The 5 Bite Diet

Not four and not six.
Apparently five is the perfect number of bites to take at your next meal. Dr Alwin Lewis's book Why Weight Around recommends the five bite approach to weight loss.
- Drink as much of anything as you want as long as it doesn't contain calories.
- Take 5 bites of any food at lunch.
- Take 5 bites of anything at dinner.
- Take one multi-vitamin every day.
- Get a bit of protein a day "on average".
Dr Lewis says that after three days on this diet you will no longer be hungry: "that then resets what you body sees as full". Once you have reached your weight you can go back to "eating normally" (and therefore gain all the weight back and then some).
The truly sad thing is (in this ad/news bite) that Mr Lewis appears to be serious. Do not be fooled. This is not a good way to manage weight and get healthy.
I have no doubt whatsoever that anyone would lose substantial amounts of weight eating just five bites at a meal (Lewis sets an expectation of 13 pounds per week in his book).
How about we check back a year or 5 later before calling it successful?
The site for the diet has the audacity to say "no more fad diets" and lists so many clichés that maybe this is satire after all and I have been fooled.
I though we were over these weird gimmicks?
YaYa,
I was so loopy at first, I lost a whole day!
I began 5 bites on a Monday. My weekly paperwork at work is due every Wednesday. I completed all my work and submitted it on Tuesday!
On Tuesday night, my boss e-mails me and says "You're an early bird".
I had no idea what he was talking about until I woke up in the middle of the night, realizing it was Tuesday and not Wednesday!
My head started clearing up after 72 hours.
It took a couple days after that to get used to being able to function with such small portions. I'd be exercising and even though I felt fine, I was scared I'd faint. I kept thinking "How can I not be hungry?"
Replyok, in 2 weeks from today I am flying to the south of France for a holiday.
ReplyBikini time.
10 pounds to lose.
Starting fresh today. For good this time!
Will keep posting.
Being on holiday in the south of France is a good incentive. And in a bikini! That's a hardcore incentive!
I'm doing a marathon in Utah in August.Even though I mostly walk them, with some running sprinkled in, I tend to be in the 120s when I'm training.
This year I've been in the 130s and my body really feels the difference.
My goal is to cross the finish line somewhere around 125 lbs. That's about 10 lbs from my current weight.
I think I'll do a daily post of what I've eaten for the day, to stay accountable.
On Sunday I have an 18 mile training walk/run. Today, which is the day before, I'm exceeding my 5 bites. Dr Lewis would frown upon this but I'm afraid of passing out at mile 12!
So, starting tomorrow, after my 18 miler, I'll begin posting what I've eaten.
Good Luck Diet74! We can get this done!
ReplyJuly 25
ReplyHi everyone,
Good luck to both of you walkerlori and Diet74. It's great to have goals. Yesterday was my 3rd day and so far I've lost 9.2 lbs. Not as much as some but I'm prediabetic so I eat a small piece of cheese and a few blueberries in the morning. Lunch is a small taco or patty from a fast food hamburger, the small size not a Big Mac or Whopper LOL. I eat dinner at home and been fixing myself a salad. Its probably more than 5 bites but it's fresh spinach and veggies with very little dressing, the spray on kind.
Yesterday (3rd day) was the worst. That time between dinner and bedtime is my hardest. Last night I came close to caving. I wasn't really hungry but I just thought I should be putting something in my mouth. Is that wierd of what? But I kept telling myself that I was this far and didn't want to start over.
I think years of yoyo dieting has made me kind of weight loss resistant so I'm satisfied with my weight loss. My motto has to be "slow and steady wins the race. I applaud those of you who can lose it faster but I guess it's not meant for me.
My goal for right now is to get under 200. That will be a loss of 45 lbs. 35 + to go. Then I"m going to treat myself but I haven"t decided if it will be a massage, a trip to the casino or a manicure/pedicure.
Even though i HAVE 100+ to lose, I think just having 45 off, my knees and hips will feel a lot better.
Been going back and reading some of the older posts when things get hard. It really helps.
Will post again in a few days.
