Proposal to Ban Obese People From Restaurants

Lawmakers in the state of Mississippi have created a bill to prohibit restaurants from serving food to obese people.

Bill 282 reads:

Any food establishment to which this section applies shall not be allowed to serve food to any person who is obese, based on criteria prescribed by the State Department of Health...

The bill goes onto say:

The State Department of Health shall prepare written materials that describe and explain the criteria for determining whether a person is obese, and shall provide those materials to all food establishments to which this section applies. A food establishment shall be entitled to rely on the criteria for obesity in those written materials when determining whether or not it is allowed to serve food to any person.

Typically - a person is classified obese when their BMI is over 30. Mississippi is one of the heaviest states - with 66.7% of people overweight or obese.

Don't expect this bill to get anywhere.

No, what we really need are government-monitored cameras in our kitchens to make sure we aren't overeating at home.

Worse than communism, this is a form of fascism, and this kind of hatred must be stopped. It shows the utter stupidity of people who think they reserve the right to judge others whom they cannot or do not know. A significant portion of the obese population struggles with metabolic and other issues that make eating even "normal" amounts of food fat-inducing. We're talking about an illness that requires compassion, not a vice that requires some kind of satanic or divine retribution.

This really kinda sounds bad to me... personally in my opinion... but I really think this is discrimination. Obesity is a problem, but that's why you have people around you and family members. They CAN help you and all... If they want to be that way, fine, let them be obese. But don't go messin' other people's lives just so you make yourself happy and go like "Oh, my mission is done and I made everyone skinny." Not many people want to be fat, but some people do and some are naturally born like that. Who knows? You could be fat and live as long as 120 years. Well, not to be discriminating or anything... but I don't think that obesity should be a big deal. Obesity is a personal problem, not a national or statewide issue. Those who are obese have that problem to face on they're own. They can tell someone or whatever. It's their responsibility. I mean, would you like to go to a restaurant and be refused a seat because you're obese, but you think you aren't? How would your feelings be hurt? Would you be embarassed about the people around you? If you had a party at a restaurant and every single one of your friends are going, you can't, 'cause apparently, you're obese. Me, I'd sue the state... that actually might be too extreme of me... but still...so... ya... I'm done with my rights speech... thx... ^_^

Why are all of you fatasses so defensive? You have a problem, admit to it, instead of calling the government "communist"(please go back to school and learn about communism, because this bill has absolutely nothing to do with communism) put down the fork. Instead of getting hardcore with your keyboard trying to protect your fatcells, go out and go for a jog, it's not that hard. Don't try to come up with excuses for your fatness, thats all this country ever does, comes up with excuses for peoples problems. "Oh my child is not poorly raised, they have ADHD" "Oh I don't over eat, it's genetic/slow metabolism" GET OVER IT, YOU'RE FAT, GO JOG, FATASS.
