Cosmetic Surgery: Would You? Have You?
Earlier this year the FDA approved the use of silicone gel-filled breast implants after years of health concerns.
This comes at a time when cosmetic surgery has never been more popular. Would you undertake a cosmetic surgery procedure? Why? If you have had surgery - what have you gained from it?
Check out these figures from Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.
In 2006:
- 11.5 million cosmetic procedures were performed in the US.
- Since 1997 there has been a 446% increased in the total number of procedures.
- The Top 5 procedures were liposuction (403,684); breast augmentation (383,886); eyelid surgery (209,999); abdominoplasty (172,457); and breast reduction (145,822).
- Americans spent just under $12.2 billion on cosmetic procedures.
That is a lot of people and an amazing amount of money. It seems that tummy tucks, boob jobs, and wide-open eyes are all the rage.
Again -- what would you (or do you) truly gain from these procedures? Think carefully. Almost everyone has parts of their body that they would like to change.
What motivates you to make that change? Media imagery, significant others, health issues?

hi every body im suffering from celliute in my thighs, hips and stretch marks too i wonder if i had the liposuction surgery or anythin to remove the fat my celliute would be complitly gone and is this surgery leaves any scars im really worried about that .i heard there is laser surgery to remve z srtetch marks too if any body had the liposuction or knows anything about the stretch marks leser tell me plzzzzzzzz
ReplyLiposuction doesn't remove celullite, it removes fat, and it can even make the appearance of cellulite worse cause you have more loose skin over it when the fat is removed.
Any kind of surgery or treament for stretch marks can only improve it a bit, since it is a scar. If they are white already, forget it - a reputable doctor will tell you there is nothing that can be done.
The best treatment for both cellulite and stretch marks is: walk to a drugstore. Buy a bottle of self-tanner. Apply to your legs as directed. Both will become nearly invisible, and all it will cost you is like $2.
Replyhas anybody heard about the beurer soft laser thats almost 4every thing ,scars, burn, stretch marks, acne.wrinkles, spider veins, sun damage.i was just reading about that and i wonder if any body used it..the website is www.innovativemedicine.com."'"""thanks jan for answering me
ReplyMary, I think the best thing to do if you are set on having treatments like that is go to a dermatologist and have him/her assess your situation and recommend options. But go to a dermatologist that is not the one doing this type of laser treatment him/herself, otherwise the rec will be colored by a desire to make money.
As for the cellulite, the best thing to do is to exercise to lose body fat overall. Cellulite is not an affliction, it is just fat. If you reduce fat, you reduce cellulite.
ReplyRedPanda - just wanted to let you know about my favorite everyday bra - Bali Double Support. It comes in A-DD at least. It isn't overly sexy or hot, but it does the job or providing the necessary support without the frills, seams across the nipples, pushup, underwires, etc. I measure a 36D but wear 36DD and this is what I wear from day to day. On the discussion side, I am considering breast reduction/lift. I am 24 and have hated my chest since the other little girls in my 4th grade class started snapping my bra. It has only gotten worse as I got older and gained weight. I was up to nearly a DDD and losing weight put me on the D/DD border after the first 10 lbs, but they haven't budged in the last 20 lbs. Now they are droppy, have stretch marks, and big. They aren't firm or anything so when I do want a hot bra, I can't find one without the dreaded double boob where half of my breast hangs over the edge of the bra (even in DD). It is like extra skin on your arms or stomach. I don't know though, I just hate it but I don't want to make the wrong decision because of this conflict. You know how when you hate something so much you obsess over it and try to joke about it and make it something you don't mind? That is me and my chest. Does anyone have any advice?
ReplyI will have plastic surgery later this year. I've had 3 kids and gained and lost a lot of weight with each (and not because I was lazy, for 1 I was on bedrest, for the others my docs could not figure why I put on weight as I only ate 1700 calories a day). While my body fat is pretty good and I'm now around a size 8, I cannot lose the "pooch" effect, meaning that pants are always too small in the waist or too big in the hips. Breastfeeding/weight gain and loss has left my breasts in sad shape, and they flop around inside of bras due to lost volume, which hurts. It's both an issue of wanting to look better and the physical issues of dealing with extra stuff that kind of sits on your body like a lump of play-doh someone stuck there. If someone doesn't want to have plastic surgery, they don't have to, but they don't need to tell other people not to, either (yeah, I heard that on Dr. Phil).
ReplyI would love to have breast implants but am too scared. Not of having them done but just having a foreign object in my body. I have read some scarey stories about them and although many women are fine with them and go years and years with no problems....I don't want to take a chance and be the one woman who has a bad reaction or illness from them. The latest story I read was about a women who had one implant deflate and couldn't afford to have it removed and redone. i couldn't imagine walking around with on big boob and one deflated. I will stick with my A/small B cups. A friend of mine just had hers done and she was already a C cup. Now she is a D and they look ridiculous on her. They are very obviously fake and if I had mine done I would want a very natural look and not have them pushed up to my chin.
ReplyI'm sorry for the bad experience that you had with plastic surgery, but it seems to me that you may have chosen too big a size for your new breasts considering you were a double A. As for plastic surgery, I fully support it. However, I believe that people need to fully be aware that plastic surgery is something that needs to be taken seriously. It changes you forever, and so you need to take the time to visit different doctors, listen to different opinions, and ask yourself, am I doing this for others or because I really want this for myself? I myself plan to get plastic surgery (I am also a double A cup size) and I have wanted implants for really long. However, since I am skinny and small, I only intend to be at most a full B with implants. People need to be realistic about what plastic surgery can do. But all in all, I believe that everyone has a right to go ahead with these types of clinical procedures because there is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to look and feel better as long as you do it for yourself and not for others or for the society that we live in. especially this day in age when technology is so advanced and these procedures can be completely safe as long as they are done by professional, it makes sense to go ahead with something like this. But heads up: if you want plastic surgery, do your homework and look up and talk to different doctors, talk to people that have had plastic surgery before, and don't be stingy... if you want the job done right, well, it's most likely going to cost. All in all, if you want it for you and you have the money absolutely go for it!
Replyi definately wish to get breast implants. i breastfed my son until he was 7 months old, and that left the girls a bit on the deflated side. : ( and i wouldn't mind haveing a tummy-tuck, but we'll see where i stand on that subject once i lose 51 more lbs. i really struggle with my self esteem now, i used to weigh about 118 (i'm 5'7") before my pregnancy, and my weight sky-rocketed during my pregnancy. damn cravings. 8 months after having him i still weighed 178. but i've already lost 9 lbs, so i got some more work to do before i start makeing plans to go under the knife!