My God Walkerlori, that is really impressive.
Here I am talking about losing weight to go sunbathe in the south of France, and struggling with the diet, and there you are running your butt off.
that's unbelievable!!!!!
Today i went hiking and i thought I was gonna die.
i mean i didnt , but I really thought I would!
hahahahaha
i guess it's all in my head!
Actually come to think of it, I foud out about this diet from my neighbours a few years back when i still lived in LA.
They went to see Dr Lewis in Burbank, and I remember thinking they were absolutely insane even thinking about doing this....
I do remember that one of them used to eat 5 bites and go on to ride his bike up the Mulholland hills for hours.....I thought he was gonna die, but he didnt!
Anyways, still, what you are doing is impressive!
And Lillian, 9.2 pounds on your 3rd day is fantastic....Really.
I also totally understand the whole "wanting to eat" thing.
It really is psychological.
This is my main problem.
I realized that when I do this diet, I have real hunger on the first couple of days, and then after that I really don't feel hungry at all...but I feel like eating.
I tell my boyfriend that my stomach is fine, but my mouth is throbbing.
I swear, it's torture......
But it does get easier with time and as your body gets used to eating less, so will your mind.
We all do overeat for reasons other than hunger, so those reasons are bound to surface from time to time.
I hope it gets easier for you with time.
ReplyHi I have been reading all of your posts and am feeling really motivated. I have a tendency to have episodes of really low blood pressure and am wondering if this diet would exasberate those.
ReplyTmac,
YES! This diet (in fact, most diets) will have a tendency to decrease blood pressure. For most of my life I have had moderate low blood pressure. Once I was living abroad and the nature of the diet there caused considerable weight loss--I started having the kind of dizzy spells etc. that come from too low b-p. The Italians do believe that low b-p can be a problem (unlike american docs who think a corpse has the perfect b-p). A doctor there told me to salt my food! It worked like a charm, the dizzy spells went away. If this diet causes dizzy spells from low b-p for you, salt away and drink more water.
Wow, Lillian. I didn't think a 9 lb. loss in three days was possible even fasting. Congrats. And don't worry about whether it is five bites or not--the goal is portion control that works and obviously your intake is working. There is nothing magic about "five" -- what works is the right portion control for each person.
I only weight once a month, but today I took in my belt for the third notch in 5 weeks and it is still a bit loose. People have started to notice big time. I suspect that I will have easily broken by first two months 37 lb goal when I see my doctor in two weeks. That will leave 40 lb. to go.
Keep up the good effort!
Replyok, started yesterday.
Reply-3.4 lbs .
Pretty happy.
Let's see what happens tomorrow!!!
WOW. I had given up on myself since I can't seem to keep up with this diet...BUT 3.5lbs in 1 day and 9 in 3 is an excellent reason to try again.
ReplyI lost another pound.
ReplySo that's -4.4 lbs in 2 days of 5 bites!
Come on Patty, get back on !!! : )
I have had a really hard time trying again...but I dont see any other option for losing weight for good.
Good luck if you decide to give it another go!!!
Well today was a "good news/bad news" day. The bad news is that I went way beyond the 5 bite meal both for lunch and dinner. Had some out of town friends visiting. In the past when this happened, I would come home and eat everything in sight thinking " I blew it anyway" But the good news is, I didn't. I'm sitting here sipping my tea. This, for me is quite a breakthrough. Maybe I can do this.
ReplyI have been weighing every day. I found a really good scale that weighs in tenths and is accurate. My thinking was that a loss, ever a few tenths would be an incentive. How often does everyone else weigh? I read some do once a month. Don't know if I could wait that long. Am I obsessing?
Later
I know what you mean. I sooo know the feeling of "messing up" and then thinking what the heck, I might as well i nhale everything in the kitchen....
That is such a terrible disease, I swear, I have been like this since I was a teen.
So the fact that you have not done this this time is such a good sign.
I have been better about it as well since being in the diet.
But it really depends on what happens in my personal life,.
I feel anything can set me off and I empty the fridge.
