Diet Coke Plus: "Healthy" Soft Drink?

Both Coca-Cola and PepsiCo will soon release vitamin-fortified soft drinks - Diet Coke Plus and Tava.
Diet Coke Plus is scheduled to come out this spring, while PepsiCo's Tava will be available in the fall.
This is in response to hurting sales of soft drinks - which may be in response to the growing obesity epidemic - soft drinks have recently been put in the spotlight as being unhealthy.
The president of Bevmark, Tom Pirko, was reported as saying that the marketing of artificially sweetened beverages as a healthy option was “a joke.” Studies by his company show that consumers increasingly find diet soft drinks unhealthy.

It's not out of the question that some may fall for this marketing campaign - but are they fooling themselves?
Hasn't anyone heard of getting your vitamins and minerals from eating a wide variety of foods, including fruits and vegetables?
Drinking diet sodas is one thing. Touting them as a “healthy” choice is quite another.

Phenylalanine is an amino acid phenyllktonurics can't digest. It becomes toxic to people with the condition as their body can't get rid of it when it accumulates. While many people go nuts about aspartame being bad for you, fact is its one of the most studied things in FDA history and has shown little evidence of toxicity to those of us without the disorder.
Personally though I prefer the taste of Sucralose (Splenda TM) over aspartame myself.
ReplyI got a can of Tava In the mail today from Pepsi. I won it by entering one of their sweeps. I must say I was impressed with the flavor and the fact it had Vitamin E, Niacin, Vitamin B6, and Chromium. 55mg of Sodium. The only thing I did not like is the fact it contained Phenylalanine, and phenyllktonurics. That I word I am not familar with. All in all, not a bad tasting drink!
ReplyThere's nothing healthy about colas as they can cause kidney stones. Non cola carbonated beverages don't seem to increase the risk of kidney stones (Sprite, 7-up, etc). Either way, be sure to drink plenty of water if you do choose to drink soda.
ReplyIt's stunning....

Reply"In combination with ascorbic acid (vitamin C), sodium and potassium benzoate may form benzene, a known carcinogen. Heat, light and shelf life can affect the rate at which benzene is formed."
Please note that all three of these ingredients are found in "vitamin enriched" soda. Watch their shelf life and pay attention to their expiration dates!
"The drink (Diet Coke Plus) was released in the United Kingdom in October 2007, available in two variants, one with vitamins B3, B12 and vitamin C, and the other containing antioxidants with added green tea and vitamin C."
ReplyI like the diet coke plus. I bought it at Ralphs and in Bestbuy.
ReplyInstead of Tava, it should be called Pepsi Perfect, like the vitamin enriched pepsi they use in movies
ReplyA friend of mine brought me a can of Diet Coke with vitamins back from Florida. I think Diet Coke with Vitamins is like cigarettes with fluoride.

This borders on unethical. They are diliberately trying to trick people.
I hope people don't fall for this, but I don't have that much faith that people will see through coke's marketing ploy.
Reply"Coke exists because there is demand for their product."
So does crystal meth.
"There is no such thing as "from nature". I challenge you to actually define that term. "
Oh, I don't know say apples, oranges, pears, you know stuff that grows as opposed to the stuff that was created in a lab by chemical or mechanical manipulation.
ReplyI'm not saying this to try to be mean or anything but you should really try to do some research and educate yourself about nutrition because all your life you gotta eat and it's going to directly affect your health and well being. I want you to have a healthy life. People don't realize how much better they can feel.
Lots of sweet QQ here
