Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie: Fat Camp Counselors?

Its so sad that its acceptable to exploit these overweight kids for the sake of entertainment. The presence of Paris and Nicole is only going to make them feel even more inadequate and hopeless. How is Nicole - clearly anorexic - in any way a suitable teacher of healthy eating practice, or a role model for the kids??

It's TV, and producers like to get ratings. Hopefully the camp and childrens families are getting paid off well enough.
Both of them, from what I can remember of more revealing pictures, are somewhat skinny-fat and maybe should begin toning and eating more (whatever they're eating now, to gain muscle mass I believe it takes a calorie surplus).

If one or other of them is seriously anorexic however, most anorexics (ED'd with anorexic tendancies) I knew have read so much on nutrition that they could well-advise many people on healthy eating, no matter what their (anorectics) habits were. The body image they give off is unsettling, but how much it affects the children may depend a great deal on their attitude).

They aren't going to do the show, from what I've heard. Apparently they refused to do a drug test, which the camp requires of all its counselors. I can't imagine WHY they'd refuse that. :P

great 2 skinny cokeheads teaching chubby kids about how to eat and what important in life...you people in Hollywood are totals creeps..all the 2 girls do is drink and snort.. When I first saw this article in my dropdown list of the feed, it cut off at the word 'fat'.
I was hoping the poor girls had gained some weight (and any time anyone gains weight in hollywood, no matter how much, or how skinny they word to start with, they're called fat, and so I though that the title continued 'Fat? No way!' or something).

From what I've read and pictures I've seen of Paris one of her greatest loves is junk food! I don't think she should be advising them on nutrition as she doesn't seem to pay much attention to it, obviously eats whatever she likes but is just lucky to have the genes she has.
Nicole might know a bit more about nutrition, having lost so much weight but she is no role model either having gone in the complete opposite extreme direction.

I agree with Linds. All TV cares about is ratings=money from advertisers. They will put anything on TV to draw attention. Responsibility is never a consideration. And like Louise pointed out, it IS exploitation.

And Paris has a 'giant nose'?? Huh? I am not a fan of Paris but I have always admired the fact that she, with all her money, did not fall for standardizing her nose, but kept her uniqueness. It is not 'giant' but suitable for her longish face. The longish nose works proportionately for her unique attractiveness.

Yes, why are we not surprised? At least the camp has standards where the TV lacks.

I'm against any reality show that exploits a child. These parents sign their children's rights away, and the kids can be humiliated at will by TV producers. (And producers are certainly not renowned for their mercy!) No matter whether it's Jenny Jones or Judge Hatchett or Dr. Phil or MTV's Juvies, when they put a child on national TV labeled as too fat, too lazy, too dumb, too violent -- too [anything negative] -- that child has a snowball's chance in hell of overcoming and growing up normal.

It's not actually a fat camp. It's a kid's camp where each week has a different theme. So they won't be picking on overweight kids.

However, I sincerely doubt they have any clue about nutrition and/or exercise.

First thing that pops into my mind... "(once again) where are the parents?" If my child was going to fat camp, it means that he already has problems with his weight, and probably with self-esteem as well, and my efforts to help him haven't worked. Or, possibly, I am using this as a further tool for his weight-loss arsenal. Either way, if I heard that these two were going to be there as "counselors", I would say "no way - either they are out, or I pull my kid and the money that comes with him". Now, if they had some other celeb (Arnold Schwarzenneger or Demi Moore come to mind) who believes in fitness, perhaps I'd have a different attitude.

This is a ratings grab in VERY poor taste. I'm all for comedy and live and let live, but I think boarders on sick and unsafe.

Cocaine is not part of one's genes. To quote Paris herself, "I get f***** in the b*** for coke". Junk food + large amounts of drugs = staying thin. Genes have nothing to do with it.

She did have a nose job, that is what gave her the weird nostrils. She just kept her nose long, but it is way thinner than it used to be. She is clearly subscribing to the blonde-blue-eyed-skinny-orange tan-nose job Hollywood ideal, not keeping her uniqueness.

Just as information, it is not possible to make a nose look any way one may want. You have to work with what tissue and shape is available. Sometimes the results can be unfortunate. Can we say Michael Jackson? Perhaps it should take two surgeons to do an operation. One to do it and the other to tell the first when to stop! :-)

I thnk it's disgusting to have those two as camp counselors. Who in their right mind would liken those two to "role models" for our children. What's more..any parent that would allow their child to attend a camp where those two would be 'counseling' should have their heads checked.

Drug use, Alcohol, DUI's, etc. Sick. Sick. Sick.

Paris's nose is a case of that. She already had a long nose but it looked good for her face. She had plastic surgery, probably trying to get a ski-slope nose, and they gave her the weird nostrils she now has, where her nose resembles a beak.

How is it relevant to her fat camp counseling? I guess in a roundabout way about self-esteem. Both of these girls clearly have very low self-esteem, from the behaviors they engage in. If they had 2 very skinny girls who were confident, like I don't know, any random ANTM contestant (most of them love themselves, a little too much even), then I wouldn't have as big a problem with this.

About the show, I heard they'd be counseling the 18+ crowd, due to their refusal to take the drug tests required to counsel minors.

But why not curvy, pale blondes? Oh because a pale-skinned but curvy blonde would be considered ugly and fat but blondes are supposed to be pale. I think the attraction of pale hair among humans is connected to the attraction of older people to youth and babies (as well as the people's distortion of Biblical presumption of light as good) as naive, perky and good (if at all, when pertaining to heroic whites).

Most women who live in Hollywood are bimbos, I'm not saying blonde superheroines are naive (how on Erebus would the current Wonder Girl, a blonde be a California girl she fights villains and she's part of the Teen Titans). Honestly not all blondes are inane, that would be an insult to pale-haired individuals. If you live in Lithuania or in northern regions of Europe (Scandinavia) and watch Scandinavian television or live with them (or are one yourself), neither all Swedes and Lithuanians are inane. nicole might be anorexic but saying that she is no matter what is wrong. i look somewhat like her only not as emanciated or whatever. im 5'5" and 88lbs and im definitely not anorexic. i probably eat twice as much as some people would have to in day just to maintain my weight. the only thing i dont eat is french fries, pop cuz i hate pop and i try to avoid candy yes chocolate as much as possible. other than that i eat pretty much everything and i have a icecream cone at least every other day as a snack along with my 3 meals and bedtime snack so please dont judge people by saying " she looks like she doesnt eat anything" ive had people say that to my face. and trust me it hurts and its a insult. i hate the way i look and i've been trying to gain weight but its extremely hard. so dont judge someone when it comes to whats on "the outside".

Em, have you been to a doctor? Your weight is dangerously low. If you truly are eating as much as you can handle, then you might have a hormonal or digestive problem, which a doctor could diagnose and help correct.

In the meantime, stick to calorically dense foods, as these pack a greater punch for the "stomach real estate". Nuts and nut butters are good. Or anything high in fat.