That is usually what happens when I do a traditional diet. You know the ones where you lose the "healthy 2 pounds a week"
I eat well, small portions, and exercise and after all that I only lose 2 pounds if I'm lucky.
Then God forbid I "mess up", that's the end of the world in my head and I give in to pigging out.
So I end up putting on more weight that I lost that week.
With this diet, the fact that I lose faster is a great incentive.
It really is all psychological.
I also know that this diet, as the doctor says, is a temporary solution.
It's not a lifestyle.
It will help control portions later one when the weight is gone.
So I am aware that it is not the healthiest thing to do and should only be done for a while. So that motivates me to get on with it and get it over with , so I can finally, one hopes, get to eating small healthy meals.
As far as the scale goes, I am a bit obsessive about it.
I know like you said that some people weigh in once a week or once a month.
I do like it everyday because as you mentionned it is an incentive.
This morning I weighed myself and saw I lost 0.4 pounds.
I am just happy I lost something.
So that motivates me to do well today.
I am aware that this behavior is an obsessive one, but somehow that is also my motivation.
My boyfriend has been doing the 5 bite diet for a week now, and at first he weighed himself every morning for the first 3 days and barely lost anything.
He did not give up , he continued the diet and weighed himself this morning after not going on the scale for 4 days and he has lost 5 pounds.
See, if I had weighed myself and had not lost anything I would have given up.
Some people are more patient! and it works in the end.
so, I hope other people answer you question about how often they weigh themselves.
And how that works for them!!!
Good luck.
ReplyI am back on it today. Thanks for the push Diet74. Oh man I REALLY need to do this. I dunno why I can't seem to stay on it.
Ps- I weigh myself everyday. I need to see the loss to keep motivated. When there's no difference in weight I either get happy I didn't gain OR get super impatient that I didn't lose. It's a hit or miss. This is usually how I fall. :(
Replyso glad you are back on it.
I do get impatient as well when the loss is minimal, but sometimes it's just temporary water retention and if you stick to the diet that day, then the next morning it shows on the scale!
But I know what you mean. It is demoralizing sometimes!
Good luck!
ReplyHi Everybody,
Regarding weigh ins...I'm an every couple days kind of gal. I don't have any particular day, just when I feel like checking.
On the other hand, my husband is an every day weigh in guy.
Good Luck Y'all!
Lori
PS..My favorite way of tracking my progress is the "pants'o'meter". Either they fit or they don't!
ReplySo, I weighed myself this morning after a really good 5 bite day yesterday and I gained 0.4 pounds.
I was very shocked, but then I measured my waist and I have lost an inch since last week.
So I guess sometimes the weigh gain might be due to water retention?!?!?!?!
That's what I tell myself!!!!
Well that's what I tell myself! : )
ReplyCould be. Maybe after tomorrow's weigh in you'll have lost that and an extra 3. Do you weigh yourself at the same time every day?
I lost 1 lb from yesterday to today. Not much you say? But it is because I was expecting to gain, seeing as how I stuffed my face. I am such an emotional eater. I am highly annoyed and angry with this person I work with but can't afford to quit my job right now...so I find myself eating. >:/ it really sucks. It's like I'm transferring all my anger into eating.
I'm trying my hardest to keep with it...we'll see what happens. If I can do it for 2 days in a row I'll be home free.
ReplyAfter months of reading this site, I decided to post.
I'm 17, almost 18 years old. Sadly, I was born into a big family who all loves to eat and have about 1 or 2 who are naturally skinny. I've been overweight my entire life and have decided it's time for a change. My dad was almost 400 pounds my age when he was ready for change, my uncle was 300+ my age and ready for change. I'm ready for change.
It wasn't until sophomore year of high school I decided I needed to lose weight. Not just because I wanted to fit into the "it" clothes and be accepted by all of the popular people, but because I was 15 years old and weighed 262 pounds. That's not acceptable.
At the end of my 2nd year in high school I lost 40 pounds in an unhealthy way, stress. I was in a private school filled with all skinny girls and maybe 4 big girls. I was surrounded by girls who tried to get me expelled, plus my grades were slipping. Finally my parents put me back in public school and that's were the journey truly began.
