Raw For 30 Days: Can Diabetes Be Cured?
Raw for 30 Days is an independent documentary film that chronicles six Americans with diabetes who switch to a diet consisting entirely of vegan, organic, live, raw foods in order to reverse diabetes naturally.
It's almost an inverse "Supersize Me" if you will.
A medical team was established to monitor various health variables of the subjects. The diet: "No meat, no dairy, no alcohol, no caffeine, no refined foods, no junk food or fast food of any kind, no candies, no sugar".
The 8 minute trailer is fascinating, The results... staggering.
After reversing all her symptoms and coming off all medication, one woman asks "I don't see why my doctors don't know about this... I'm gonna make them aware..."
One thing I couldn't quite understand was: Did the subjects include those with Type 1 Diabetes? In one part the narrator mentions people coming "off insulin".
Hey all, "raw" is definitely the way to go! I don't know if seafood was included in that diet (sometimes fish isn't considered "meat") but the rule of thumb is that the closer that something looks to its original, the better it is for you!
ReplyBroccoli is good. Hamburger is not!
Is there somewhere you can order pre-prepared meals for this diet? The hardest thing about changing eating habits I've found, is the amount of food preparation you have to do. If there was somewhere we could buy all our meals pre-prepared, it'd be a whole lot easier....
Replythe person who said diabetes might be caused by inflamation might have something. I remember reading that Dr. Weil did a lot of research about inflammation and disease. Info on this is at http://www.drweil.com/drw/u/ART02012/anti-inflammatory-diet. I'm not advocating for Dr. Weil, but it really makes a lot of sense to me. In one of my nutritional courses in college we were shocked that many of the vegetable oils (even organic cold pressed) are responsible for a lot of inflammation in the body. I eat organic and mostly vegetarian which I thought was healthy until I learned about the foods that caused inflamation. Many of the inflamatory foods are in the vegetarian and vegan categories.
ReplySimply Raw is very good documentary. Lot of important details, not only about what needs to be done, but also stories how people are reacting to different food environment.
There does not seem to be just one but two people with Type 1. One - which told two times that all doctors he ever saw told him that he will get injections during his life (and who went to Mexico to buy some Tequila), and second one (he was mentioned as Type 2 at the beginning of the movie) who had best results (at paper - medical examination from before he went to Tree of life - it can be seen that he is producing very low amount of insulin - c-peptid).
The movie is very good, it shows that it is possible to fight diabetes and to achieve better, healthier life.
ReplyEveryone knows that food is the key to managing diabetes. Of course a raw food diet with minimal carbohydrates is going to reduce your blood glucose levels! If you're not eating carbs, then your sugar levels will be low! It's self explainatory. This documentary seems like another fad to me. I would like to see the long term effect of this "diet" as 30 days is not long enough to say they have found a "cure". I don't think they can claim that they've "cured" it but they can say they have "reversed" it. The diabetics would have to maintain this sort of diet and lifestyle for the rest of their lives to benefit from it. Plus what's wrong with a bit of protein? Protein does not raise sugar levels, so why not throw in a bit of lean meat? I'm sure that if these people went back eating what non diabetic people eat everday, their blood glucose levels will increase again.
