The Hawaii Chair

This has to be one of the stupidest and most hilarious workout devices invented.
The Hawaii Chair claims it will provide a "complete fat burning aerobic workout". I swear the people in the infomercial are struggling to keep a straight face.
It's a chair with a motor strapped beneath it. The base of the chair gyrates you around as you attempt to go about your business (yes the screen-cap to the right shows a guy trying read a book while wiggling around on his Hawaii Chair).
You can get it for $293.96 from Perfect USA.

omg that is hilarious! They really can barely keep a straight face
ReplyDo you 2x the results if you are wearing the "diet shoes"?
ReplySo much time must have gone into planning this thing. I'm really quite blown away that people can be so lazy as to buy it - maybe they don't. Seems like a lot of work though to design and build this and find out that you'll have to build a vibrating book holder to go with it. On the other hand, it may be good for those who can't exercise in normal ways. I'm guessing now...
ReplyOh man, I saw this on Ellen the other day and I just about fell out of my chair laughing!! It looks like a mechanical bull crossed with a swivel chair. I wonder if it really does work your abs or if it just makes you look like an idiot. I kind of want to get one just to have at parties to see what happens when people get kind of drunk and try it out. It could be very entertaining :)
Replyi thought that was some kind of spoof. it can't be for real. wtf?
Replyi think this chair's amazing for abs ""its also great to add some diffrent typ for our exsercise routine i wish the gym i go to have somthin like that
ReplyLOL
omg my boss is having a meeting in the conference room next to my desk and i'm having a REALLLLY hard time not laughing my ass off...
ReplyMy stomach muscles hurt from laughing at Ellen in that chair!
ReplyCompletely hysterical!!
It reminds me of being stuck on the phone and having to get to the bathroom.
ReplyI must say Ellen seemed a bit winded, perhaps the aerobic effect must include lots of laughter.
I don't think this will lose you any weight, but it looks like it could strengthen abdominal muscles. I say this as someone who's sister-in-law has one of those horse-riding machines, and those suckers can really make your tummy sore the next day.
ReplyThis might actually work. You won't get strong, but should build endurance, with some hypertrophy and tightening of the muscles as well.
ReplyOk, Kailash are you intentionally being dense?
ReplyAnd who is paying for your damaged backbone???
ReplyNote the the upper body is kept erect. The core muscles have to fire in every direction to maintain this posture. Who's the one being dense?
I'm not saying this is the best workout, but it would work. Especially if one scrapped the arm rests and the back of the chair.
ReplyROFLMAO!!!! Ellen cracks me up every time, but this is hilarious. I don't know how those people kept a straight face--they must be getting paid, this can't be real.
ReplyHilarious product!
But it seems to be yet another example of "fitness" equipment aimed at people who think they can achieve the benefits of exercise without actually exercising...

ReplyLike I said earlier, you're just trying to play the straight man but it's not working.
Replyi can feel my back going out just looking at it!
ReplyIt reminds me of the old excercise bikes with motorized pedals like my grandmother used to have. What kind of work out is that?
ReplyI would think that simply walking would make you loose more weight than the Hawaii Chair.
So my question is...
What do you think is the single best
reason why people fail with weight loss and
why it is so? Is it because they’re lazy or are they tricked by advertizing like the Chair or fast food and they don’t know any better.
Why people say they need to get healthy when they're doing viceversa?

Take care
ReplyI have sciatica problems and i'm only in my thirties if I would ever even consider this chair that would mean back surgery for sure then just add wheels to it cause I'll NEVER walk again. What a HUNK OF JUNK!! And the sad part is they want over $200.00 for it. Someone was doing some SERIOUS drug use when they invented this piece of crap. OMG!!
ReplyI have to say that video made my laugh. Having that chair at your office is hilarious!
Reply"It feels so good on my... abs." ;) Suuuuure, that's what he was going to say... sure. If I were a millionaire and wanted to blow $300 on an ass equivalent of a foot massager, I'd buy a Hawaii Chair. But I'm not, so I won't.
ReplyThe Hawaii Chair WORK! My mom has been using it for over 6 months and she loses 10lbs (no more fat around the tummy). She works night shift and got tired after dinner (around 2a.m.)so she got the chair to exercise before going to bed. That way she would not have stomachace (if you eat and go to bed right away, you can develop an ulcer). Anyway, old people like my grandma may want to try this product too. My grandmother uses it and it help with her back pain. I've heard lots of good comments about this product.
ReplyThe Ellen clip was hilarious!!!
ReplyHaha! That is retarded and totally not the hula or hawaiian. I would know. I've lived here my entire life. It is funny though.
ReplyAlso, when they said the word hula they showed a clip of a bunch of Tahitian dancers, That cracks me up.
ReplyThis chair has been greatly mismarketed. It should have never been displayed as an exercise apartus.
It should have been marketed as a health tool to help with lower lumbar issues.
I came across this chair recently, pre-owned. My lower back had completely locked up. My doctors did not offer me a cortizone shot for immediate help.
Just prescriptions for muscle relaxers and pain relievers. They did not help.
I was in such intense pain when I tried to turn over in bed, or to sit upright.
Within using the Hawaii Chair, I could feel a difference within minutes. After about two weeks, my back, though still hurting, allowed me to walk without nearly as much pain. I'm still having a problem trying to lift my legs, but at least I can put my own socks and shoes on by myself.
There is some benefit to this chair, when it is used as a theraputic device, rather than as a gimmick.
I am sincere about this. This is no paid endorsement.
I am an almost fifty year old minister. My back was injured in a severe car accident on Feb 1, 1998.
Thank you.