I would try everything and when I couldn't lose past 220 I remembered the 5 bite diet on the news on night. I didn't begin it until February of this year at 225 and went down to 215 but unfortunately fell off. At first I blamed my mom, another person in my life who has big all my life and doesn't want to change. Then I blamed the stress but then I realized, I wasn't ready for change.
I recently came back to the 5BD 2 weeks ago when I weighed myself and weighed 216. I told myself I was ready for this, it was the perfect weight, only 16 pounds away from never seeing 262 again.
2 weeks later and being strong on the diet...I weigh 206 pounds. The lowest I've ever been!
There is another reason why I want to lose this weight, besides for health reasons and being happier, I want to return to my old dance academy of 11 years. I'm determined and ready for this and with all of the posts on here, they have made me ready for change.
Thank you all of your stories, your numbers in weight, and your honesty. You are all helping me become a healthier 17 year old girl with a full life ahead of her.
:)
I'll keep everyone updated!
ReplyI also forgot to add, my goal weight for now is 150 pounds. I'm very muscular naturally (thanks to my dad) and want to see where I look at there.
I've lost 56 pounds.
Another 56 pounds to go. :)
ReplyHi readyforachange-
That's exactly my weight and approximately my goal. Let's do this together. Congrats on your loss so far. Nice achievement.
ReplyWe can do this together :) I'm glad to have someone the same weight going through the same journey. Congrats to you as well! We can do this!
ReplyLillian- Thank you very much :)
readyforchange--Good Luck on the 5bd. You sound very committed. Go for it!!!
ReplyUpdate:
Stress with the family and around the house, sadly, made me emotional eat Saturday. However, I'm back on it and realize that will only add fuel to the fire.
Stress or not I'm back to the diet and Wednesday is my weigh in day :)
Yesterday I tried on a shirt that was MORE then snug on me last year...it fit nice and loose and made me realize this diet is a lifesaver!
I'll let everyone know my weight.
Good luck everyone!
ReplyHey, I am new here. I found this message board today, and am very encouraged by what I am seeing. I am 25 and have struggled with my weight forever. I have tried every diet that I can think of, so what can it hurt to try one more. I weigh 240 at the moment. I am excited to try this and hope to meet others going through the same thing. I also have my sister's wedding in 6 1/2 weeks and hope to lose some weight by then.

ReplyHi all! It's been 2 days that i've been into this diet and i've lost 2 pounds!YIPEE! Love this diet! I have to lose 7 more lbs for next week special event. Where is Big Daddy and 5 biter? The two of you are my inspiration.
Hi everyone! I'm new in this forum. i need to lose a lil weight. Well, about me,I'm 105 lbs now. Got to lose my last 5 lbs. My ideal weight is 100. Although accdg to Dr. Lewis, I need to be 98 lbs. Will this diet work for me? I really need to lose weight asap!!I'm so desperate
ReplyWell I'm back on the 5bd as of tomorrow. Was on vacation for a few days and went way over the 5 bites. However, I did stick to the twice a day part of it. If this diet does nothing else but help conquer my snacking habit it will be an improvement. Since I started. I haven't eaten anything after 6PM. That was my usual time to inhale the kitchen. Now if I can just cut down on the amount I eat....I'm seriously considering doing as Dr Lewis suggested on the tape, buying a bag of snickers. The ultimate portion control, a snicker for every meal. LOL
ReplyThat's good to hear, Lilian. I also love this diet because it made me more productive and energetic. I, no longer, feel hypoglycemic.Even i fell from the wagon this morning. It's my 3rd day. This diet rocks!I heart it!
Reply08/04/09
ReplyI'm here again. Woke up 4 am because I'm hungry and I ate 1 hershey nuggets!!! Oh my..I'm so bad at this. But anyway, I decided that this will not let me down. I must focus on my goal.Instead of just bingeing (i'm really an emotional eater!) , I'll just write here or read in this site to be motivated. Wish me luck today. It's my 3rd day.Where's everybody? Guys, need u for motivation.
