FDA Looking to Cork Alcoholic Energy Drinks

Did you even know they made this stuff? I didn't. To me, it ends with wine, liquor, beer, and nothing in between. Who mixes coffee and hooch!

Apparently someone did. Drinks like Smirnoff Raw Tea, Sparks, and Wide Eye are alcoholic beverages with a shot of caffeine.

But now the FDA has taken aim at these cocktails, and wants the makers to prove they are safe.

Officially, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has given manufactures of these drinks 30 days to send evidence that caffeine can be "safely and lawfully" added to alcohol.

Scientists have been quite frank about the combination of buzz and booze, saying there is no proof to support the claim that it is generally safe:

"Being wide awake and drunk at the same time increases the risk of engaging in several forms of violent or other high-risk physical behaviors that can cause injury."

The pressure already got to Anheuser-Busch InBev and MillerCoors, LCC, because both companies have agreed to halt their alcoholic energy drinks.

Just think about it. It's a sketchy brew. Booze lowers your inhibitions, making you willing to try crazy things, and caffeine gives you the juice to do it. Scary!

... Why would we go for these drinks, when we can easily grab ourselves some Vodka Redbull or Jagerbombs? ;D Same thing - alcohol and caffeine!

I don't think it'd make a difference to most people if they have these in the market. If they taste good, people will buy them, but if they don't, then slowly they won't be making anymore appearance.

Honestly... tea+alcohol? Um. Definitely not my cup of tea.
