has many health benefits, such as halting Alzheimer's disease, reducing the negative effects of cholesterol and preventing cancer. But, these are largely unproven claims.

Worldwide, the tea market is worth roughly $941million, with green tea making up 20% of the total global production. But, with research like this, green tea's intrigue will surely grow.

New Pregnancy Guidelines: Obese Women Should Gain Less Weight

New guidelines have been issued for pregnant women who are obese (BMI 30+) stating they should only gain 11 to 20lbs during the course of their pregnancy.

The old guidelines, developed in 1990, didn't take into account the difference between "overweight" women (BMI 25-30) and "obese" women (BMI 30+). But, due to a rise in obesity levels in the past two decades, health officials guided by the Institute of Medicine and the National Research Council, felt that the guidelines needed updating.

Americans Following Unhealthier Lifestyles Despite Public Campaigns

Analysis of two large-scale studies has shown that Americans today are following less healthy lifestyles than two decades ago - despite an increasing number of public health campaigns.

The Medical University of South Carolina compared the studies, covering the period between 1988 to 2006, and found several indications that lifestyles were becoming less healthy in five key areas.

A 10-minute walking stress test can give important information about health risks to those middle aged and older. The test measures cardiorespiratory fitness, or how well the lungs, heart, and blood vessels work together.

Preventative medicine expert Dr Timothy Church, recently told CNN, "Fitness is just simply as powerful a risk factor as there is." I think that's a pretty bold statement, and one we would do well to pay attention to.
