Power Diet Shoes

Would you get heavier shoes in order to burn more calories?

That's exactly what Power Diet Shoes are - a Korean invention that allows small weights to be inserted into specialized walking shoes.

Apparently you can burn 300 calories by walking 30 minutes.

A look over the technique involved shows that a lot of thought has gone into these shoes. The weights appear to be .1. kg up to 1.4 kg per foot.

It's not a new idea - I remember various hard-core runners strapping on ankle-weights to get that extra intensity going.

So why did they call it Power "Diet" - when diet has nothing to do with it? Here is the answer:

P and D are the English initials of ‘Power Diet’ Shoes. The letter ‘P’ expresses the de-sire of today’s society to ensure a healthy lifestyle.

Okay. That makes no sense whatsoever.

Note: This is not an ad but an editorial feature about something quirky I came across in my daily trawl of the web.

Haha! What does 'D' express then? D = DON'T buy. Just joking.

Even though the weights are relatively light, I wonder if they did any tests on the impact of these shoes on the knees and joints, especially upon those who are overweight.

Good idea!

"The letter ‘P’ expresses the de-sire of today’s society to ensure a healthy lifestyle" how does the letter P express desire for health? do people even listen to the words that come out of their mouths? doesn't make sense at all, although the concept of the shoe does. but, i'll stick to my good old fashioned ankle weights and platform shoes :)

Something was lost in translation methinks.

Take that weight, quadruple it a few times, and put it on the end of a barbell! Seriously -- if you do some straight lifting, you can make your walks as leisurely as you like and still shed inches.

It will nicely complement my new diet suit made of chain metal.

It can also double for self-defense, while out walking in a rough neighborhood. That is, I imagine getting kicked by those shoes to be quite unpleasant.

The idea is nice and not that unusual. This method is often used during work out, by wearing ankle weights. Hope someone buys them and try! :)

I wear ankle weights around the house sometimes. I don't know if it helps or not.

I suspect the people in the flat downstairs would not appreciate it if I bought a pair of those... ;-)

Well, I guess it makes sense that you would burn more calories with the extra weight, but I agree that it is nothing new, it's the same principle as the ankle weights. I always avoided the ankle weights because I figured that the most likely consequence of using them would be more muscular calves, and if there's one thing I don't need it's that. I can't even buy cute boots with a zip because heredity and walking has given me calf muscles to spare. If only I could relocate some of those to my abs!

Sounds like a recipe for injuries to me. Ugh!

Wow, wouldn't that be bad for your knees?

I don't know if I'd like these or not. I used to wear ankle weights when I walked, but I'd never wear them when I run because there is too much of a chance of getting injured.

It seems that wearing a weighted vest is the safest way to add more calorie burn to an aerobic activity. As Spectra said, weights far from the center of the body, like on ankles or wrists, increases the chances of an injury.

Ankle weights and shoes are a great idea if you like improper gait and the resulting muscle injuries from it. There's a reason it died off in the 80s!

regarding them being bad for fat peoples knees. come on. are you serious? fat people are bad for fat peoples knees. the amount of excess weight we carry is bad for us. so adding a few in our soles should do us too much harm.

Hey Everyone,

The new PDS shoe really is comfortable and safe. I have been wearing these for about 3 months. They aren't too heavy but just enough to comfortably walk in them and see results.. and the 2 sets of insoles are a good option if the weight becomes too much..

check out the North American site - www.pdshoes.com

cheers

Those make as much sense as ankle weights only this is something you can wear all the time without anyone really knowing.
