How Many Calories Does Michael Phelps Eat?

pastaman.jpg

According to the NY Post, the Olympic swimming sensation eats... 12,000 calories per day.

Here's what a days food intake looks like:

...three fried-egg sandwiches loaded with cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, fried onions and mayonnaise.

He follows that up with two cups of coffee, a five-egg omelet, a bowl of grits, three slices of French toast topped with powdered sugar and three chocolate-chip pancakes.

At lunch, Phelps gobbles up a pound of enriched pasta and two large ham and cheese sandwiches slathered with mayo on white bread - capping off the meal by chugging about 1,000 calories worth of energy drinks.

For dinner, Phelps really loads up on the carbs - what he needs to give him plenty of energy for his five-hours-a-day, six-days-a-week regimen - with a pound of pasta and an entire pizza.

Apparently he "washes all that down with another 1,000 calories worth of energy drinks".

I have a *very* high metabolism, and because of this, I eat more than the normal person (although I don't work out pretty much at all). I am 6'2" and weigh 170-180 pounds, depending on the day. I don't eat nearly what he eats, but I probably eat 3-4000 calories each day. I'm also 38, and people have told me for the last 20 years that it will catch up to me, still waiting on that. I've had a lot of people see what I can eat and say that they wish they could eat as much as I do. As someone else put it, Michael *has* to eat that much, and take it from my personal experience, it does really get old fast. Eating is more of a chore to me than a luxury. If I miss a meal, or don't eat enough, I really feel it. I don't envy his eating, I envy his physique. I should probably exercise more.

Athletes get into the habit of eating tons of calories because they workout so much, but I always worry about the athletes who retire with bad eating habits.

So many ex-athletes are fat, because they never really learn how to eat well.

Now, I know some people say that they workout so they can eat whatever they want. But working out doesn't do a lot to protect you from chemicals and transfat.

Even athletes are suceptible to heart problems even when they have a low body fat percentage.

I wonder how much calories he burns in 1 day of training.
I Know that 7000 calories equals 1 kg or something like that...

"According to an article in The Guardian, Phelps eats around 12,000 kcal each day, or about six times the intake of a normal adult male.21. Yet according to Michael Phelps in an interview with 60 minutes, the estimate given by the Guardian is "not true" and he states he eats 8,000 to 10,000 calories a day when training." So there ya go : )I still don't how he can eat that much and be that skinny. It's crazy!! : )

Ok.. so like.
Michael Phelps..
This is ALL true. He does eat that much.
But he also swims so much that he burns all the calories.
He said so himself in an interview. It's all accurate. Except in the interview he said 10-12,000. So. Yeahh..
