Facercise: The New Botox?

facercise.jpg

I get lots of emails from PR firms. Everyone has something to promote. Occasionally something is amusing enough to mention here.

The 'flex-away system' resembles some sort of medieval torture device. It is actually a patented face exerciser.

According to the blurb,

Similar to working out at the gym, the muscles and skin tissues are lifted and toned by performing daily mouth exercises.

The device is place in the mouth and "With proper distance between the top and bottom teeth, the user then sits and relaxes while moving the lips over the device."

After so many workouts you might "gain a youthful appearance".

I guess it's safer than surgery.

Disclosure: The mention of this product is not an endorsement or advertisement. It's just a strange thing that I saw. What lengths we go to in order to hold back aging.

It is true. Some people will try anything to make themselves look younger.

Whoa, that's old school. I remember finding a book about facial exercises in my grandmother's things. Doing the workout makes one look like one is practicing for Halloween!

Listen, it'll probably sell like hotcakes. Perhaps you can use it along with teetch whitening stips (you know, sort of at the same time) so you can kill two birds with one stone.

Wonder if men who shave will have to use it less - given that all their facial grimaces must surely count as facial exercises too!

it is old school...and I was shocked how NEW SCHOOL when I wrote about facial yoga.

there is a core group of peeps who completely believe in this stuff.

and, as I reside happily in my glass domicile, Im not criticizing :) perhaps if you believe it works...it does.

for you.

Remember Elaine's face bra on Ally McBeal? Worn on the face, it was supposed to support your face tissues so they wouldn't sag? this device brought that to mind.

This is actually the moment when I wonder, "Why didn't I think of that?" Then I think, "How did anyone have time to sit around and think of that?" Oh, to be in the mind of an inventor/genius...

It sounds a bit far fetched. It's not like we arn't using our facial muscles during the day. They are pretty much moving constantly throughout the day as we talk, smile, yawn etc. It's not like facial muscles don't get a work out on a normal day.

I guess it would be kinda hard to eat while wearing this :-)

I've seen similar things to this before. I guess it can't hurt, but it's probably a waste of money. I wonder if some women won't buy it because they're afraid of "bulking up", lol. Doesn't everyone want cheeks of steel?

I thought it was the loosing of ligaments and the lose of elasticity(mostly through sun damage) that caused sagging and wrinkling in the face? I don't think exercise can do anything about that. Infact I think it would accerbate the problem.

What is needed is fat not exercise for the aging face.

I've said for a while that as people get older, they gain fat where they don't want it and lose fat where they do want it :-(

That is hilarious. I wonder if there is any validity to it?

Actually, there is a lot of validity to exercising the muslces of the jawline and throat because the facial muscles are the only muscles in the body that are directly attached to the overlying skin. When the muscle sags, the skin of the face sags. Conversely, when tightening the muscle thru exercise, the skin "tightens." However, like many others, I am not convinced this plastic contraption is necessary; there are probably books upon books out there that detail facial exercises which, when performed regularly, would be just as effective. Google "kissing the ceiling" for example. It's an exercise I've read on forums is very effective.
