Which 5 Foods Bring Back Childhood Memories?
I will take a bet and guess that it wasn't broad beans and broccoli.
Research by FoodTrends has ranked 270 food, snack, and beverage brands according to the following statement: "Brings Back Childhood Memories".
What were the top 5?
- Popsicle
- Oreos
- Hershey Kisses
- Kool-Aid
- M&M's
Good to see Lifesavers there at number 13.

Hmmm. Mine are a little different--
1) Pudding Pops
2) Kool Aid (that one is the same)
3) Swiss Cake Rolls
4) Neapolitan ice cream
5) Homemade pizza
All of those things were "special occasion" foods that we only got at Grandma's house or on our birthdays. Pudding pops are on there because they used to give them out for free at Perkins with the kid meals. I'm probably totally dating myself with that one :)
ReplyMine are:
1. pudding pops (they had them at school)
Reply2. school pizza (it's a frozen rectangle of bread with sausage, sauce and cheese. Not good pizza, alot like Totinos only slightly better)
3. Nutty Bars (my dad bought those all the time)
4. Macaroni and Cheese
5. Oreos (My mom loves them. I don't like them so much any more, but they have nostalgic value to me, just not to eat.)
Oooh, I forgot about Nutty Bars! We used to deconstruct them and pull the layers apart to eat the peanut butter. My mom used to buy these sometimes for herself and we'd sneak them from the kitchen.
Replymine are:
1. Panda Express Orange Chicken
Reply2. Sara Lee Brownies
3. Dots
4. Milk
5. Pasta
Here are my five favorite childhood food memories:
Reply1. Apple Pie with Vanilla Ice Cream
2. Root Beer Floats
3. Baked Potato covered with Creamed Corn
4. Scrambled Eggs with Cheese
5. Fruit Salad with Whipped Cream
Not very healthy, but:
#1 Steamed sponge cake with lemon sauce
#2 Refresher bars
#3 White mice
#4 Whipped ice cream
#5 Digestive biscuits dipped in milk
:-)
ReplyUm, you're going to have to explain what "white mice" are. I'm very curious as to what those are.
ReplyMaybe it was a typo - white rice?
I hope nobody but snakes are eating white mice!! ;)
Replylol, they are white chocolate mice -- perhaps you don't have them in the US??
ReplyWow...this one is specific to certain generations for sure. Back 45 years ago, I dare say many could even afford these high end foods. My memories are a peanut butter/jelly sandwich or grill cheese sandwich. Snacks were sliced oranges and once in a while a hostess cupcake and that was a real treat......
ReplyFish Sticks
ReplyKraft Mac and Cheese
Canned Niblets
Vanilla BB Bats
Chic O Stix
My mother's chicken and pineapple dish and our home-baked bread steamed in corn leaves. Actually as a therapist working in the field of eating I often worked with what foods people found themselves eating when they were stressed only to find out they were foods conditioned to comfort when they were children.
Reply1. Mashed potatoes
Reply2. Mac and cheese
3. Chocolate covered almonds
4. Broccoli (believe it or not, I loved it!)
5. Peanut butter sandwiches (no jelly for me)
1. Grilled cheese
2. Spinach from a can, I was a weird kid (still love spinach, just like a little fresher these days!)
3. Cookie dough ice cream
4. Chocolate dip cones
5. Kool-Aid
I don't eat any of these foods anymore! Well, maybe a really good grilled cheese every now and then.
ReplyI can spot the Brit in the comments above!
As one of eight kids, treats were really treats for us. These are the foods that I remember most from my Irish childhood:
1. Spagettios
2. Oxtail soup with spuds
3. Soft ice cream in sugar cone with a Cadbury's flake in it
4. Lemon Sherbert sweets
5. Fox's glacier mints (my Dad loved these!)
ReplyI was a fat kid so my fav foods were all sweets!!!!!! Brownies, hostess coffee cakes, ding dongs & more, and the list goes on. No wonder I was heavy! :-)
ReplyInteresting how so many of us were "fat kids" and ate junk that we'd never touch now.
Here's my list:
ReplyHoodsie cups
Macaroni and cheese
Hot dogs and hamburgers without the buns (no, I wasn't on some children's version of Atkins...my parents just always served them bunless!)
Kugel (Jewish recipe my mom made)
Tuna spinach bake (my all-time favorite casserole my mom used to make - I still make my healthified version of this!)
Was in daycare a lot:
Reply1)Ritz crackers w/ Peanut butter
2)banana pudding w/ vanilla wafers
3)Otter pops
4)PB&J minus the PB or PB& honey.
5)Salads with bleu cheese
Wow, lots of junk food listed. I'm sure I'm no different, but I'm trying not to think about it. Food cravings can come on so strong and I'm really trying to eat just for nutrition, not for comfort, or habit, or boredom. That is something the staff where I work teach-that our relationship with food is complex and has a lot to do with how we use food. Taking the power away from food and what it means to our memories can be difficult at first but it gets better as I fill my life with more meaningful activities instead of eating.
ReplyMy top 5, hard to choose! My top 10 would definitely included my mom's mac and cheese, corn on the cob fresh from the garden with melted butter, and Good Humor raspberry popsicles, chocolate ice cream, cherry pie and brownies.
