Creatine May Help Cognition

Creatine has long been a favorite supplement of weightlifters and professional athletes. Unlike dozens of other so-called performance enhancers, which have never actually produced data to substantiate their sometimes outlandish claims (gain 15 pounds of muscle in a half an hour!!), creatine has stood up time and time again during clinical testing.
More and more research is also being conducted on this naturally-occurring substance and, in particular, how it may benefit more than just your muscles. Creatine, it seems, may also benefit your brain.
Mounting evidence shows that creatine supplementation may improve memory and enhance overall brain function. A study out of the University of Sydney found that the relationship between creatine and cognition "underline a dynamic and significant role of brain energy capacity in influencing brain performance."
Disclaimer time: be sure to check with your doctor before using creatine or any nutritional supplements. Though certain supplements may offer benefits to some people, they can sometimes be harmful to others.
Interesting, in the read more section I see an article titled "Billions Wasted On Hyped Food Products".
Keep in mind that creatine is found in the meat that you eat and creatine supplementation may only help vegetarians. The key term here and in the title of the article is "may (might)".
ReplyInteresting since my "brain function" seems to be decreasing with age!!! HA!
OK, I have used creatine in the past for my weight lifting but never thought to check the cognitive function.
The newer versions of creatine that I have used seem to be better for my workouts but I have not noticed the cognitive part. Does that say something about the study???? I can hope that it may be true!
ReplyGood stuff!
A few creatine tips for the curious ones:
Please dump regular creatine monohydrate. Creatine Ethyl Ester is faster absorbing, which means it works faster AND you need a smaller dosage.
And for those that want Maintenance free creatine... try Kre-Alkalyn Creatine (Its monohydrate, but pH balanced and buffered so NO loading is required, and practically eliminates any water bloating!)
HUZZAH! Now get out there and crush it!
ReplyFJ, I use the Kre-Alkalyn Creatine powder & love it! Much better than the stuff I used in the old days! Now, if it only can help my cognitive functioning!
ReplymmmmWorking out regularly and hard leaves me in a constant search for low fat sources of quality creatine and vitamin supplements. After having tried numerous powders and stacks, I finally decided to try the Dr Max Powers Anabolic Stack after doing research about the stack and its ingreidents.
It seems to give me what I was looking for. I take it an hour before workouts and seem to recover much faster with no muscle soreness and more strength and energy the next day. Plus its made me huge. The research I did showed that the creatine included in the Dr Max Powers stack is the most efficient for body building. I recommend it.
