Low-Fat Dairy Enhances Weight Loss in Diabetics
"People with the highest intake of dairy calcium had a 2.4-fold increased odds of weight loss of greater than 8 percent compared with people with the lowest intake of dairy calcium, despite consuming more calories."
Another dairy study that contradicts other studies and adds to the confusion.
Obesity Can Render Drugs Toxic
"Being obese or having a high-fat diet may make people more sensitive to drugs that aren't toxic in thin people, put them at a higher risk for cancer and even increase their risk of death from using illegal drugs."
Mental Disorders Common in Weight Loss Surgery Patients
"About two-thirds of people seeking weight-loss surgery have suffered from a psychiatric disorder at some point in their lives, and personality disorders are also common among this group." - in the American Journal of Psychiatry, February 2007
Ahhh - there's the link! I was just about to ask for it (the link to the dairy study), since it didn't show up on the main blog page. But lo and behold, here it is on the permalink page. I'm new to this blog, so maybe that's just the way it works here...
ReplyHi, that is true. I eat more yogurts now and it helps me to keep on a diet
ReplyI wonder about the whole weightloss surgery-mental issue link. It makes sense that underlying emotional issues would lead to possible obesity issues later in life. I guess once you can't medicate yourself with food anymore, your issues become that much more prevalent.
ReplySorry diet-john and all. Small technical glitch at Diet-Blog headquarters... The links should work properly now...
ReplyHere is a sobering link on mental disorders. It's like the two kinds of people 'joke', those that have been mentally ill and those that are going to be!

ReplyI guess if I eat fat-free yogurt and eat full-fat cheese, I'll then at least maintain weight, since nobody knows which dairy is good for weight loss? Hehe.
They said most of them had avoidant personality disorder. I guess that can be seen in the fact they avoided dealing with their weight until their average BMI was 52...
ReplyI wondered about the prevalence of mental illness in weight loss surgery patients... because many surgeons require psychological assessment before surgery (which I agree with wholeheartedly) perhaps more of these types of illnesses are being detected that would otherwise not be diagnosed if the person had not sought surgery. Just a thought... I can't seem to turn off my "researcher" hat for potential confounds in any study result I read. It drives my husband crazy!
ReplyDairy diet, could it just be that you eat less when you eat more dairy as you feel fuller?
I know a yogourt can keep me from snacking on bad things.
