The Black Book of Hollywood Diet Secrets

Are you obsessed with celebrity diet 'secrets' - those tabloid tidbits that appear like clockwork in every gossip magazine?
Authors Kym Douglas and Cindy Pearlman have rounded them all up and made a book out of it: The Black Book of Hollywood Diet Secrets.
Whether or not you should take such a book seriously is questionable. Celebrity diet tips are at best silly and at worst dangerous. The tips are also anecdotal - how can you really be sure that Jennifer Lopez sniffs grapefruit oil and should you even care?
You too can look and feel like an A-lister:
- John Cusack avoids everythings white (flour, sugar, and wheat).
- Oprah Winfrey uses wulong slimming tea.
- Heidi Klum and Cindy Crawford take a few sips of vinegar before dinner because the "vinegar kills your hunger pangs". (Interesting - because the Ultimate New York Diet counts Heidi Klum as one of its success stories -- and vinegar-sipping is not a part of the plan).
- Apparently asparagus, parsley, and dried prunes are a celebrity staple due to their "ability to repress hunger and reduce bloating".
- Carmen Electra and Jennifer Lopez carry around a vial of grapefruit oil. Apparently the "aroma that affects your liver enzymes, which activates the nerves that cause fats to be broken down and burnt off.".
That's about enough of celebrity wisdom. Who cares.
Being a first-rate version of yourself always beats being a second-rate version of someone else.

Great - - - now we can be as stupid as celebrities.

Replywow- i bet a lot of women wont have to buy this book- i know i have at least half of these "diet secrets" in my magazine rack right now LOL
ReplyBeing a first-rate version of yourself always beats being a second-rate version of someone else.
How true!
ReplyProbably about the only sensible thing on there is John Cusack's avoidance of white crap. Even with it just being an excerpt, I doubt anything more intelligent shows up.
ReplyYou know what I use to kill hunger pangs? Eating small balanced meals every several hours.
But that must be crazy. ;)
ReplyNo offense, and I love the guy, but John Cusack is not someone I'm going to take diet advice from. The last pics I saw of him were extremely puffy, plus I understand one of his main food groups is cigarettes.
ReplyPersonally, this stuff gives me a giggle. Reminds me of some of the stupid stuff I've tried in past and that the stars are human, too. Hopefully, the book is not suggesting these "tips" in a serious manner.
ReplyAwesome.
I only compare myself to my past self. Nothing else comes close.
ReplyThis seems like nonsense designed to get desperate people to part with their cash. Fine if you're buying the book for a giggle, but dangerous if it's taken seriously by teenagers desperate to emulate their favourite celebrity.
ReplyThey could really just put one sentence in the book:
ReplyBe born with lucky genes OR go around hungry most of the time and exercise like a maniac.
Noooooooooooooooooooooooo!
ReplyThe problem with the whole "celebrity diet" thing is that these people are really being paid to look like they do. They can hire personal trainers and personal chefs. When they are between movies, they can work out every day for 4 hours, if needed. These are not 9-5'ers here.
ReplyThese tips sound pretty ri-DONK-ulous. But I do like prunes.
ReplyI'm betting that the prunes are a popular food because they clean you out like nothing else. Lots of actors probably eat them before they have to do nude scenes so they'll "rid their bodies of impacted fecal matter", lol. But yeah, I'm not really going to take diet advice from most celebrities because I already know how most of them stay thin: cocaine, cigarettes, and excessive working out with 80 million personal trainers. This might be kind of a cool book to read if you're just nosy about celebrity diets. It's not that useful though.
ReplyIs there a chapter dedicated to "How to hire a personal chef to cook all your meals for you"?
There are no secrets...and last time I checked most celebrities workout for a role and then get fat when they are not making millions. Yeah...my idols.
ReplyCheck out the customer reviews on this book -- most of them have only reviewed one other book (by the same author!). One guy has reviewed a bunch of other books, but they're all self-helpy or get rich quick in real estate books.
Somehow, not a ringing endorsement.
ReplyIf someone was paying me the big bucks to look like a movie star, I'd look like one. Until that happens, I'm going to steer clear of detox cleansing drinks and the prune diet.
ReplyI love this book! It's more of a juicy read for people who like US Weekly than a serious diet book. (Although there's some good advice from very good dietitians.) I actually interviewed Kym and Cindy for a story we did in the January issue of Glamour, and they were FANTASTIC. Some of the things celebs do are hilarious...(and sad).
ReplyThese kinds of books always sell like crack lol.
ReplyCourtney B- Exactly!!
ReplyThat's what I always say, who wouldn't look good with that kind of money and time. It's a lot different for those of us in the "real" world!
we always want to know how they look so good even with out plastic surgery now we know and can look as good as them i will try these diets and they most likly will work but if they dont i gave it a go so dont bag the writers or the celebrities these people only care about what they look like and good on them because too many people in this world and fat and ugly so fix it
ReplyCelebrity's are just like the rest of us and have the same weight and health challenges that we do. Just because some celebrity tries some really "out there" tactic doesn't mean everyone should try it.
