Men: Sugar Could Make You Less Manly
Most people have a sweet tooth. It's the ultimate comfort food. But, that candy bar could make you less manly. A new study claims glucose, i.e. sugar, decreases testosterone levels.
Presented at the Endocrine Society's Annual Meeting, researchers found that of the 74 men tested, 73 had significantly lower levels of testosterone two hours after being administered glucose.
The participants included 42 men with normal glucose tolerance, 23 with impaired glucose tolerance (or pre-diabetes), and 9 who had been recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.
Scientists point out results did not differ even with changes in insulin levels.
This data supports the idea that men found to have low testosterone levels should be reevaluated in the fasting state."
According to WebMD, testosterone therapy is used to treat conditions such as erectile dysfunction, alcoholism, prostate cancer, and watching too much American Idol!

Interesting! I'm actually thinking about some of the men I know and this kind of fits.
ReplyWhat's the point of always putting out a sensational blog title? There's more to being "manly" than just testosterone; why not just say eating sugar could decrease testosterone levels?
ReplyI think it's called a "hook."
ReplyIt has a ring of sensationalism to me, more so than necessary to hook a reader.
ReplyThe quickest way to get a man's attention is to say that something threatens his manhood. Marketing 101.
ReplyInteresting.. just a study but the fact that WebMD has this testosterone therapy going on, I guess something to think about for men...
ReplySo does this increased sugar consumption and subsequent lowering of testosterone make men more susceptible to getting man-boobs? Now THAT would be an interesting study.
ReplyAnd a good hook ...