Anonymoua...Yes the hunger pangs do go away after a few days on the 5bd. Then you actually go into sort of a "high" for as long as you stay on it. But I think most of us who have a lot to lose are emotional eaters. and that's tough to fight. This blog has been a godsend for me. Reading about those who have successed are a tremendous boost to my willpower. We can do this!! I keep telling myself to look at the long picture. How much better my life will be if I take off this weight.
ReplyDay after tomorrow doc's appointment. Will get weighed after another month on the diet. (I avoid weighing myself because I find the drama unhelpful.)
As I have lost 3 inches on my belt in the last 30 days, I suspect I will have broken 200 lb. If not, 3 inches is still 3 inches.
Great to hear all the energy here!
ReplyThat's nice to hear determined! You have to update us. This site is my motivator. Keep on updating pls..
ReplyIt's my 3rd day on this diet- Aug 4,2009. Although there are various hunger pangs but i love the feeling of it. I just said to myself " This hungry feeling will make my waist smaller." This is the first diet that I have recognize true hunger and the emotional hunger. I really heart it. One thing that really made me stick with this is to have a positive affirmation. Each time,i have to binge, i just reminded myself on my positive affirmation. Gotta stick w/ this diet until next week when i'll be in my goal weight which is 100 lbs. 5 more pounds to go!!!
Reply8/4/09
So, I started yesterday and have made it through 2 days. I'm doing b,l and d...about 6 bites each. I have been very headachey and a little lightheaded. I still feel better than I do when I try to do Atkins or something very low carb.
I love the idea of being able to eat anything I want and not have to worry about carbs, fat, etc. I have tried all organic, only stuff from health food stores, vegan, vegetarian (I still don't eat any red meat), low carb, lower calorie, low glycemic...ugh. Just let me eat whatever I want in smallll portions!
I do think that junk food accounts for a lot of illness and disease, so it's not like I am going to go crazy, but if I want a Snickers for lunch, I can have one!
I don't really have a problem with the doctor's comments. I mean, they are shocking, but I need that kind of coach. Lovey dovey doesn't do it for me.
I refuse to weigh myself until Monday- exactly one week.
Man, my stomach feels like it is going to eat itself. But I will be so glad to see the loss!! I got married 2 years ago at 155 and now I'm 174. It hasn't budged in forever.
Replyme too! It feels like my stomache gonna eat itself but i embrace and love that feeling because it just means that my waist is getting smaller..=D For the first time, that i have experience what real hunger is coz i'm such an emotional eater. I have enjoyed eating because i have really savored it and tasted it! This diet rocks!
ReplyHi, I'm really motivated by seeing your posts. We can all do this together! I'm starting my version of the 5 bite diet today. 3 meals a day, 5 bites each, or instead of 5 bites I can substitute a fruit smoothie. I tried this before, but gave up by 2pm on the first day. I'm a thyroid cancer survivor & want to be as healthy as possible. I know I'll be healthier at a thin weight. I'm definitely motivated & dedicated. I'm a 5'3" female & weigh 167 with a goal weight of 105. So here I go...
Replywooohooo!! I'm 104 lbs now! It's my junior years weight. I've never been in this weight for 10 years. I'm so in heaven! To think, I have been on a diet like forever! I'm gonna stick with this. 4 more lbs to go..=D
ReplyYay! Glad we are all hanging in there! I felt less headachey today.
ReplyI agree- I am really tasting my meal better, too. It's so true what he says about that...especially with things like ice cream, I totally stop tasting it after a certain number of bites.
The other thing I like is that I don't have to advertise that I'm on a diet. I can eat whatever. But, at the same time, my boss canceled a lunch with me tomorrow and I'm glad because I would probably feel a little weird if he is noticing me only taking a few bites.
I read an article by this Scandinavian lady who said that when she first came to the U.S. and ordered out, she thought the waiter had brought dinner for the whole table. She said on plate here would make three meals there!
