Col-Pop: Chicken and Soda in One Container
From South Korea comes the Col-Pop: a wonderful fast food container that allows both chicken nuggets and soda to peacefully coexist together.
Col-Pops are from BBQ Chicken - a fast food franchise.
Popcorn chicken sits on the top. Beneath lies the ice-cold soda - accessible with a straw. Kevin at Serious Eats does an unusually intimate investigation on the item.
Will the chicken go cold? It seems that the time it takes for people to scarf down the chicken is not long enough for a cool-down.
The 32 ounce container appears to hold about 18 fluid ounces of soda.

Eeek!
ReplyDrinking diet coke causes head aches.
ReplyI hate to admit it, but I think that's extremely cool. I don't dine on fast food unless I'm near death, but I think the idea is rather clever. It would cut down on waste products.
Death to all chickens.
=^.^=
ReplyThis is so wrong on so many levels. It makes my head spin. Can't people eat a piece of lettuce?
ReplyJust because you CAN invent something, doesn't mean you should.
ReplyI'm most irritated when those really skinny folks are constantly wolfing down fast food, chips and other junk and never gain an inch. Doesn't mean they're healthy, but they sure smirk a lot.
ReplyAnd thus, the evidence that people are getting even lazier--we can't even hold multiple things in our hands. I'd make comments about cell phones, but that's just a personal hatred of the things coming out.
ReplyIt was only a matter of time, I think. Food companies are making just about everything in cupholder-shaped containers so people can take full advantage of the 32 cupholders in their SUVs and minivans. Having the soda under the chicken is kind of a gross idea though. I would think that would make either the chicken get too cold or the soda get too warm.
ReplySpectra, you are just unjustifiable hating Apple Pie American Food Corporations. Makes you a traitor to this great nation! In fact anyone who bad-mouths the corn industry is a traitor to AmeriKKKa!!!! Heil Bush!
ReplySouth Korea is a slim county in comparison to USA, i dont think this design is spawned out of peoples laziness, or peoples obsession with fast food, probably more novelty and name branding. If anything its probably a good thing, looks to me like you'd get a smaller serving of both chicken and soda.
ReplyIt's rather less tricky than having the chicken under the soda, I should think.
There is a crazy amount of cupholders in 'family' vehicles, like minivans.
I suppose one could keep a small salad or serving of fruit/veg in place of the chicken. I don't think it's federal law that one has to eat only chicken out of the cup.
Replyway gross.
ReplyFree markets rule.
ReplyBan all FrankenChicken!
ReplyToo funny!
Replyit looks like it could cut down on portion sizes?
ReplyI wouldn't eat/drink it, but it could cut down on waste!
Replyi think we might be putting too much thought into it. it's merchandising. someone thought is was cool and would sell. so they patented it and bam, they're seeing dollar signs out the ying-yang
ReplyI suppose if each cup was separately insulated, it might work (and be highly marketable in this multitasking--unfortunately--society we live in), but not with nothing but paper separating the two. YUCK!
ReplyCoke + Chicken? Already been done:

ReplyThis way you can eat and drink at the same time.”
To say nothing of driving the car. Look, it’s not that I haven’t had lots of “fun” repairing people after car accidents, and I will be there for you if you, unfortunately, are involved in one, but, please, your number one job while at the wheel is to drive your vehicle, and please wear your seatbelt.
Thank you very much!
ReplyWho are you to lecture people on how they can drive. Off to the re-education camp for you!
ReplyLecturing People 101. It's a required course for all medical students :-)
ReplyDr. J.--Or you could just do what I did to free myself of the "drinking/eating and driving" habit: Get a car with a manual transmission. When I drive, I have to have one hand to steer and one to shift, leaving me no extra hands to drink a soda. That's why European cars have no cupholders...maybe they're on to something?
At least I've never tried applying makeup while driving...my husband saw a lady doing that the other day and he was amazed that she wasn't dead or that she hadn't poked her eye out with a mascara wand.
ReplyIt is a $230 fine if you don't drive with both hands on the steering wheel here, so no soda drinking unless your car is parked.
I learned that the hard way. I left work one day, bought a soda, and sat in my parked car to drink it. A guy double-parked behind me and gestured to ask me to move the car and let him take my spot. I obliged by just moving the car out of the spot, into the parking lane, not into traffic, while holding the soda can, then sitting there and finishing it. Got a fine for "dangerous driving" and had to take a 2h seminar.
ReplyLOL
Maybe the next step for the industry will be to invent a "feed-bag" design like they use on horses to try and "capture" the more difficult cases like you!
ReplyThey will fail :-)
I saw somethign similar on a TV show once. A girl invented a container for the movie theater that had popcorn and soda together in a container like that.
ReplyOMG!
ReplyI tend to agree on everything here (cool idea / hate fast food) except the bit about it cutting down on waste products. It's a cup inside a cup -- two cups. How would it cut down on waste products?
But I think it could be a great idea for picnics and cocktail parties and other events where one is expected to balance a plate and a cup at the same time.
ReplyThis is simply mind-boggling!! o.0
ReplyAt least they separate the two instead of letting the chicken float in the soda. That really would be gross.
ReplyThat is digusting. Knowing our culture it will take off here in North America.
