Xenical Diet Pill Leads to Poorer Diet
A new study suggests the popular diet drug Orlistat, sold under the prescription name Xenical, doesn't inspire people to improve their diets, instead individuals popping Xenical are more likely to eat worse. How's that for irony.
Xenical works by blocking the absorption of fat in the intestines and people on the drug are advised to reduce their dietary fat intake, consuming no more than 30% of their calories from fat each day. Not doing so may result in loose stool, i.e. mud butt.
But people don't follow the rules! Published in the Journal of Human Nutrition and Dietetics, researchers reveal of the 44 obese adults studied, men and women on Xenical, average daily calories from fat among Xenical users 33% and for the placebo group 28%. Participants were tracked over 3 years.
Scientists concluded that the drug did not place a governor on people's diet choices, leaving Xenical's manufacturer Roche Laboratories, Inc. scratching their collective heads; Reuters reports.
Makes sense, it's a band aid approach, not a lifestyle. Oh, and did you know there was actually an appetite suppressant candy in the 80s called Ayds, pronounced AIDS! Talk about bad timing.

This is like when someone buys a low fat food product and then thinks they can eat twice the amount because it as less fat.
ReplyNevertheless: Orlistat/Xenical reduces the intake of fat by 30%, so even if the patients ate (little) more fat than others, the absorbtion will stay below. - And: Roche Pharma is no longer promoting Xenical, since the patent has expired... so they will have other issues to scratch their heads.
ReplyWhen Xenical first came out I remember the TV ads.....not just loose b.m.'s but "uncontrollable" as well...no thanks!!!
ReplyI kind of think of Xenical as sort of a form of Antabuse for the obese person. The side effects are supposedly bad enough to make you not want to eat like crap, but there are probably a lot of people out there that figure "Hey, I'm not absorbing the fat, so I can eat whatever I want" and don't really care about the consequences. Plus, I'm guessing a lot of the people that want to use Xenical to lose weight aren't really the types of people that would willingly overhaul their diets...they're more likely to be looking for a quick fix.
ReplyWow! I hadn't heard of that drug before but it sounds like a terrible idea. I mean, not absorbing trans or saturated (I know..this is debatable) fat sounds good, but I definitely agree that it defeats the purpose of making responsible health choices in the first place... like a 'get out of jail free' card, so to speak.
ReplyI'm assuming it also blocks the absorption of poly/mono/omega-3 fat as well, imbalancing the body's intake of nutrients. And the stool thing is just icing on the cake.
I can't tell from the available data whether or not these people gained or lost weight. nor how their fat intake related to calorie intake. One can still have a higher fat percentage yet have fewer daily calories. That's the effective bottom line with diets.
ReplyI'm not one to favor weight loss supplements, but I don't see from what's here how it shows that Xenical makes people eat worse than they would otherwise. If it's the meager percentage difference in the study, 44 people is hardly convincing. Plus, it doesn't prove that the users would have more or less fat intake without the drug. It's just that they aren't following the directions properly. Am I missing something?
ReplyXenical had the opposite effect with me. Because I couldn't stay in the bathroom all day due to the side effects, I ate low fat foods. I lost weight and I believe it was mostly because I watched what I ate. I don't see how anyone can think they can eat fatty foods and actually function while taking this. It goes straight through you. One would spend a whole lot of time in the restroom.
ReplyI advise you to read the article "Why are millions of people choose Xenical?" Dr. John Lone, Canadian Medical University. I am using Xenical lost 18 kg per month.
ReplyI always believe that a proper laid out diet plan by a nutritionist and a healthy exercise plan is the best way to lose weight. Not only Xenical, I guess all diet pills have some or other form of side effect which ultimately affects the health in a very bad way...
ReplyReading this article, make me remember a friend, who is an avid consumer of Xenical. This person never lose weight! Until now, he's still OBESE. He always takes his Xenical with him every evening, especially when eating at All You Can Eat Buffets.
Xenical is not just a TOOL for him to lose weight, it has changed his mindset. Xenical become an ENABLER to eat any fatty food he wants without consequences, which IMO is purely delusional, and dangerous.
ReplyI'd hate to visit the bathroom at that All-You-Can-Eat buffet after your friend and his Xenical. Scary stuff.
ReplyDiet pills or often perceived to be a quick solution to a long term problem. A quick solution often covers up deeper underlying problems, without really addressing the real issues that are involved.
ReplyI tried Xenical along with several other weight loss producs and foudn they didn't work as advertised. I started seeing real success when I started at my gym doing a lot of cardio every week. When I reached a plateau my trainer suggested something called Thermophedra. Without sounding like a commercial, this product worked better than anything I have tried. Even when I reduced my exercise routine I still lost weight. It is great!
ReplyActually I have used both before, together. I was going to this doctor that prescribed them. Most doctors won't give you phentermine cuz it jacks your bloodpressure up. In a way its just like cocaine. It makes you full of energy and jittery. It makes you feel like you can run a marathon. The down side is that you will eventually crash. I had a panic attack while taking them. It made me have insomnia and I felt tired but my body was still moving. While taking both I lost about 7 pounds per week. Xenical is a pill where it absorbs all the fat in things that you eat. You will poop it out. It looks like grease in the tilet when you poop. The bad thing is that it has a mind of its own. Sometimes you may poop in your pants if you cant get to the bathroom in time. Doctors are more willing to prescribe Xenical than phentermine. However, I heared that Alli pills are just like Xenical just cheaper. Phentermine is cheap. Maybe $30 for 30 days. Xenical was $90 for 30 days.
ReplyI use Orlistat (Generic Xenical) instead of Alli pills, it's the generic version of it. dealgeneric.com is where I get it and usually shipping is free. The Orlistat works for me and it's lots cheaper than the name brand. I lost about 8 Pounds per week and with absolutely no side effect. I would recommend you all to try this once.
Thanks

I agree with Mack Allen, I am also satisfied with Orlistat :)

Hi All
I have just recently been prescribed Xenical, and trying to do research on it before I start taking it.
To me it seems that if you follow the instructions, and exercise, then you're definitely on a winning path.
I am 5ft 7", and I weigh 15stone. However, about 18months ago I was at about 17.5 stone. It has taken me that long to lose that weight by just eating sensibly, and I am now starting to feel the strain on my body due to being seriously over weight.
I was wondering (other than the toilet trips) what people have thought about their experiance, and where they got help for diet plans etc
Thanks!
ReplyIn the UK alone, more than billion people have been looking for weight loss treatments to help them lose weight and researching into weight loss pills to find the best one available to suit their requirements.
ReplyThis article’s title begins with oversimplification, “Xenical Diet Pills leads to Poorer Diet” when it is assumed that there is only one simple cause of an outcome when in reality there are many causes. People could have poor diets for various reasons, not just because they decided to take a diet pill. Then as the article continues, oversimplification is present throughout the article because they believe that the only reason for poor diets is the use of this diet pill. The article states that because people have taken the diet pill they are eating more fat and unhealthy foods. Taking the pill may not be the reason, it could be because they prefer that kind of food, that is all they can afford, that is what is available to them or a multitude of other reasons. The last paragraph of this article is a red herring, an irrelevant topic is presented to an argument. The begin to talk about how in the 80s there was an appetite suppressant candy called ayds, but was pronounced like ‘aids’; this has nothing to do with the rest of the article and how poor diets are caused by taking xenical.