Well I fell off for a few days, but I am back on today. But when I fell off, I still tried to be good, and still loss 4 lbs. So I am at 236 this morning. I have noticed how many times I walk over to grab something to eat just because I am bored, not actually hungry. I hope I can make it all the way through today. Its very hard for me at night because I am a snacker.
ReplyI'm a talker, so I'll probably be posting a lot.
You can do it Sarah! Imagine losing 4 pounds when you think you fell off. Still a great loss!
Feeling better today. Been waking up kinda dizzy, but when I get up, I'm ok. Had a few bites of oatmeal with raspberries in it and a small veggie sausage link this morning.
Reply4 more days until I weigh in, and I have the weekend to face. But I think I will be just fine.
I don't lots of "talking". I would rather have an active post to go to. Its actually pretty hard to find too many message boards about this.
I do good in the morning, I allow myself a cup of coffee, and if I have that, I don't get hungry until noon. So that helps a lot. I have a wedding in just over 6 weeks. I really want to lose some good weight by then. I am going to weigh in again this Saturday and will post it.
ReplyI meant that I don't mind lots of "talking". Just wanted to clarify so I don't sounds like a jerk.
Reply08/06/09
I have fell off the wagon but the great part of it. I have'nt gain any pound. It's been 2 days that i have not been so strict with my 5 bite diet. Well, i think, i should revised it a lil bit. Instead of 5 bite for 2 meals. I'm gonna have 5 bites for 3 meals. So, that i won't binge. I'll keep u,guys updated to my journey to my ideal weight!
ReplyI've been on this diet for about a week now but i really can't stick with it. I kept on procrastinating since I have only 7 more lbs to lose and I've been such an emotional wreck this week. I have to attend a wedding this 12th of August. And I am so determined to lose some of my weight. I'm gonna start for good this time. I'm kinda frustrated in weighing myself daily. Therefore, i'm gonna weigh myself after 3 days of this diet and let's see. I've read in this post that this is good to jumpstart my weight loss. I'm so determined. Gotta post my journey to weight loss here everyday.
ReplyHello everyone,
I love hearing all of the posts on here :)
I only lost 1 pound this week and am at 205. But surprisingly enough...I am not mad. I'm not bitter. I'm happy with it. 1 pound is better then no pounds, or gaining.
With the stress finally settling down, and me back to the diet, I'm ready to lose the last 5 pounds and finally be in the 100's. Something I haven't been in since I was 13.
It will be nice to re-vist :)
Good luck everyone! We can all do it!
ReplyI can't believe I was able to remain in control at lunch today (free cookie day at Subway) but I did. I had 5 sub bites and gave away the cookie.
I don't have any hunger pangs or headache feelings today at all. Feeling normal is actually kind of scary. I feel like I may not be able to wait until Monday to weigh.
Here's hoping we all face the weekend with confidence!
ReplyHi everyone.
ReplyBeen on the five bite diet for 15 days now and have lost 13 pounds. Not as fast as some but I'm still on it. I think the older I get (65) the harder it is to lose. When I started, my immediate goal was to get below 200. 15 days ago I had 45 lbs to go, now it is 32. Sounds better. I try not to look at the whole picture...100 lbs to go... and just take baby steps.
I weigh every day. It seems if I lose it motivates me and if I don't, it tells me to try harder.
I eat out a lot. Not a good thing. Today it was a small taco for lunch. Ok that was about 5 bites, but the mini pizza for dinner was more than 5. Seems like I have a hard time leaving anything on my plate.
On the plus side I haven't snacked at all since I started. Just two meals a day. I even baked 2 batches of chocolate chip cookies (grandkids) and didn't even sample one. Yeah me
I don't get hungry any more, no more stomach growls. That in itself is a big incentive to stay on the 5bd. I don't want to go through those first three days again. Also from reading the posts, it sounds like it is even harder to stay with it the second time around.
Hey thanks everyone for all your posts. I read them over and over. It tells me I'm not alone in this battle. Would also like to hear from some of the earlier posters. How are you doing? Keep in touch.
Thanks, anonymous (can you choose a less generic handle?), for the kind word.
