Lendale White's Weight-Loss Secret - Stop Drinking Tequila
Football players are big dudes, pumping iron and pounding protein shakes to gain weight, especially "skill" position players like running backs.
And, you can't break off too many 80-yard runs if you're built like a baby elephant. Ever see a 320 pound lineman pick up a loose ball and stumble 10-yards, before being tackled by a 180 pound safety.
That's why chronically chunky Tennessee Titans running back Lendale White quit drinking to cut his weight in preparation for the 2009 season.
Lendale lost more than 30 pounds this offseason, entering training camp at his slimmest weight--he reports at 228 pounds. Last year, Lendale weighed as much as 265 pounds, and had trouble hitting the holes.
He blames his tequila habit.
So, following a disappointing loss to the Baltimore Ravens, knocking the Titans out of last year's playoffs, Lendale stopped drinking, and the weight started falling off.
With his new found slimness, Lendal is running faster and expects big things from himself this season.
Eh, I don't know. If you draft him in Fantasy Football, you know he'll be handcuffed to Chris Johnson--annoying.

This is actually a very good point, and one that a frequent commenter here, Jody Fit at 51, posted in her blog yesterday. Whatever your thoughts on alcohol in general, the fact remains that alcohol contains calories that can cause weight gain.
Interesting he could drop so much weight just by cutting out alcohol!
ReplyThx for mentioning me Diane! YES, alcohol has calories just like food & yes, like Spectra below, it has 7 cals/gram versus 4 per for carbs & 9 per for fat. If you drink too much then it is going to add weight, no ifs, ands or butts!
You have to account for what you put in your mouth whether it be fluid or solid. Pus, there are health issues associated with too much drinking as we all know.
ReplyWhat is your opinion on a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon a night?
ReplyAgain, I think if you account for your calories, it is your choice if that is what you want to do BUT if you have medical conditions that may not work with you drinking alcohol or even that many drinks in a week, that is a doctor question. You have to know what is right for you health wise & be smart about it.
Me, I am just not an alcohol drinker & I rather have the food. Studies are mixed about the good & the bad so I say research & make an informed decision based on your won personal health profile.
ReplyBut what if it's not all about calories. I've read that there are great benefits for heart health by drinking cabernet/merlot type wines.
ReplyThat is the key.. you can be healthy in other ways too & thru food as well. It is a personal decision based on informing yourself with the info & deciding what is best for you. WebMD has a couple articles & other sites as well if you Google it.
For me, as a woman, there are pros & cons based on what I have read & since I don't like wine anyway, it is easy for me to do the food route.
Even if it were not heart healthy, if you enjoy it & don't overdo, then a person can decide to fit it into their overall program. Moderation! I fit cookies into mine!!! :-)
ReplyAh but cookies don't clear out cholesterol like the wine molecules... There is documented evidence that drinking Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot/Zinfandel will do exactly that. Why do you think the French have no heart disease?
ReplyMy husband is one of those people that gets a lot of calories from beer in his diet. When he stops drinking beer for a week or two, he drops ten pounds almost overnight. Remember that alcohol has 7 cals/gram...it can add up quickly, especially if you're drinking that tequila in a Jumbo Margarita with tons of sugary mixer.
ReplyAlcohol does not cause weight gain.
Calories above the level your body requires to maintain its current weight causes weight gain.
Nothing more. Nothing less.
I drink alcohol in moderation on the weekends. I just make sure it fits within my calories for the day. Simple.
Of course, most people will sooner pull their own teeth out with pliers before they will count calories. Oh well.
ReplyOne could argue that the insulin process make the whole total calories thing nonsense. Read Gary Taubes book "Good Calories, Bad Calories" to know it's not just quality but quality of calories. Basically drinking sugar gets converted to fat straight away within minutes.
ReplyBesides nobody is saying that heavy boozing is a good thing - for your waistline or your liver.
ReplyModeration. I don't eat cookies every day! That is the key. Enjoy every so often. I have a good ole "real" one on the weekend. After all the hard work I do, I deserve to treat myself!
I eat all the good stuff at least 90% of the time so I really don't feel the need to drink wine to help my cholesterol. All my other good food does that!
Choose what is right for you.
ReplyI want to make an effort to be able to reduce the weight
