What Do Your Clothes Say About You?

For most people, getting ready in the morning is done in a hurry-scurry manner.
If you’re anything like me, and mornings aren't your strongest suite, it’s hard to be enthusiastic about your appearance when you’d much rather be back in bed.
But, despite my lack of morning cheeriness, I still know the importance of dressing the way I want to feel for my day. I might not be in that mood when I step out of bed, but putting on a fun ensemble is a good start to making my day great.
When you get dressed, ask yourself these questions to see what your clothes are saying about you.
- Do I wear all black? Sure it’s slimming, but isn’t it a tad boring, and a tad too predictable? How can you add more color?
- Do my clothes fit baggy? What are you hiding from? Do you think big clothes help conceal your size? Did you know that big clothes simply make one’s body look bigger? Hiding in your big clothes isn’t helping.
- Are my clothes too tight? Do you need to invest in some new clothing pieces with your real size in mind? A few simple rules: your tummy probably shouldn't be showing (unless you’re at the pool), and if your pants give you “stomach overhang” you need to invest in some new ones.
From time to time, it's important to ask yourself if you are in a clothing rut. Remember, the way we dress is the way we present ourselves to the world. Represent your truest self by dressing the way you want to feel!
I find I just wear my hoodie sweater even when I'm going out. I jazz it up with a scarf or something but I just can't seem to get rid of my comfy hoodie!
I really need to go shopping.

ReplyI often wear black, but I always put other colors with it to indeed liven it up (today is black skirt and boots + red leggings and top). Though I admit my case has more to do with personal taste and financial needs: black goes with virtually everything, so I don't have to worry too much about having tons of clothes but nothing that matches anything else because colors and patterns are off.
ReplyI like wearing all black, and my unicolor clothing selections don't have anything to do with being in a rut. I look good in black and I feel good in black. In fact, it's not a choice I'd lump in with wearing pants so tight they give you a muffin top!
ReplyI have to argue about the baggy clothes. I know baggy clothes make people looking bigger, but I'm not hiding anything. It's expensive to have to keep buying new clothes because of the amount of weight I've been losing (lost over 25% of my body fat this past year for those who need to know). So I have a few pieces that fit great with the rest being baggy. I replace pants after they start falling off my hips, and shirts on a needed basis. I plan on getting a new wardrobe when I meet my long term goal, but for now, I rather spend my funds on keeping my physical trainer.
ReplyI did the baggy clothes for all too long- but I didn't mind because I was losing weight. I didn't want to be spending a lot of money on clothes that I knew wouldn't fit 1 month later. Once I got to a weight that I was pretty sure I'd be able to maintain, I bought new clothes. Months later, they still fit! Yay! :)
ReplyLook at the Sunday NYTImes...it's August and everyone was wearing all black.
ReplyEvery popular colour is called "the new black"... So, if you like black and it looks good on you, wear it in confidence (and in the right size).
I like the old black, the new black, the borrowed black, and the blue black..what color am I wearing in the avitar....why, it's black :-)
ReplyI wore a lot of baggy stuff when I was losing weight simply because I couldn't afford clothes that fit half the time. Once I reached my goal weight, I got a lot of clothes that fit right and donated all my "fat clothes". I have some stuff that's tight, but it's supposed to be that way...it's not because I've outgrown them or anything. And though I love black, I don't actually own too much of it because it depresses me to not wear color.
ReplyAll my clothes fit fine (actually, some of them are a little baggy, but that's just how they're designed to be), but I do do the black bit sometimes, when I'm feeling uninspired, or my other clothes are dirty (black is so forgiving).
One thing I ought to mention about the overhand thing, sometimes people will have a body type where their hips and legs are relatively small (I'm talking spindly here), but they do have a larger stomach, so buying bigger pants would just mean they'd have their pants falling down all the time. I don't personally have that problem, being a pear, but a lot of the ladies at my church are more apple-y.