Well, it was a good and bad day at the doctor. Good news first: since I started the bite diet on June 24, I have lost 33 pounds. I started because weight had meant blood pressure: 185 over 110. My pressure is now 105 over 80. Not prefect but just fine result for 6 weeks of mild (walking) exercise and weight loss. My doctor was very happy to put it mildly.
The disappointment was that I really hoped to break 200 lb. at this appointment. I was 205. Perhaps that was an unrealistic goal. But I am not discouraged. I march on. Once a month I allow a "normal day" because of some social requirement. That is today. But like last month what I find is that I just don't want to eat a big helping of things. It is so easy now to restain portions. I guess the real delight was that I had could have wine with dinner. The requirement that you avoid all calories in fluids is the hardest thing about this diet for me.
Welcome to Sarah, Timmy, Butterflycat, ready for change, and biting less. But mostly good to hear from Lillian. Great work! Just think long term and you can do it!
P.S. Hey, ready for change, I'm 205 too. We can do it together. And "no procrastination," I suggest that you avoid weighting every day or so. The drama can be unhelpful. Try it every two weeks. You will lose weight in 2 weeks and it avoids the "O gosh, no loss" problem.
ReplyI agree, Lillian...I don't want to go through the first 3 days again! (and congrats on your successes with the baking cookies and the baby step goals...awesome!)Determined, your loss is still fabulous! I'm sure the doc WAS pleased! And the rest of you guys, YOU CAN DO IT! We all can.
We went out last night to our favorite noodle house, and I ordered an appetizer, but it was still Thai peanut noodles. I probably ate about 8 bites maybe? And got them to bring a box for the rest. So I was still finished way before my husband, but no big deal. And it was only $4, as opposed to the $9 entree- so basically $2 per meal since I can have it for lunch again today.
Then we went to the bookstore (with Starbucks) where I would normally get a Cafe Au Lait, but I got a hot white peach tea with 0 calories.
I decided I needed to go ahead and weigh in this morning to just see how I was doing. So in 5 days I have lost 7 pounds. 174 to 167. That's the number I had projected! I think my ultimate goal is 140. We shall see.
It's tax free weekend here and I got a nice pair of pants cheap last night that are a size smaller. Shouldn't be long! :)
ReplyWOOO HOOOO!!! I'm 102 lbs!! I really can't believe it. This was my weight when I was in my sophomore years. This is so so great. People told me that the last 10 lbs is the hardest, but i have never felt that at all. This is the best diet ever!! Though, i have not followed strictly with the 5 bite diet, but still i'm so happy with the results. No deprivation. I can eat whatever i want too,as long as it is below 8 bites. As for dessert or any sweets, i have a rule that i will eat only 3 bites. At least, i dont deprive myself and binge unlike the low carb diet, that i felt so deprived and so self-pity that i end up eating all the sweets in refrigerator. LOL! Well, what i learn from this diet is: 1. portion control, 2. i can go back anytime if i have fell off the wagon, 3.self-control, 4. no emotional eating.. I love this! I hope that i'll be 98 lbs next week. My ideal weight according to Dr. Lewis. Thank you so much for the updates here in this site. You are my motivator! Love you, guys!
ReplyI've lost 3 lbs for 4 days. NOt bad at all..=) I still have to lose 4 lbs for next weeks event. 98 lbs, here i come! I'm so so positive about this..
ReplyWell, I stuck to plan all weekend and only went from 167 to 166.8. Grrr. I guess I shouldn't have weighed again, but I wanted to know the total for one week. So one week = 7.2 pounds. According to his Twitter posts, Dr. Lewis wouldn't be too thrilled with that, but that's a good week's loss! I need to stay positive.