Wow... All I can say is that if your husband doesn't find you sexy and you feel as if you have to surgically alter your body to once again gain his desire, than you don't need a new body, rather a new husband.
I see what you're saying and I do agree partially. However, coming from a 32 year old who is a happily married woman and mom of two kids, I also see a different view.
Most women get plastic surgery for themselves, not for their husbands. (I think) I recently had a mini tummy tuck because altough I was not fat, I hated that the skin sagged from two pregnancies. My breasts weren't sagging yet, but I wanted them to be firmer since the skin was not quite the same after two years of nursing. I opted for a lift and love the results.
I love my new tummy, and when I try on clothes I do not have to worry about how my stomach will look. My favorite part is that my breasts look like they did 15 years ago! I only got that surgery on a whim, but I love the results better than my tummy tuck.
I guess what I am saying is that surgery is not only about vanity or trying to please a spouse. It's about reclaiming a body you once had prior to babies. Mens' bodies don't change, and I think we women have a right to get our “pre-baby” bodies back if we want.

ReplyThe joke goes,"Everyone needs an operation, it's just a matter of which operation." Cosmetic procedures can be done for a wide variety of 'problems". Done well and with patient compliance, the results can be very nice. Talk to someone who is in a surgical field to get useful information, not internet misinformation. Personally, I do not think mesotherapy is a useful procedure. As for scars, they are mimimized and hidden. All surgical procedures on the skin leave scars, but often no one besides the patient will know they are there. I hope this is helpful.
ReplyIt seems like a lot of people go to plastic surgeons for consultations and the surgeons love it when the feature is already fine, because they don't have to do as much work to "fix" it. I know for a fact that if I went in for a breast augmentation consultation, I would be leery of any surgeon that would recommend them because I KNOW I'm not a good candidate for them. I am very active, I don't have a lot of tissue to work with, and I'm pretty sure they'd end up looking terribly unnatural, sort of like Victoria Beckham's. But yeah, I mean, if you want an operation, you'll probably find a surgeon who will do it for you.
Replyi need help im suffuring from celluite back my thighs, hips and im working out to get rid of it but that didnt help at all.im getting married i wanna look really good.do u think that mesotherapy its good for cellulite or any other cosmetic .im looking for somthing to help me get rid of it but i dont wnna think about surgery coz it will leave scars ..i need ur opinion plzzz
ReplyHaving cosmetic surgery is not that bad. If you want to be more attractive, and there are no other ways to improve your appearance, it's the only way.
What's so wrong about making yourself look better?
But there's one thing we all must remember - try not to ADDICT to cosmetic surgery procedures, or you wouldn't be able to stop.
Sometimes I'm looking through other people's before and after pics and mention, that before pics are better than after. We should all think clear before having something done - do we really need the procedure we are planning?
http://plasticsergeant.com/ This site helped me a lot. It's a gallery of before and after surgery pics. Considering a surgery, look through the pics, and maybe you'll understand you don't need any.
ReplyI would have some cosmetic or plastic surgery if I feel I really need this.
ReplyMany people are really glad with the results they have:

The main thing is not having too much, it can cause a plastic surgery addiction, and you will look really awful (remember Jackie Stallonne?)
