Poll: Coke and Calories

We just got a press release from Coke stating that they will be printing Calorie information on the front of all their products worldwide by 2011.
Coke has already introduced this in their Europe, Australian and Mexican markets and are currently releasing the newly labeled products in the USA now.
Coke plans to have all their products world-wide labeled by 2011. Participate in the poll below concerning this new initiative by Coca-Cola.
Will putting a Calorie amount on the front of Coke products help consumers make wiser beverage choices?

I don't think it will matter on the soda so much, but I do people would notice if restaurants posted calories for all their offerings... those nachos and cheese sticks and spring rolls aren't exactly low cal, let alone the fettuccine alfredo!!
ReplyI hardly think that posting the calories front and centre on the bottle would deter people from buying this stuff. If you're going to drink coke, worrying about the calorie/sugar content is probably the last thing on your mind.
ReplyYou'd be surprised at how many people don't know how many calories is in a Coke. I think Coke might lost a lot of business!
ReplyThe question is not as simple as that. Seeing the number could make a customer drink a little less... I still believe in the good within man.
ReplyI noticed that they have actually started doing this on some candy bars. I believe I saw this on a Snickers bar.
I think the people that drink Coke are more than aware of how many calories are in that drink. Even if they are really making a strong effort to ignore it, that little blip of a thing on the front isn't exactly an attention grabber. I agree with Marie that it would make more of a difference if restaurants were to post their calories.
ReplyI agree with the results of the poll so far, it won't deter most people from drinking Coke. They already put calorie and nutritional information on all kinds of foods, good and bad, and people still consume them. About the only thing this will do is take away people's excuse that they didn't know how bad it was.
ReplyWOW! And to think that it didn't even require Barack Obama forcing them to do so with heavy handed legislation borne from the goodness of his heart.
ReplyBarack Obama only knows what's best for us. Mmm mmm mmm.
ReplyHA! That video was creepy!
ReplyMaybe we should just ban all sodas and junk. That way people will be forced to eat whole foods. Enough letting people have this "freedom" which simply taxes our health care system.
ReplyIt's not going to stop anyone from drinking soda. Anyone who has two brain cells to rub together knows that regular Coca Cola has calories; if you want zero calorie soda, drink Diet Coke. The only time I could see it helping is with sodas that don't have the word "Diet" in their name, like Fresca or whatever. Most people who drink regular soda drink it because they don't like the way the diet stuff tastes; they don't usually NOT know it has calories in it.
ReplyI agree with spectra. People are going to look at the same brand of beverage that they have drank for years and not worry about the calorie count, even if its now on the front.
ReplyHonestly, most people I know don't know how many calories are in a bottle of coke and consumption of sugary beverages really I think contributes to a lot of the health problems and added pounds in the US.
What I would prefer to see Coke do is instead of saying 100 calories and 8 servings just go balls out and admit that it is 800 calories per bottle on the front.
ReplyI dont think it will even matter if it says 800 calories. People are still going to buy coke because it taste good to them. Furthermore pop is bad for you anyways, thats just my opinion.