ReplyEven though I am not counting calories at all, we went out to Panera and I got a veggie sandwich. I looked it up online and it was almost 700 calories! I only ate 1/4 of it, but that is crazy high. A 6" sub is about 1/2 that.
oohhh..that's so great biting less..7.2 lbs in a week, that's a lot? In a conventional diet, you have to wait 3-4 weeks to have that weight loss, but u did it for just a week time because of the 5 bite diet.. well, i fell off the wagon this weekend, because my boyfriend visited me..Well,anyways, i'm still happy because i'm not this "super conscious girl who is counting calories and who is too paranoid that i'll gain the pounds" but now,i just enjoy eating and what's amazes me is that i,no longer, binge or want the feeling of fullness and there's no guilt in eating.I just love it. Even my boyfriend noticed my "new fit body" and kept on asking me "how come your not on a diet and have this fab body?" oohhh..that's heaven to me! This is my answered prayer when it comes to enjoying your food..Goodbye to all the gazillions diet I've tried. I'm now carrying my 5-bite diet lifestyle..=) Keep up the goodwork, biting less!!

ReplyOk im 23yrs old and i weight 178lbs. My goal is to lose 40lbs. I have been working out and eating right for about 6 months now and i have lost 33lbs (but it took me 6months)then i saw this diet and i figured i would try it....
So I started this diet on saturday and ive already lost 3Lbs (yay me). Im planning on doing it for 2 weeks then going back to eating healthy and working out.
Everyone says im crazy for doing this diet but i dont care lol... im glad i found this web to hear positive comments from this 5 bite diet. anyways Ill keep you guys updated on how im doing. :) good luck everyone
What kind of workouts do you do? How often? What kind of foods? Do you drink? I find that's the hardest part of dieting, the drinking part. I don't drink a lot but this diet calls for no drinking. 33lbs is great...curious to know how you did it.
ReplyI started this today and I currently weigh 139.
ReplyI also take green tea supplements and dexatrim max 7.
I ate a few more bites than I'm supposed too...
but tomorrow I won't.
Summer-
I would still eat a few more bites than you're supposed to...since you're taking the supplements. I hear those diet pills strip your body of it's nutrients, and since you're not eating much I don't think that'd be a good idea. Just a thought. Keep us updated.
ReplyThanks, I think I may stop taking them.
I weigh 136 after just one day. :)
ReplyMy goal is 115
Wow, 3 lbs in 1 day that's GREAT. Please keep us updated.
ReplyI haven't posted in quite awhile, but I just read everyone's posts. I love hearing them!
Sadly...I gained weight. I gained 3lbs, and still shockingly enough, I'm not mad. My dad just had a reality check with me and told me something I'd love to share with everyone here wanting to change.
"Everyone falls off the bandwagon, what's important is not staying off. If you fall off, just put yourself in check, and get right back on."
That's what I'm remembering. I fell off, and today I'm back on. Now instead of 5, I'm 8 pounds away from being 200. I can do it!
Everyone else, keep posting! You give me so much motivation to do this! Once I reach 200 I get to go clothes shopping, courtesy of my father...I do need a new wardrobe ;)
I'll weigh myself Wed. and let everyone know
Have a good week!
ReplyCool- good to see you guys.
I went ahead and weighed again this morning, so 8 pounds total. I'm feeling pretty good. Heart was beating really fast this morning. Hmmm.
I added Dr. Lewis as a friend on facebook. lol
Today is his birthday, apparently.
We may go on a trip for Thanksgiving, so that will be motivation. That and Halloween. Maybe I can pick out a risque costume to work toward!
ReplyToday I had a lunch meeting at one of our client's (which is a kinda fancy restaurant). I got a chicken salad sandwich with a side of cavatapi pasta salad. My boss and coworker were eating with me. They finished their plates, and I ate about 1 forkfull of pasta and 1/2 of the sandwich. It was good. BUT it was more like 10 bites. I guess I could skip dinner. We shall see.
I watched a couple of videos on theslimmingstation site. The girl on there said that she was used yo eating 5 bites and went to a wedding and ate 7 bites and had to go home sick because she felt so full. I have not had that experience. I'm sure I couldn't pig out at this point (and don't want to), but I didn't feel sick eating 10 instead of 5.
I've been really stressed lately and instead of turning to food, I went to Target and wandered around for about an hour last night. Proud of myself for that.
Hope you guys are doing well.
