Food Pairing: What Goes With What?

Here's an interesting site I stumbled across - that will help out with food ideas. Each of the main foods is surrounded by a diagram of appropriate food combinations.

Which fruits go best with cooked chicken? Which cheeses? What about the vegetables?

There are some rather unusual pairings: coffee alongside mushroom, beetroot or potatoes?

Go see Food Pairing - there is also a section on interchangeable herbs.

What a delightful idea! I look forward to seeing in the future more of the specific flavors that these different foods have in common.

If only chocolate went with everything ;) They do say that chicken tastes like everything don't they, so within theory it can pair with lots of different foods!

I experiment with food combos often. You'd be surprised at what goes together and tastes surprisingly good. Ever tried melon and ham sandwiches? Peanut butter and cucumber? I often put a little cayenne pepper in my chocolate recipes and it adds the perfect "kick" to them. Another interesting combination: chocolate and pork.

On a side note, does anyone watch "Iron Chef America" on the Food Network? I think that show was the original weird food pairing show...one chef made squid ink ice cream and another guy made lobster cappuccino. Some combos are good and apparently (according to the judges), some aren't so good!

Seems a bit random and outlandish for practical use, to be honest. Coffee and tortillas?

Clam and chicken? I doubt very much whether that would make it onto any but the most dodgy restaurant menus :)

I don't find that makes a lot of sense, but maybe it is just me :)
