Bizarre Dessert Award: Oreo Pizza

dominot.jpg

If you are having a chocolate craving after your pizza, then Domino's Pizza now has the answer.

It is called the Oreo Dessert Pizza.

If you have no idea what I am talking about, then you probably have not seen the “slightly bizarre” commercial.

So what exactly is in this dessert?

According to the official Domino's website, The Oreo Dessert Pizza is basically a sweetened wheat flour crust, covered in vanilla sauce and icing and then topped off with mounds of Oreo cookie crumbs. (Thus giving the apropos beard above.)

The ingredients are pretty much what you would expect in a pizza covered in cookies, although there seems to be a double serving of high fructose corn syrup in the vanilla sauce.

Interestingly, the calorie breakdown for “1-slice” of the Oreo Dessert Pizza is actually less than an average piece of pizza. One small slice contains 120 calories, 20 grams of carbohydrates and 4 grams of fat.

Even though it is not that calorically dense, judging by all the unhealthy ingredients, I think I would still prefer to eat my pizza alone.

Let us know your opinion if you have tried the Domino's Oreo Dessert Pizza.

Sweet pizzas are a common thing in Brazil. They don't have tomato sauce, of course, and may or may not have cheese. Some, like banana-cinnamon, guava preserve, dulce de leche, and "California" (usually a mix of canned fruit cocktail + some fresh fruit like strawberries and kiwis) always have cheese. The other ones tend to be a crust topped with chocolate bits that is then melted, then topped with extra crap once out of the oven (rice crispies, strawberries, meringues, shredded coconut, peanuts, or even a scoop of ice cream), with no cheese.

Of course, some places make pizzas with both chocolate and mozzarela on them. The idea of that is revolting.

As a rule these pizzas are all pretty gross, except for the banana one. I can't knock that one as a lover of sweet-savoury foods.

Sounds like a great idea. I would never buy one, but I almost feel inspired to make my own using REAL whole wheat flour and Newman-O's (Paul Newman's organic version of Oreos that taste SO much better!)

Kinda similar to all the Dairy Queen dessert pizzas. With this moderation is key....but we all know how often that happens.