ReplyThey say I'm freakin hot!!! ;)
ReplyIm such a mess...I feel so indentified with the las description...=(
I still have my clothes from 4 years ago n i still wanna believe im a size M =(
I guess I gotta go get a pair of jeans n some nice less revealing tops
Replyi hate hate hate ill-fitting clothes. i figure since i'm shelling out my hard-earned money to buy clothes, they should fit me at the very least. i recently donated a huge shopping bag full of clothes that no longer fit or were no longer in style to the salvation army. they were all in good condition. and the best part is that now i have more closet space!
but i do have a bone to pick with the latest styles. i go shopping in an effort to pick up a cute outfit or two, but i come home empty-handed because i don't like many of the current styles. babydolls and trapeze tops and dresses look cute in magazines and on hangers, but i feel they just make me look 9 months pregnant. i'm short and a size 0/00, so i feel like i'm wearing a tent. jumpers and peter pan collars remind me of my Catholic elementary school uniform and make me look like i'm 7 years old. hopefully these trends are on their way out.
it's easy to dress for work - i have good, well-fitting suit separates and blouses. when i go to school, i stick to skinny jeans/leggings with boots/flip flops/ballet flats, depending on the weather and my mood, and a coordinating top. i love the color black, but lately i've been obsessed with earth tones like brown, camel, and olive. i think i'm coming out of my earth tone phase and moving back to greys and blacks with some color here and there.
ReplyI love the mornings.
ReplyI still could care less about fashion. As long as I'm comfortable, it's all good. My SO prefers me in "workout clothes" for some reason, so it's all good on that front too. :)
I wear BLACK often and not fat.
Replywell, I'm kind'a fat i guess. lol
no, now don't vision me real fat and waring black.
I'm 10 ..well, 12 lbs over. ok?
um,well, i care about fashion and the way i look and i dont really wear black much i guess im too colorful for that just maybe black is for me once in a while. and i try to wear clothes that dont make me look fat and i just wear clothes that you know look good and are comfortable which i think everyone should do and i dont really think i should worry about looking fat since im only 11 and (according to some BMI thingies) underweight but i dont think im anorexic. i think if i were my friends would be concerned and get help for me and why am i talking so much well basically i think you should dress comfortably and in a way that makes you feel good but not in a way that makes you look like a slobby mess since you know that would make people think badly of you. well main thing is dress comfortably, dont starve yourself if you think youre fat instead of excercising, and dress to look good!
ReplyI wear black too...and I like it the way it looks on me. I too am losing weight and many inches. I have lost 45 pounds and still losing. My wardrobe is NOT really that great now but I don't want to run out and buy all new clothes until I reach my goal. So in the mean time I am wearing alot of black pants and different color shirts...and capri's....
ReplyI do feel great!!
Whenever I wear bright colors my students make fun of me. :( They seem to like black, dark blue, and gray. Even the shirt I'm wearing in my avatar photo inspires some of my students to snarky comments.
ReplyI'd just like to say that I don't wear baggy clothes because I think they make me look smaller. I do it because they're more comfortable. If I feel my clothes constantly, it's just not comfortable. Maybe I'm actually a nudist and find clothes confining, so I prefer a compromise in loose clothing, I don't know.
ReplyIf your pants give you "stomach overhang" you need to invest in a lot of exercise! :)
ReplyGirls who are tiny manage to wear pants that gives them stomach overhang too. I am horrified every time I see a girl who can't be more than a size 0 and who yet managed to squeeze herself into size 00 pants and now has weird love handles and stomach overhang that wouldn't be there otherwise.
ReplyIm 12 and i am a complete tomboy, no makeup, never worn a skirt, no tight clothes. Mostly this is because im completely embarrassed about my body, i am overweight, not really fat but i hate my legs so i always have to wear baggy jeans, people always tell me to wear tight clothes because baggy ones make you look fatter but i dont think thats tru i think if your fat and wear tiht clothes you look like a suffocated pumpkin. I would really love someone to help me lol
ReplyI like to wear black and gray, but my boyfriend and the whole world compliments me when I am in color. Spring is coming so I should be looking more "springy" and less like I am hibernating.
ReplyI end up wearing a lot of black just because I hate the other colors an item is available in. For a shirt, they'll often have black and whatever are the in colors at the time, which can be garish stuff like egg yolk yellow, pepto bismol pink, and lime green. So I end up buying the black one. If the choices were black, brown, beige, grey, navy, etc. I might be able to buy something other than black. It seems the more natural colors are only used in prints, so my wardrobe seems to be mostly prints and black.
